I have had a really bad experience with Dr. Baral, the endocrinologist. The last 2 visits, I felt as if she rushed me through my visit without really explainaing anything including upping a medication without telling me why. The worst has been trying to get a Rx filled and having to call numerous times to get it filled and then having to physically go there to see what was done with the pre auth team. This has been since July 2025 and three weeks later, still not being handled properly. The rest of the staff is helpful but Dr. Baral and her team has dropped the ball. read more

Ok. Today I had my first OBGYN appointment with Dr. Stephanie Teng. She was the best Doctor ever!! She was patient, professional, and consistent. This was the best experience that I have ever had with any Physician hands down. Her assistant Jonetta was wonderful as well. With all the PT facilities in this area this is DEFINITELY not the one to go to. It is impossible to reach them for any purpose which is representative of what you find out when you get there: they are incredibly poorly run. read more

I have been to this establishment three times since I changed insurance and had to find a new place for a primary physician. Being that this place is literally a jog from my house, it is super convenient! While I do consider it a downgrade from Kaiser (since I could also do optometry there), it definitely gets the job done. Before my first time, I called ahead to pick a doctor and give them my insurance info. That was relatively easy... when I went in before my appointment, they gave me this super long survey that I was supposed to fill out. It was so long, that I couldn't even finish before it was time to see the doctor. I haven't seen the survey since... oh well. It just seemed like a lot. The doctor I chose is Dr. Porter, and he's really cool! Usually it's a 15-20 minute in the room after the nurse takes my blood pressure and temperature, but I have always waited about that long... sometimes even longer, so it's something I am used to and have just come to accept as normal. The doc takes time to get to know me, check on how I'm doing, and how those I care about are doing. As for the lab work that comes after, I have had blood work done twice. The first time, the needle HURT LIKE HECK! The second time though, I didn't feel it at all, so that's a good sign. Overall, my experiences here have been positive. When I changed insurance recently, they had no issue changing that for me. I am well-aware that I have never come the office during peak hours, and from how small the waiting room is, I can't imagine what that's like. So far so good, though. My health is in the balance, so if there were any serious issues I would definitely speak up about them. read more

Its sad the customer service you get these days but you would think in the field people would be more compassionate. I dialed the doctor's line by mistake and was trying to tell the young lady what I needed and she hung up on me then I called back and another lady answered and yes it was the doctor's line but she allowed me to express my concerns then said I can direct you to the proper line because I have a patient on the phone so I said what is the line and she said for doctor's offices to call in, but you have a patient on other line I am confused just awful. read more

This facility is very nice and updated. The restrooms and patient rooms are very clean and comfortable. The reason for the low rating is the overall experience I've had with MedStar in Mitchellville. Initially I called to make an appointment with a gyn physician since I have recently changed insurances. I called in April and could not be seen until July 14. I had a somewhat urgent issue so they suggested I see an urgent care. However I didn't think my issue was urgent enough to visit one. So I took the first appointment I could get and waited. Finally when July comes around, I was treated pleasantly by everyone from reception to physician to nurses doing blood work. I especially liked the doctor and the reason why I waited so long and picked this location was to specifically see Dr. Tropes-Martin; she was really nice and thorough. She even knew my last gyn Doctor. She told me to sign up for an online portal to receive my results and I should receive something in 7 days. I didn't get any phone calls or online messages until 10 days later. The test results were not easy to read or great results. I called immediately to speak with the Doctor or nurse to discuss my results. The receptionist that answer used kind words but her tone was nasty. She said she would leave a message for the Doctor and someone would call me. She couldn't give me a time frame of when the doctor would call but she said they usually call by the end of the day. I never received a call so I called again the next day and the same woman said all she could do was leave the Doctor another message. No call. This back and forth went on for a week, which is ridiculous! Firstly, no less than great result should be given on an online portal with no call or explanation. Secondly, the patient shouldn't have to call the office for a week to discuss those results. I called again after 5 days and if I was given no remedy I would be calling corporate and managers, whoever I needed to speak to to have my issue resolved. This last time I called I spoke to a more pleasant woman, Cassandra I believe. She explained that the Doctor I waited months to see was leaving the practice and wasn't even taking any appointments. Then she went on to say that all the gyn doctors were out at the hospital so I couldn't speak directly to one of them anyway. She was able to make me an appointment at the Lafayette location to see a nurse practitioner the following week to discuss my results and schedule a necessary follow up procedure. At least she was able to give me some sort of progress. But I shouldn't have had to pay another copay to discuss results from my previous visit! I'm very disgusted and upset with the costumer service I received from that location, especially over the phone. I hope my continued experiences at this new location are better and that this isn't an overall MedStar problem. The doctors in this location are great in person but the people you have to deal with before and after the doctors aren't worth it. I would recommend taking your medical needs else where if possible. read more

Dr. Wm DuBoyce, my primary physician is outstanding, very through and personable. Never in a rush and takes time to answer questions. I have been his patient for 3 years. Also, have seen Dr. Rettig, sports medicine specialist (no longer at this location) for my lower back and knee (arthritis) and her treatment has been effective. Very personable and takes time with you. I have received physical therapy from this location which has been beneficial. Recently saw Dr. Glasser (sports medicine) for arthritis in my hand. Medication prescribed gave me significant pain relief and improved mobility within 3 days. I have experienced the nurses/nurse assistants as friendly and professional. I have absolutely no complaints about the front desk. My husband's primary physician is at the Capitol Hill location but last week saw Dr. Glasser for his arthritic knee. Dr. Glasser's treatment has proven beneficial in the 78 hrs he told my husband he would get relief. The facility is well maintained with ample and free parking. A lab is on site so getting your blood work done under the same roof is very convenient. I highly recommend Medstar Mitchellville. read more

Judging from the other reviews others have figured out the same thing that I've learned, try to find another facility. My problems with Med Star started last fall when I tried to schedule my first appointment with Dr. Porter. I was informed that the first appointment wasn't until 2 months later. I asked if there were another physician that could see me sooner and was told "No" this was the standard wait for a new patient appointment. So, I took the appointment and finally saw Dr. Porter late last year. No major issues although I always felt that I was interrupting him and I've felt the same at each subsequent visit. Skip forward to a couple of weeks ago. I called at 9 in the morning on Wednesday June 12th to the prescription line and left a request for one of heart meds. The recording clearly stated it could take up to 48 hours and that was fine. The following day I called around 1 just to confirm the request was received. The lady indicated that she couldn't even tell me that and to call back the following day when it would be 48 hours. This annoyed me so I never called back but as of today, June 27th CVS says that they have still not received the request. How efficient. Fortunately, my cardiologist's office had filled the prescription in less than 48 hours. Final straw- Today I called to schedule an appointment for a follow up to a visit last Sunday with a Minute Clinic for a viral infection because I'm still feeling badly. Minute Clinic said that they don't do follow ups and said to make an appointment with my primary care. When I called I was told that Dr. Porter was going on vacation and couldn't squeeze me in. I asked how about another doctor and was told everyone was booked up until July. She then suggested I go to the ER. Like Hell. If I go to the ER for something like this there's a good chance that insurance won't pay. They'll say "you should have gone to your primary care." This has happened to me before. Why do we have primary care doctors if this is the kind of care that we receive? I'll try Patient First and in the meantime be on the lookout for a better primary care although I've learned that unless you're one of wealthy your health care is probably going to be substandard and you'll be lucky to spend 5 minutes with your doctor while they interrupt you while you're trying to explain your symptoms. This is the new normal. read more

An hour an a half after waiting to see Dr. Saunders, (because I had developed a really bad cold) I was informed by the office manager, that they 1) Do not take walk in patients, and 2) do not do same-day-scheduling of appointments. (This blanket policy is regardless if you have seen the doctor previously at that location.) Dr. Saunders recommended I go to an urgent care clinic if I was sick.... So what is the point of having a GP? I wish the practice disclosed these policies before I started seeing Dr. Saunders, because I would have chosen another doctor a long time ago! read more

Dr. Hoffman is awesome! She is competent, thorough and pleasant. I'd love to give 5 stars for Dr. Hoffman but I can only give three stars because the service provided by the waiting room staff is absolutely abysmal. If I was rating the waiting room staff, they'd get a zero (won't answer the phones, if they answer you are on hold or they hang up, they don't respond to faxed requests for records or email requests for copies of referrals). I hate that Dr. Hoffman's stellar care is tainted by the non-existent service of the staff. read more

Customer service is under par. Phones don't turn on on time so patient's are faulted when they're unable to get in touch with the office to inform them of any delays. This must be a commonality because the phone policy is the first item outline in the office policies as well as busy call volume on Monday morning....which I cant speak to because the phones were still OFF as if the office was closed. I was late for my appointment due to a traffic backup from a car accident. I was unable to get in touch with the office to discuss whether I should still come in or reschedule and their policy. The phones were off as if the office was closed NOT BUSY. When I finally arrive the disdain and lack of empathy (for why i might need to be seen) that I was greeted with was disgusting. After explaining my reason for being late, the reason for my appointment, as well as the phones being off, the disgruntled front desk associate who listened but never made eye contact and behaved as if she were irritated, informed me of the office's policy. I would be rescheduled for tomorrow. My doctor's nurse, also came forward with an attitude and in attempt to be discreet but with the nastiest attitude told the front desk associate "Well she should've been on time..." referring to me. I was shocked. I understand there's a policy for every office and a tight schedule must be kept to ensure proper operations. I expected to possibly have not been able to be seen, however given the reason for my appointment and risk of reinfection in addition to a new complaint, I was hopeful but knew it to be unlikely. My review is not about my not being seen for my appointment that I arrived late to. My review is about the dismissive, agitated, and rude customer service that comes with receiving care from these doctors. Quality of care starts when the patient walks in the door. It start with the patient experience. Please turn the phones on on time and match the quality of care given by the doctors. read more

horrible!! i called here today to get a f.up er appt with dr king asap foe my dad but the staff was rude and acted like they did not know what was going on. i use to work at this establishment for years and im not sure what type of practice is being run with this new staff. mary you have been there since before i left and you was no help at all. angel is the only one who took the time to help me. it took me from 1:05 until 2:13 to try to get to speak to dr king any patient of his that calls twice should be sent dr king right away but mary wanted to send a message again. and for that matter every person i spoke with except for angel. the staff is horrible ! read more
