The nurse practitioner I saw at Medstar Promptcare, Cleopatra, was very nice and efficient and quickly diagnosed my lower back pain. She recommended short term prednistone, which worked in the past, and tramadol for pain. I'm hopeful the prednistone will work but the tramadol did nothing for the pain and actually caused more discomfort -- namely, headache and nausea. I quickly discontinued it and just put up with the pain. I guess because of recent developments, medical personnel are reluctant now to prescribe even a small number of percosets, or some equivalent, because of abuse by some people. Sad that we all have to suffer because of that when tramadol is a questionable drug to say the least and comes with its own set of problems, as it did for me. The wait time here was long on the day I went in with back pain, a problem if you have to park on the street with a two-hour limit. But you can call ahead to try to schedule an appointment if you can wait. All in all, I was satisfied with my visit since my doctor's office was closed at the time I went. read more

RUN AWAY! A hospital set up to make money at your expense by pretending to help. I have been bitten by a dog. I had 4 Urgent Care visits and 1 emergency surgery in Alaska whilst on vacation. The hand infection has not gone away and my local Washington DC area surgeon had me get an MRI over the weekend. Here is the sad story: 1. The main Medstar hospital campus is enormous and has poor signage leading to parking, then you have to get a guide to help you find the MRI dept... 2. They took the MRI after an hour long wait after the apt time and told me I couldn't get a copy on disk for my doctor. I had to fill out a form and told to go through their Imaging Records dept to have the files mailed to me in 7 to 10 business days! My doctor needed them to make a surgery decision! 3. After at least a dozen phone calls, providing the Imaging Request form 4 separate times, and being told over the phone an email has been sent to me with the connection to the files, while I was at my surgeons office. The files NEVER SHOWED UP. 4. Hours later I received an email with a connection to download the files. I'm sure this is the cheapest way to send out files - in 7 to 10 business days! And not simply give the customer a disk at the MRI center. But my surgeon was agast at this practice. RUN AWAY! USE ANOTHER IMAGING SERVICE FOR YOUR MRI OR FOR ANYTHING - RUN AWAY FROM MEDSTAR! read more

Came into the room and took a picture of my finger and said , yes that needs wrapped up, handed me ten bandaids and said I call a prescription in for an antibiotic. medstar doctors are consistently worse in perform than their peers organized in smaller entities and practices. few exceptions for highly specialized doctors but the cardiologists and pulmonologists are far less competent than their non medstar colleagues. It's simple, if you're on such a big ship as they are at Medstar it's not immediately obvious that quite a lot of their doctors aren't very good. If they had their own practice with accountability they'd perish. They have the infrastructure (CTs, MRIs, yada) but not the brains. read more

Med star is a rip off. Make sure you ask how much insurance is covering. I was billed over $700 for x-rays after my insurance covered only half. Never have I paid $700 out of pocket for a doctor to give me x-rays and the. tell me to take physical therapy. read more

We took our son for an in office visit. The office was so crowded they recommended we try virtual-which we did. They incorrectly billed us for an in office visit. We have called several times to correct the mistake. Each time we are promised a follow up phone call which never comes yet they continue to bill us the incorrect amount. read more

Absolutely the worst experiences I have ever had in an attempt to get medical care. Two new appointments with Medstar, one for Otolaryngology and one for Spinal Surgeon resulted in more than six weeks in one case, and 2 months in another to get a first appointment. For the Otolaryngologist, I showed up for my appointment, as per the confirmations I received, and sat in the waiting room while the front desk tried to figure out why my appointment hadn't been "bumped" as she called it. She tapped away at her computer trying to find out who screwed up and then told me I'd have to wait another six weeks for another appointment. In the second case, with the spinal surgeon, I got a rescheduled appointment due to the doctor having "a personal issue" and then today, less than 24 hours before my appointment, I'm told it's getting rescheduled again due to "an emergency". I don't know if this is indifference, incompetence, or extreme inefficiency in the back office, but it's not worth it. read more

I was treated so poorly by Dr. Jazebi's office in Chevy Chase. I had an appt and somehow their system did not recognize it. I received very specific instructions on the location, suite, etc. and the receptionist failed to take responsibility for their mistake and instead made me feel like I never made an appointment because it wasn't in their system. So much for 'Patient First'. More like 'Patient Last'. I am a physician who was a patient, but it shouldn't matter. I feel sorry for people who are too sick to advocate for themselves. I was on my way to an appointment I had to wait OVER 12 MONTHS FOR and my car literally caught fire and I was stranded on the side of the road for 8 hours. I called to let them know my situation and it was too bad so sad, you can't reschedule and you will be charged the full appointment fee for missing your appointment. I just can't with healthcare anymore. If I had died in that fire I'm sure they'd come after my parents for the missed appointment payment. The wife and I needed covid treatment so we did the right thing and did an eVisit with MedStar Telehealth. Online it says $59 and specifically mentions insurance coverage. Afterwards the billing info says $59 billed and insurance paid. Then we get a bill in the mail from MedStar for $500 each. I called to dispute, and they said the $59 was only for individuals, and that insurance charge is $500+, while my insurance only paid the $59. It is bait and switch, flat out. They don't even have an echart EPIC portal where you can login to see your lab, radiology results or email your Dr. or order, refill Rx..LOL. You have to call in Rx, physically go there and give them 7 days notice to get your medical records. Every state I have lived in has a portal. read more

Disaster. Tried to make an appointment online as they request - no follow up, complete fail. Tried to call four times - finally got an appointment on the fourth try. Friday MedStar txt me confirmation of my Monday 8 a.m. appointment. Monday I showed up 5 mins early - no one appeared until 8:15 a.m. The first person said my appointment was cancelled, the second person said I was still in the system, the third person said the doctor is not coming in until 10 a.m. anyway and - get this - offered me a phone number to call to reschedule! Avoid. I came for a very bruised foot that I could not walk on after an injury, plus a cold. I told the nurse I had chest pains in the morning and the doctor ordered an electrocardiograph. I said no thank you and my foot was the bigger issue. I am a very healthy 29 year old woman with a 55bpm resting heart rate, meaning it was extremely unlikely I was having a heart attack or a blood clot that went to my heart. The doctor came in, chastised me for taking a z-pack for my cold, looked at my foot for- not exaggerating- 5 seconds, and told me I had to go to the ER to get blood tests for my chest pains. She said it was "5 minutes away." It took 45 minutes to get there. Obviously the ER is terrible and will not dwell on details. I was there for 2 hours and never even got an x-ray. It's now 5 weeks later and I just paid my bill to medstar - $320 (this does not include the ER bill). I went to my podiatrist a week later because my foot was getting worse, they took an x-ray, told me my metatarsal broke, gave me a boot and crutches, told me not to bear any weight, and to come back in 4 weeks. I was in and out in 30 minutes. That's how a doctors office should work. Thank you to the team at foot and ankle specialists at 2021 k st nw. I did deal with a nightmare scenario with my health insurance (because OF COURSE) - United Health from Deloitte - and the front desk were very nice, but still need to give 1 star. If you MUST go, do NOT let them bully you into or out of tests. read more

MedStar health is the WORST health care organization to go to. I went for a COVID test for my 1st visit. 2 weeks later I came for my second visit to get tested again and doctor Jon W. Gonella attended to me. He said they can't perform another test because I was positive. And so he let me go. Few weeks after that, I get a bill for $205. I called Medstar customer service and someone by the name of John Habakah said he will take care of it. Few weeks later, John calls me and leaves a voice mail explaining that I was charged because I didn't get a covid test. How in the world does that even make sense? I have tried calling John multiple on his work phone and he has been ignoring my call. I have been attempting to obtain a PCP appointment for months through Medstar. Finally was able to schedule, and was initially seen by an NP in Waldorf, MD who stated that he does not take pts on. He referred me to the White Plains, MD office to establish care with Dr. Mazingo, PA. I was able to schedule an appointment 1 week later. At 845am I arrived to my appointment (15 minutes early for check in). At 910am I was informed that Dr. Mazingo only saw pts for emergency visits and does not establish care with ongoing clients. I was then taken to the receptionist to reschedule with a PCP. I was informed that I could be seen at 9:45am (35 minutes later) with a PCP to establish care. At 1030am I was still not seen by a provider, and informed them that I had to return to work. I was told by the office, to reschedule the appointment - after they told me they could see me quickly and scheduled me to be seen the same day and within the hour. I spent almost 2 hours waiting to be seen. No apology. No customer service. As a new patient, this was unacceptable. This office wasted my time and didn't value me as a customer choosing their service/ and care. I would NOT recommend due to horrific customer service. They have NO respect for the time of their patients. They were completely unapologetic and unprofessional. read more

It took me 40 minutes to book an appointment that didn't even happen. When I did book it, the receptionist couldn't even give me her undivided attention. She kept missing my answers to her questions because she was talking to someone else, too. I am on hold again trying to figure out why the Video Medicine link didn't work and what I can do to get care. I am on hold again--8 minutes and counting. In the days when office visits were normal, the waits were long, and the staff was inattentive and tired. I'm guessing everyone is underworked and underpaid. There are very few options for PCPs these days, but I'm going to try to find a place that at least provides some level of care--any level. read more

On 6/1 I contacted the MedStar Medical Group Washington Primary Care office to request a copy of my most recent STD screening/blood work. Staff returned my call to state that they had no record of any bloodwork results on file for me. I found this odd, as I've been a patient of this facility for more than 15 years. I called again on 6/6 after returning to town to determine when I could come in to the lab. At this point very frustrated because the primary location for me to ask questions about my health is telling me they have absolutely no records pertaining to my sexual health. After seeing more than 4 physicians at this practice over the course of my adult life, I was told I've never had STD lab screening/testing. This is not only inaccurate, but negligent. Upon coming into the office to have my blood drawn the staff was condescending and lacked any empathy for my concerns and had very little bedside manner in handling my frustration. I had my blood drawn and the single positive experience was with the lab tech who drew my blood. Ms. Honesty was thoughtful and demonstrated a true sense of care and emotional support. To add insult to injury, no one from the office has contacted me or followed up. I am utterly disgusted by the sheer carelessness of the staff AND Dr. Geloo. The emotional impact and trauma of this office's lack of professionalism and accountability is overwhelmingly disappointing. As a longstanding patient I've watched the quality of care diminish over time and will definitely seeking services elsewhere and encouraging my parents who are also patients of this practice to do the same. Went in for Covid testing. I tested positive and they handed me 3 pieces of paper with basic guidelines and sent me on my way. No real advice no conversation. Tried to sign up for the patient portal. Thought I had but there is an evisit app, there is the portal, my medstar. I had figured that if i signed up for one I was signed up for the whole thing, but no. What an enormous pain in the butt. They told me that 10 days since the beginning of my symptoms and 3 days of symptom free I should be ok. Tried to get retested to be on the safe side and they laughed in my face at the Medstar at Bradlee in Alexandria. Lots of eye rolls. Then the woman at the desk tell me I will just test positive again. How could she know this? How am I supposed to return to work? It was such an enormous waste of my time Did an e-visit with a nice doc online and she politely explained that Medstar does not do retesting. But, yes, following cdc guidelines I should be retested. Had I known they would not retest and that Id have to jump through all these stupid hoops only to be tole to go someplace else, I would have started out at someplace else. read more

Just got a bill in the mail allegedly for medial services rendered at that time that 1) I never had and 2) never got a bill for before and are not recorded in my chart. My husband and I recently moved to the D.C area from New Jersey and fully believed in the capabilities of a large hospital chain. However, after happily finding out I was pregnant I thought Medstar would be one of my best options as far as a Doctor and care. I have no complaints about Dr. Seethappan and her care. She remained very professional and was always so kind. Sadly it's the staff of the hospital and OB/GYN Office. For a first time mom I will admit I needed my hand held through a lot such as unfamiliar pains and questions that came up. When having some sharp pains I could not get through to a single person and their office. I was then connected with the Medstar patient portal operator and she stayed on the line with me until we could reach someone. It took 25 minutes to finally find someone. This was even after giving the ONE CALL Doctor a ring several times just to reach her voicemail box. All this to find out the particular office I was connected with in Silver Spring was not associated with Medstar. After this instance I could no longer trust the staff for the care I needed in case of an emergency. When voicing this concern when I was closing out my patient file, a male Doctor asked me to elaborate on how I couldn't get through to an office. I truly found that offensive. There was nothing elaborate on aside from I couldn't get through to anyone. That in itself is not okay for a hospital or Doctor's office during operating hours. Going forward and finding a new OB/GYN while past 20 weeks pregnant was not a simple task and the office was not responsive on helping me fax my patient records out. All-in-all I would never trust their care again. You get spoken to unacceptably by the staff just by asking simple requests like "Can you transfer my call". I will personally never go back and I would never recommend their care. read more

I went in well not doing so good. they told me in the morning that i was too unstable to shave, then found out my insurence had lapsed, and before noon i drove out being discharged. I ask mysaelf if this this a place that has my well being in mind, and after today, just go to a place that has your wellbeing in mind. I tried to get in with any medstar dr. and the best is weeks away, Just ask your self if help was offered, in my case, no so explore your options before recieving the same treatment as me. read more

I have been a patient of this practice for more than twenty years. I have generally been satisfied with quality of the health care. The practice was acquired by MedStar, causing changes often evident by a corporate purchase. The quality of customer service has greatly declined. The practice is greatly understaffed. I regularly hold on the phone to speak with someone for 10 minutes or more. When coming to check in for appointments, I often have to wait in line for 10 or more minutes. Since I have trouble standing, this is a problem. Sometimes there are people behind the desk, while people are in line. They do not assist the people waiting, as if it is "not their job." This poor service is very disappointing and could easily be addressed by a few efficiencies and additional staff. read more

It is really sad that it has come to this. I had been Dr. Zamskaya's patient for four years. I have nothing but high regard for her and her ability to care for her patients. I found her to be attentive and honest. She was not a drug pusher. Now getting an appointment to see her? Well, that is another matter altogether! I have been trying to schedule a routine appointment with my doctor since June. I had gotten one excuse after after the other as to why I would need to call back a month later to schedule, only to be told once I made said call back, that they still could not schedule appointments for her. Blah, blah, blah. Which brings me to this month. I gave up on seeing my regular doctor and asked to see anyone who would be available. I was scheduled with Dr. Banks. Two days before the appointment, (that would be today) I get a call to say he has left the practice!!! They can schedule me with yet another doctor but not until November. Seriously???!!!! By the way, where is Dr. Zamskaya? I know. Many of you are wondering why I didn't move on sooner. My only defense is I really liked Dr. Z (although I wasn't going to see her) and I am a creature of habit who likes the familiar. As I said before, I had been with this practice for four years without incident. I do not know if they are under new management, but it is plain awful now. The phone rings and rings. You simply must be diligent and only after several hours might you get lucky enough to get an actual human on the phone. This is not how it used to be and certainly not how it should be. I hope they get their act together, although I won't be around to see it. Let's see how expeditiously they will provide my medical records. I hope it won't be months and months of endless excuses. Do yourself a favor and bypass this practice. It has gone to the dogs. read more

This review is in line with many of the others here...Dr. Zamskaya seemed like a decent doctor when I first saw her in my search for a primary care here in DC. I had her as my primary care for about 2 years, and that's about how many times I have been able to get in to see her....TWICE. She and the entire Medstar group is total crap, a scam and should be shut down as far as I'm concerned. As someone who is asthmatic and takes a number of prescription drugs daily, it blew my mind that unless you scheduled about a month out, there was no way to get into see your doc. Anytime I got sick and tried to get in their answer was to go to their urgent care. That is a total scam, it allows Medstar to make extra money off each patient since urgent care is billed at a higher rate than an office visit. Equally as infuriating....she refused to fill my birth control while I found a new OB GYN (I was new to town), and then stopped offering services for anyone with ADD or ADHD with only two months warning. This tells you that they do not care at all about their patients well being. Here is what has really enraged me about this place and why I'm leaving a review urging everyone - DO NOT GO HERE! I have been trying to get my health records so I can get a new primary care doctor for over 8 months!!!! I require a primary care physician that I can actually see, and a front desk that can actually manage to get my refills right without taking hours of my time each month. I was on the hunt for a new doc, which became rushed when she suddenly stopped offering services to anyone with ADD/ADHD who needs medication. About 6 months later, I still cannot get access to my medical records. Multiple phone calls from both me and my new doc, calls to the main 'medstar' office, since apparently the doctors here do not manage your records themselves...and all I can get is what Medstar offers to you online which isn't enough to get my perscriptions from my new doc Because Dr. Zamskaya and her office are completely inept at even the most basic level of patient service I now need to go through diagnosis testing all over again to get medication that I have been on for over 9 years. Medstar Health is a joke. To call them the Walmart of heathcare would be an insult to Walmart. They are DANGEROUS for anyone who actually requires medication, and completely neglectful of their patients. I will be looking into how to file a formal complaint against them and urge everyone to avoid Medstar like the plague. read more
