I have been a patient for at least 15 years and I absolutely love this practice. Dr. Cohen and Annisse are wonderful to work with and have helped to keep my migraines under control. My husband and I scheduled neurology appointments with Dr. Neal M. Kurzrok a doctor with the Neurology Center. We traveled from Bethesda to MedStar Washington Hospital Center expecting to receive the care we had arranged. Instead, I was told that I no longer had an appointment because I had supposedly been "dismissed from the practice" due to an alleged incident in 2016, ten years before my scheduled appointment. I had never been notified of this alleged dismissal. No one could tell me what the incident was, who made the decision, why it was made, or provide any documentation or explanation. I learned of my supposed dismissal only after arriving for my appointment. If a medical practice decides to dismiss a patient, there are generally accepted practices intended to ensure the patient is informed and has an opportunity to obtain care elsewhere. Based on my experience, those standards were not followed. The situation became even more troubling when my husband, who had his own valid appointment, respectfully questioned what had happened. Shortly afterward, Dr. Kurzrok personally informed him that he also would not be seen. As a result, neither of us received the care we had scheduled and still urgently need. This experience was not simply about a canceled appointment. It was about a complete lack of transparency, accountability, and respect for patients. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Dr. Kurzrok, The Neurology Center, or MedStar Health. Patients deserve honest communication, fair treatment, and continuity of care, not unexplained denials of care after traveling to a scheduled appointment. read more

The physicians seem knowledgeable. Unfortunately, poor office management undermines both the efficiency and effectiveness of care. A minor but needless frustration: callers are told that appointments can be scheduled online. This is not actually possible, as one discovers only after wasting about 20 minutes trying. More seriously, during my sleep study, the technician insisted on waking me at 5:00 a.m. because he wanted to go home. This rule requires patients to fall asleep before midnight if both portions of the study--with and without CPAP--are to be completed. According to the records, I fell asleep at 11:58 p.m., yet the full study was still not completed. I must therefore undergo the study again. Whether I will be charged for this second attempt remains to be seen. In any case, because of long wait times, my diagnosis and treatment have been delayed by multiple months. read more

I've tried TNC twice for 2 different issues; both were terrible. First time was pre-pandemic for vertigo. The doctor I saw told me to drop all medications I was on cold-turkey (including ones I was specifically told not to just stop); refused to listen when I tried to explain why I was on them; told me if I wasn't going to follow all of his instructions I should find someone else to work with; and then, when I got upset, told me "don't be upset, I'm really a nice guy." The thing about finding someone else...once you're assigned a doctor in their system, they don't let you change for any reason. Even if the doc tells you to "not waste his time." Second time was in April for balance and numbness. Dr. Jeffries, my neurologist, requested an MRI...but his office doesn't submit paperwork to insurance; they leave that to the MRI company. It took a month to get pre-approval for my MRI, and my insurance told me that it would have gone faster if they had received anything from the Neurology Center. But when I called and told them this, admin brushed me off. When my results finally came in, Dr. Jeffries wrote a note in my file referring me to a neurosurgeon for a worrying mass. No calls, no notifications, NO CONTACT FROM THE DOCTOR OR THE OFFICE. Just a note that I happen to see. It turns out I needed urgent surgery, and they were planning to tell me at the follow-up scheduled for late-July. Unprofessional. Unhelpful. Save yourself the headache and stay clear of The Neurology Center. read more

I have recently become a patient of Dr. Herzfeld. She is extremely knowledgeable and thorough. The staff is all friendly and will do the best to accomodate scheduling needs although things can get booked out in advance. The sleep study lab in Bethesda was great too. They do charge an annual fee but for the quality of care it is well worth it. read more

Dealt with an insanely rude receptionist today, who refused to listen, when I was trying to explain the situation and what I had heard from the attending doctor during a telemedicine appointment, and, after having spoken to multiple receptionists, only one of whom, was genuinely attentive and receptive, I can say that they are very poorly staffed. read more

December 2025: I had a very negative experience with the Neurology Center. They care more about profits than patients. I will never go back there again. My story starts with an appointment with Dr Pamela Howard. First it takes months to get an appointment to see her. I saw her in July. She recommended a home sleep study. It takes months to get an appointment for a home sleep study. When the date came (in December), I did my home sleep study and returned the equipment to the Neurology Center. I was told that the results will be posted on the patient portal about a week after the study. About 10 days after the study, I received a bill. But I did not see any report, nothing summarizing the result of the sleep study. I waited a few days, until 2 weeks after the study, and I still saw nothing on my patient portal. I called to inquire. This is when my negative experience started. I was told I need to see someone before they will release the results. NO one told me this before. And Dr Howard's first available appointment is in March. I said this is unacceptable. I refuse to pay the bill until I receive a report summarizing the results. Then I was reminded - when I arrived at the office, they required me to give a credit card they kept on file. So the Neurology Center will bill my credit card whether I liked it or not. I did not have the option of not paying. This made me quite angry. How can they bill me when I have not yet received the result of the study! The person I spoke with said there is a physician's assistant who has a spot tomorrow and I could speak with her via telehealth. I said fine. Next day morning, I looked at the email from the Neurology Center. There was a link to a website with paperwork I had to fill out before my telehealth session. There were maybe 10 screens of info to fill out. On the very LAST screen it said I had to be physically located in DC or Maryland in order to do telehealth with this person. No one warned me about this. I live in Virginia. The person who suggested the appointment should have warned me. She should have noticed that my address is in Virginia. I called to double check - is this information correct. Do I have to be in DC or Maryland? I was put on hold for 15 minutes. So I hung up and called again. And I was told, "Yes you have to be in DC or Maryland." Fortunately I live close enough to DC and I found this out early enough I could actually go into the office. But this only added to my negative patient experience. When I saw the physician's assistant, Annise Claude, she told me the result of my sleep study is, there is nothing bad enough to warrant a CPAP machine. Now why couldn't they tell me that via a simple email or report via the patient portal. I had to go into the office, spend 3 hours of my time to go there and come back, to hear the news they could not really find anything bad. And of course this gives the Neurology Center another chance to bill because this visit is not included in the fee for the home sleep study. In summary, I believe this office is more focused on profits than patients. This is not a good place for patients. read more

Insanely long wait times that you absolutely don't need to endure -- go to another sleep center, it'll be much shorter. Idiot sleep techs who don't know the difference between a RERA and a hypopnea. Absolutely moronic doctors who don't even know what upper airway resistance syndrome is. Physician assistants who don't think RDI even matters for diagnosing sleep issues. The only good thing I can say is that these issues are pretty endemic among sleep centers nationwide. They're just staffed by people fundamentally uninterested in reading any new literature on sleep disorders. So long as they keep the insurance money rolling through from sleep studies, they'll never care. It's not in their pecuniary interest to do so! Find a real sleep doctor. I have been going here for year. I love Dr. Herzfeld. But I called to schedule an appointment with a doctor that specializes in neuropathy. I was told that I could not schedule with another doctor because they don't see each other's patients. This is ridiculous because in order to see Dr. Herfeld you have to pay an annual $100 administrative fee to schedule an appointment. The scheduler was totally apathetic. So, I will now have to find another doctor. read more

I visited this group practice earlier in the year. I did not feel that the dr I saw was a good fit and several months after the initial appt wanted to see a different doctor in the practice who I had met subsequent to my first appt and really liked. When I called to schedule an appointment I was told that you cannot switch doctors. I explained that I felt more comfortable with Dr Cohen but they said no. It's against their policy and I guess they would prefer that their patients feel compelled to stick to one doctor regardless how the patient feels. The agent who took the call was apathetic to the situation. Now I need to look for a new neurologist at a different practice. Fortunately it's DC and there are plenty of good doctors. I'm very disappointed in The Neurology Center. The K St location front desk staff are very rude and argumentative. They have no respect for patients in my opinion, and these are very sick patients. My spouse had been scheduled for neuropsychiatric testing some months ago. We cancelled the appointment but they have no record of us cancelling and have charged us a $250 no show fee. My spouse has Parkinson's disease and needs to be seen by the doc but they will not schedule him until the fee is paid. Nevermind that he had just had an aortic valve replacement in November and was on the waiting list for liver transplant in January when this appointment was previously scheduled. The stress from heart issues, a new diagnosis of Parkinson's and a new diagnosis of liver cancer and the agonizing wait for a new liver--well, with all that on your plate it's not a very good time for a several hour long neuropsych test. Really disappointed. The physician we saw was great. No problem with her whatsoever. We fired The Neurology Center. Not nice and not ethical to hold a Parkinson's patient hostage over a late fee. Also, please note, they do not allow you to change physicians within the practice so if you get a bad apple you are stuck with them. Don't go to Dr. Pulaski if 1. You have to bring your child with you to an appointment and 2. You want a Doctor who is patient. He does not like children, so if you visit make sure you have a sitter. Even though, my child was pretty mild mannered during my visit, he was clearly uncomfortable and irritated that I had brought my 4 mth old to the appointment. Didn't know kids were against the rules, this was not mentioned when I made my appointment. He basically shooed me out the door once my appointment was over. I left feeling like I had not received full service. *@AnneB., CEO: If this the policy, then it should be explicitly stated during appointment confirmations. Dr. Philip Pulaski is an excellent doctor: highly experienced, thorough and reassuring. I've had an initial visit with Dr. Pulaski and had the tests that he recommended. Dr. Pulaski's physician's assistant has reviewed my test results with me and did an excellent job. I rate both of these professionals at 5 stars. *Sadly, the administrative management of the Neurology Center is extremely disappointing. I regret that I must rate it as 1 star.* Demeanor of Some (not all) Front Desk and Most Reservations Staff: Uncaring/Indifferent, sometimes with a vindictive or rude edge. In my experience, the front desk experience has been worse at the K Street DC and Chevy Chase offices. The Rockville location (the location of the testing center) had a more pleasant front desk when I visited. As reported elsewhere on this thread, it was difficult and frustrating to schedule a follow-up appointment to review my test results. Scheduling Problems: 1. Phones ring without being answered. 2. After call was picked up: lengthy wait on hold prior to start of call; also placed on hold twice during call. 3. Three month wait to discuss test results with Dr. Pulaski; no other physicians at practice available to discuss my test results during a 3 month timeframe. If the requirement that the patient speak only to one doctor is the Neurology Center's policy to assure continuity of care (are exceptions are made for emergencies?), this should be graciously explained. The explanation that I received: "Your doctor is very busy. No other doctors are available." 4. Able to discuss my results with the physician's assistant with a one month wait, BUT: a 10 days earlier appointment that I had accepted with a reservations staff member during my call could not be booked because it was taken by someone else when the Neurology Center placed me on hold. Neurology Center: "This is a very busy practice and appointments are constantly being booked by others." All told, the administrative difficulties in dealing with this practice undercut the fine clinical care and leave a bad taste. Would I refer a friend to this practice? I have been a patient for years, I loved Dr. Savani. He left and when I called to make an appointment I was told by the scheduling supervisor that I am now considered a new patient (you are by medical standards considered new if it has been more than 3 years, which it has not been). I was told that the PA would not see me if it had been over 18 months (again, this is arbitrary as I had seen her before). I was asked overly personal questions by the scheduler, and they still would not accommodate me despite calling multiple months in advance. I will be seeking care elsewhere. read more

If your meds aren't working, she will tweak them until they are right and you feel better. Eventhough we had to be Virtual Zoom for COVID, it was just like being there with her. Do not trust Dr Herzfeld. My first appointment had a Slight mishap that I overlooked. Someone was early for their appointment and they allowed them to skip me even though I was on time for my appointment so I had to wait in a lobby an additional 45 minutes. While the actual appointment was less than 15 minutes. The doctor was rushed and rude. I had the impression she wasn't listening nor did she care. My second appointment confirmed my suspicions. The appointment was virtual without any input from me despite me not having access to internet. Above, She prescribed me medication for symptoms I didn't have and when I tried to speak about the mistake I was pressured to stay with the medication. I had multiple reactions from medication which listed consult the doctor immediately. Of course Herzfeld was not available. So I reached out to a different neurologist who prescribe me a different medication. Dr. Herzfeld then spent 10 minutes of my appointment telling me how it will confuse me to have second opinions. I try to explain that she wasn't available and there's a three-month-hold just to get in touch with her. Upset she said I'm not a good fit because I shouldn't be seeing multiple neurologist. Anytime I need to speak with a doctor at the neurology center or need an update to my prescription I am told to do it online. And calling by phone isn't allowed. Including the time I ran out of meds...running out is problematic and causes serious effects. I had a list of questions prepared to ask her that I have been googling. And she gave me the runaround on each question calling me incompetent, telling me that I am confused, saying I'm one of those people, saying you people. Absolutely terrible bedside manner. The worse part of my interaction is when I asked for an accommodation letter. This is my first time having a disability and every place (school, work, metro, SSA) mentions the need to have a letter from the doctor. I did some googling and I'm unsure about what needs to be included. So I asked Dr. Herzfeld for suggestions on what types of accommodations I need based on my condition. Her response was to Google it, write the letter myself and then she would simply sign it. I try to explain that I needed expert opinion and actual medical advice. she said that she doesn't have time to help me with that. She couldn't answer or explain a single concept but instead was quick to refer me to someone else. She didn't help or answer anything. The entire 20 minute appointment was a complete waste of time. Only go if you can't find any other place. I want a refund. I hate being black. I can google for free. read more

Hey Neurology Center -- I am writing on Yelp because that is the only way I may be able to contact your practice. I have an appointment today, but you changed your portal, and I can't get in. The system tells me to call the office. I was on hold for over half an hour without talking to anyone and the system hung up on me. (I went from 25 in queue to 20.). Then I called back twice and the system auto hung up on me. Then I got back on the queue at 28. I don't have hours and hours to deal with this. I already missed one appointment because your system has an issue and I can't reach your office in any way shape or form. This is Soviet health care. You should be ashamed. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Hari- Hall for at least 7 years now, to manage my migraines and I couldn't be happier. I use the K street location and have always had great interactions with the staff. I greatly appreciate her holistic approach and the fact that she takes the time to actually understand what's going on in my life and its possible impacts to my health. For years I saw doctors who just wrote a RX and sent me on my way, treating my symptoms but not managing it in any way. I want to start by saying, I have been a patient of Dr. Herzfeld's for migraines years and I absolutely adore her and would rate her medical care 5 stars. She listens to what I am saying and talks through options for treatment and follow up reading material I can look at. She is pragmatic in her assessments and I love that. I also want to give kudos to the new office space, while hard to find (for some reason google maps sends you in the wrong direction) but it is clean and bright. The 3 stars is for the overall medical practice experience. Booking an appointment here is painful. You have to call the main line and get put on hold for 20-30 mines, every time. The doctors are also so jam packed that getting an appointment is challenging and the staff can be really condescending about it. I get that this is an issue industry-wide but it doesn't have to be. I book a yearly appointment months out, but if there is any need to change (well in advance) it is really frustrating. I've also had less than stellar experiences every time I call and with the office staff in general (although the front receptionist at my most recent appointment at the K street location was lovely). There are inefficiencies and frustrations that would make me nervous in an emergency situation. My patient portal took months of follow ups to get up and running, and all because they spelled my name wrong but no one took an extra second to identify the issue. These aren't reasons to leave a practice, but I would recommend investing in some customer service training of the office staff, primarily those booking appointments. You feel like a # and not a person when you call. read more

I have done twice MRI and three times EMG with other doctors, Dr. Pulaski wants his own MRI with his friend Dr in Bethesda MD and EMG at his clinic. He said to me" you went to many doctors before, what you want me to do" I have pain for few years in my hip and barley can walk and I was crying from this pain when he saw me at the clinic. The result from MRI and EMG was similar to the previous and he didn't know what cause this pain because no findings. He charged me $355 for EMG with my insurance. His team confirmed it want be high Amount. Yes right!!!! It's all about the money. I went somewhere else and the doctor told me that I have sciatica without showing him the reports. This is supposed to be Dr. Pulaski specialty. He couldn't figure out what is wrong with me after charging me and the insurance and fail to diagnose. On top of that he send the bill to collections with adding collection fees to hurt my credit. I don't recommend this doctor to anyone. read more

I logged into the site, waited for about ten minutes and then called their main line to see if I could find out what was happening. I waited both online and on the phone until 3:45 when someone finally answered the phone. Apparently Einbinder left for the day. These people are arrogant jerks. If they can't respect your time, how are they going to respect your health. Don't waste your time even making an appointment. read more

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR. DO NOT GO HERE. For 8 years, I thought they were great, but I was wrong. This is the worst place in the region. I saw Dr. Pulaski for 8 years, suffering with chronic migraine the whole time, yet he took 7 years to prescribe botox therapy. Wow. Then, the physician's assistants who did the injections did them in the wrong spots, causing a deep crease across my forehead. I had to pay a plastic surgeon to correct the PA mistakes. This error is malpractice. I paid for the botox in advance and I had to consent for the pharmacy to deliver it to the office. Dr. Pulaski told me the medication technically was mine, so I could take the remaining 50 units to my plastic surgeon to treat muscle spasm at my jawline, saving me $600 every 12 weeks. Yes! PA Williams Nairn agreed but then she accidentally threw the $600 remainder away. When I complained, PA Williams Nairn blamed me for her mistake. No integrity. Loser move. This was my property. Legally she was obligated to safely transfer it to me. When I complained, the CEO was a RUDE NASTY WITCH. I was so angry after her attitude and dumb things she said, I was ready to file in small claims court. Dr. Pulaski said if I did, they would discharge me. He encouraged me to get over it so I could keep treating there. Cheap jerk. But, he saved my life once, so I agreed. Within a week, a $105 mystery charge appeared on my bill. No one could explain it. I kept asking. The practice has no way to dispute a specific charge on a particular day. You pay it or leave. I refused to see PA Williams Nairn but I opted to get botox at a different office. I paid $215 in advance for botox. My injection copy is $150. I took leave and drove 45 minutes, but staff refused to let me treat unless I paid a disputed charge that they could not see on a chronological bill. I did not have paper bills with me. We did not schedule a business meeting. I offered to take them to my next visit in 3 weeks to get it resolved BUT staff refused. If I did not pay the disputed charge they could not see, I could not treat that day, even though I had prepaid for my medication and it was there to be administered. Their way or the highway, NOW, no exception. I felt they were playing with me. This felt like bait and switch. Blackmail. They could smugly demand anything because the doctor knows I am in pain, giving the practice leverage because I need pain relief, meaning I will do what they say. NO. I felt they were obligated to explain the small disputed charge before I paid it. I felt that they must provide the specialty care as scheduled per the protocol because I prepaid for the medicine and they consented to delivery. BUT PA Holt did not intervene. I think this is patient abandonment. Staff held me at the desk for 35 minutes and made me discuss my private information in front of the waiting room. HIPPA! After 30 minutes, they called the business office who put me on hold; in 5 minutes, I started shaking so I dropped the phone and left. I called my health coach who said to go back and get the botox while I was nearby because it is expensive, I paid for it, and I should make sure I got it because this whole event was completely crazy, in his professional opinion. When I went back, they nastily refused to give me the vial. I had to threaten to call the police to FORCE them to do as I asked. Dr Pulaski cited the incident and discharged me from the practice. Weasel move. They can discharge patients, but not like that. Doctors have legal obligations to patients. From the bizarre way I was treated, the event seemed planned to cause the discharge. So unnecessary. As implemented, this was patient abandonment. I angered the pompous CEO. I didn't pretend she made legal sense. She said and did stupid things. The business operations has no regard for legal obligations of medical providers to the patients they serve. If you complain when they make a mistake that will cost them a little money to resolve, they will abuse you in public and then give you the boot with no regard to your health or continuing care. I have been getting atypical migraine headaches since mid June and was finally referred to this center by my primary care physician after my situation was elevated. The doctor's office is centrally located in the DC area and physicians are very thorough in their evaluations. Unfortunately, symptoms have been getting much more severe with head swelling, bloody noses, memory loss and insomnia.
