Made an appointment for a healthy yearly visit for Medicare. I was informed by their office that this is a Medicare requirement. Paperwork was texted to me before the visit minimizing the time spent before seeing my doctor. The office staff is efficient and friendly. I waited less than 10 minutes to be taken to the exam room by the Nurse. She updated my records, answered any questions I had and before I knew it my Doctor arrived. Dr. Louderback-Smith examined me, checked my records and eagerly answered my questions. She is very knowledgeable, caring and patient. If I need to get in touch with her I can use the Portal and email her and by the end of the day she responds. Heck I ran into her at the grocery store, she recognized me and let me ask her a quick question. Everyone there treats you like family. So glad I am a patient of Dr. Louderback-Smith's. "Care" like this should be criminal. Where do I start? 1) Dr. Lola at Silver Spring Gastroenterology likes to charge $330 for a 10-minute Zoom appt (one I was forced to have as a "pre-op consult" with info that could have easily been emailed). When I questioned this, because it had to be a mistake, and then tried to get this brought down to something reasonable, I was denied. Disgusting. 2) She also likes to ask, "Well, what do you think we should do?" I'm not the doctor! Why am I paying YOU? She does not read the chart beforehand (neither does the office, as they triage you and take your vitals and then ten minutes in, ask, "What's your name again?") I came for you to fix me, not for you to ask my opinion on what kind of care path I want to take. I want the one that frickin' fixes me. 3) After spending thousands of dollars, at my post-op follow up, it was suggested I take a $7 supplement to fix my issue. After over a year of visits and thousands of dollars. I would have laughed if I didn't want to cry. Why was this not suggested first?? 4) But never fear- she prescribed something, too. Imagine my surprise when my pharmacy called me and asked when I got on high-cholesterol medication....because that ISN'T what I have. She sent in medication for a condition I did not have. 5) The office quoted me a $0 estimate for my procedure. I currently received my third different bill for a total of $2000 for that very procedure. Again, would laugh if I didn't spend so much time crying. This entire company, system, and country is broken. When I see a b.s. MedStar commercial or magazine cover purporting that their mission is to help people, I want to set things on fire. Corrupt. Uncaring. Unethical. THIS is MedStar. Stay away. I know at this point I will take my chances with my health, because I simply cannot afford to spend this much money on crap care. read more

Not the same since the practice changed. Front desk staff can be quite rude. Doctors hardly spend any time with you and come off as uncaring. It's definitely just about the money now not the patients. It's really very sad. Go to an urgent care center. You'll be treated better. read more

Since joining medstar, this is not the quality care place it used to be. If I miss an appointment, I'm supposed to pay a fee, but they can apparently reschedule your appointment without letting you know. read more

This doctors office has consistently been the worst doctors experiences I have had. The staff is snarky and the doctors black mail you to come in to get regular prescriptions filled. I feel as though when I walk through the door all they see is dollar signs. I can't believe it took me this long to switch physicians. Good bye! read more

I have had to switch doctors a couple times within the office due to being misdiagnosed and brushed off. I called my pharmacy to refill my prescription that I have 2+ refills of, and the pharmacy said they are out of capsules but have the medicine in tablets. All they need is for the doctor to call in and give them a verbal "Ok" so that I can pick up my prescription, I have been calling the answering service all day, from this morning until this evening, and the on call doctor does not seem to have the time to call in to the number for my pharmacy which I even provided for the answering service. We made sure they were aware that I am Out of my medication, and the woman at the answering service was absolutely rude, uncaring, and acted as though we were Bothering Her, If you don't like your job find another. I think I am going to be looking for another primary care doctor. read more

This office has gone to Hell in a handbasket since being taken over by Medstar.Appointments are never on time,I'm constantly being overbilled!My last visit cost me $314.00 for a follow-up visit that was less than 10 minutes.Time to find a new Doctor! read more

After 10 plus years it's time to move on! I knew once Med Star moved in the practice would quickly go downhill. Difficult to get an appointment less than a month out, when you do they always run late, can't get a call back even after several days. Support staff overworked and under appreciated. I've been a patient here for 15+ years and it pains me to write this review. Recently, I asked for a medication....this call was at 9am on a Friday for a extremely necessary mediation for an "outbreak." I didn't receive a call back until the following Monday morning (3.5 full days later) with someone saying the medication was not on my record and I had to come in for an appointment in order to get the med. First of all, this medication IS on my record. Secondly. How dare no one try to call it in OR then call me to say why it wasn't going to be called in. THAT DAY!!!! I'm appalled at this practice. I loved my doctor! I can't trust them at all! I have full-blown outbreak (simplex) because they didn't give me my meds OR bother call with a reason why I couldn't get them. I'm pursuing with the BBB l. Healthcare is SO extremely important these days and this practice doesn't take it seriously AT ALL. I trusted you. read more

My wife and I have being seeing Dr. Steve Smaldore for over 15 years. I can't possibly speak highly enough of him and his care for us. He's a throwback to the old school doctors that would take their time with you and make sure things are done correctly. You won't find any better doctor in Maryland. read more

Since Dr Steve and Dr Kelly changed their practice I find it very difficult to get an appointment. I had an auto accident and was told by the doctor in the ER to follow up with my GP in 3-4 days. I was told I could not get an appointment for 3 weeks! I eventually had to report to ExpressCare where they took more X-Rays. Again I was told to follow up with my GP! I had been using Smaldore since 1990! Now I have to look for a more responsive doctors office. It's sad that the Smaldore's practice has gone so far downhill. read more

I choose this practice many years ago because you could always access some care when needed. In all those years I only saw a Physician twice. Once the first year (he left the practice the next year) and once last year. Now you can't even raise a live person on the phone, they've cut back their office hours so I can't see them after work and they won't do anything to fit in a simple 1/2hr exam. I have been going here for 20 plus years and used to love it. Dr. Steve is kind, listens and just a good guy. They are now part of Med Star and if I was Dr. Steve and Dr. Kelly I would insist that they stop using their name. I know they have a contract but Steve and Kelly earned great reputations and now their name is attached to a medical mill. The current service is HORRIBLE. I tried to stay and put up with stuff but they have crossed a line. They had to switch my medicine and Dr. I told me to call if certain things happened - they happened! I called at 9:00 am and the person taking my message hadn't even heard of the various medicines I'm on - all three medicines are very popular. She read my message back to me and it was nowhere close to what I said. This happened three times. They called me at 3:00 pm and told me they were too busy and that I should go to a doc-in-the-box. I nicely stated my case that I have been going there for 20 plus years and I expect better service. I told her I could be there in 30 minutes - she checked with the Doctor and said he couldn't wait that long. I told the nurse I would wait to Monday and she told me not to do that. My condition was VERY serious and I need medical care. After twenty years this is the level of service I got?! Except for my Doctor and one nurse - I do not recognize anyone there since Med Star. My understanding is that regardless of how much service they had they were busted back to a new employee - all their earned vacation - everything. The morale is horrible and the service and professionalism is worse. I loved this practice when Steve and Kelly had direct oversight. Please Steve and Kelly, they must stop using your name!
