Plastic Surgery Saved My Life!…read more I did a crazy amount of research and read so many reviews before choosing Dr. Gary Lawton (aka The Perfectionist), and man, let me tell you how right I was. I literally drive from Austin to San Antonio to see him and have zero regrets, because he actually saved my life! I went in for your typical "mommy makeover"--a tummy tuck, breast lift, and reduction. My friends continually questioned why I wanted the reduction since I wasn't even that large to begin with. Even Dr. Lawton said I'd look great with just a lift. But I insisted on wanting to be smaller (a B cup is all I need!), and he immediately said okay. He didn't look at my partner for their opinion; he focused completely on what I wanted. Best decision of my life! On operation day, he checked in one last time while marking me up. I told him, "I want them cute, perky, and to never need a bra again." That is EXACTLY what I got, plus something extra. The pathology report from the removed tissue came back showing pre-cancerous cells. If we hadn't done the reduction, we never would have found it, and I would have most certainly developed breast cancer. If Dr. Lawton hadn't truly listened to my desires, I would have never known. When he had to break the scary news to me, his bedside manner was amazing--calm, caring, and honestly he was low-key excited to know he just saved a woman's life.He even took the time to personally call the oncologist and get me an immediate appointment to start treatment. The entire process has been incredible. His nursing staff answers all my random recovery questions via phone and email in plain terms and keeps me totally reassured. My in-person post-ops have been just as amazing. Also, shoutout to the anesthesiologist--literally one of the sweetest, kindest humans ever. I felt so safe. Going into major surgery comes with fears and doubts, but every single step of the way, I felt comforted and safe. I am so glad I chose Dr. Lawton for this life-changing event. Because he actually listened to me instead of just doing a lift, I get to live cancer-free. There aren't enough words to thank him. If you are looking to get "made over," choose Dr. Gary Lawton. This office has already canceled on her once with less than 24 hours' notice, which was frustrating and inconvenient--but we gave them the benefit of the doubt. Today, after driving over 40 minutes to the appointment, we were told she could not be seen unless she left a credit card on file. This was never mentioned over the phone when the appointment was confirmed. My mother, understandably, declined due to her credit cards being recently compromised at another medical facility. Instead of showing understanding or flexibility, they demanded a $100 cash deposit just in case of a future no-show. She didn't have $100 cash, and they refused to provide her with care. Shockingly, there was another woman in the office at the same time who was also denied care for the exact same reason. Denying patients--especially those in pain and with valid insurance--due to arbitrary financial policies that weren't disclosed in advance is unethical and deeply concerning. To make matters worse, this office has the audacity to enforce strict no-show penalties while canceling on patients themselves with less than 24 hours' notice. The double standard is unbelievable. We will be filing formal complaints with the state medical board and the Attorney General's office. No patient should be treated this way. This office is a clear example of what's wrong with parts of our healthcare system: prioritizing financial policies over compassion and care.

In my car, I reviewed my insurance and the appointment should have been at no cost to me per my insurance. The office staff was extremely unprofessional when trying to sort the situation and their only solution to me would be to see the doctor so they could refund my $50. I declined. When I first met Dr. Gassman, I'm not even going to lie... my first thought was, "He looks like Doogie Howser" I remember thinking, wait... are you old enough to be doing this?! But that feeling didn't last long. I came in with a million questions (seriously), and he answered every single one with patience, confidence, and detail. He never made me feel rushed or like I was asking too much which meant a lot during such a big decision. I also did a ton of research on him where he's worked, reviews, everything. That's when I learned how much he specializes in DIEP flap reconstruction and microsurgery, which made me feel even more confident in choosing him. I also loved learning that he has a passion for art and uses that in his work--and honestly, it shows. He is incredibly talented and takes pride in what he does. For reference, I'm 5'3" and about 205 pounds, so if you're someone who's plus size and wondering how this surgery might go for you--I hope this helps ease your mind. Also--before surgery, I was a very small A cup. I actually joked with Dr. Gassman and told him, "I'm the president of the itty bitty titty committee, and if you can get me out of the committee, I would greatly appreciate it" Let's just say... I woke up from my first surgery officially out of the committee--whoop whoop! I had my first DIEP flap surgery on December 3, 2025. I want to share this part because I know it's something everyone worries about--pain. For that first surgery, Dr. Gassman used nerve blocks, and he is phenomenal at them. I actually didn't use any pain medication at all, which still surprises me looking back. The recovery itself was tough (as expected with a major surgery), but the pain control was handled so well. I just had my second surgery on March 20, 2026, and I was honestly nervous...but it ended up being so much easier. I didn't have nerve blocks that time, and it honestly just feels like I did a really intense workout--more sore than actual pain. That was a huge relief. My results are looking good so far, and I even got a new belly button and was able to lower my scar, which I'm super grateful for ! I also want to recognize Dr. Elmi, who performed my double mastectomy. I originally started this journey as a preventative measure, but after my first surgery, she sat down with me and gently explained that I did in fact have cancer. She took the time to draw everything out and explain exactly what type it was in a way I could truly understand. Even though I don't live in San Antonio, she made sure I was set up with care back home in Florida, which meant so much to me. Looking back, I laugh at my first impression--but I'm so grateful I trusted both of these doctors. They are not only highly skilled, but they truly care about their patients. I…read moregracefully broke my fifth metacarpal and was starting to become terrified because it had been a couple days since the injury and I had not seen a specialist. Dr. Coleman's office was the first I had called, it was the one referred to me by two ER doctors, and they also managed to get me seen only an hour and a half after I called! Once getting there I filled out paperwork and was called back in less than 20 minutes. Dr. Coleman examined my X-rays from the ER and saw me shortly after the nurse David cut my splint off. He thoroughly explained what my options were as well as drew pictures to make it easy! Because I was scared out of my mind and sweating at that point (I had never broken anything before), Dr. Coleman took that extra step and even called my father who also works in the medical field to explain the situation! Without further ado, he decided to go for a reduction and then a cast to see where that takes us. My hand was numbed perfectly and in the mean time I was brought water and cookies because the numbing still needed to fully kick in and I was getting more nervous by the minute! In the mean time, the nurse David and two scribes (who's names I unfortunately don't recall) joked and laughed with me, allowing me ease up a bit. Dr. Coleman was able to then pull on my hand, all the while one of the super amazing scribes was holding my elbow down to keep it from moving up as well. You will not believe it, but with my good left hand I was eating my cookies, incredibly satisfied and not feeling a thing!! I felt like a champ but in reality it's all because of these amazing, caring folks who truly love what they do. My hand was then wrapped in a cast by David, which honestly is the neatest and most comfortable cast I could ever imagine! I swear it's perfect and I've had no issues for a week now. After the procedure, X-rays were taken again. Dr. Coleman did see something he was not certain about so they opted for me to get a CT scan just in case. David called around, pulled some strings, all the while busy with other patients as well and got me a cheaper option across town the same day!! I went, and a couple days later got a call from Dr. Coleman himself about the results. I go in tomorrow morning for a follow up and x-rays once more to check my progress, but honestly I can't wait to go again! If there's anyone I recommend, it will be these guys. Hands down! I initially went to Sonterra Dermatology because I was suffering from severe, persistent hives and an extremely itchy rash that had become unbearable. At my first visit, the physician assistant performed a skin biopsy and diagnosed me with contact dermatitis. When my symptoms continued, I returned and saw Dr. Matthew Malan. The appointment was very brief, and he recommended patch testing. I scheduled the test, but when I arrived for my appointment, I sat in the office for 30-40 minutes before being told they had accidentally used the patch test that had been set aside for me on another patient. They apologized and told me they would have to order another one, delaying my testing by another week. When you're dealing with relentless itching, hives, and sleepless nights, that kind of delay feels overwhelming. The following week, I returned for the patch test. Before applying the patches, the nurse commented that my back was already very inflamed. Despite that, the test was still administered. When I returned for my final reading, Dr. Malan immediately said the results were difficult to interpret because my back was so irritated. Then, almost as an afterthought, he said he thought I was allergic to nickel. He told me that a nickel allergy was "the worst thing in the world" because nickel is everywhere and compared living with it to "walking through a jungle of poison ivy" for the rest of my life. When I asked if there was any treatment or medication that could help, I was told there really wasn't anything I could do other than buy a nickel test online and check everything around me. I left that appointment feeling discouraged and hopeless. Thankfully, I sought a second opinion. My concierge physician performed a thorough medical evaluation, including blood work to rule out underlying conditions. Everything came back normal, and she diagnosed me with urticaria and referred me to an allergist. The allergist ultimately diagnosed me with Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria (CSU), confirming that my hives were not caused by a nickel allergy. What disappointed me most wasn't simply that the initial diagnosis turned out to be incorrect--medicine isn't perfect, and diagnoses can evolve. It was the overall experience: the scheduling mistake, performing a patch test despite my back already being significantly inflamed, the lack of discussion about the limitations of the test under those conditions, and leaving the appointment feeling frightened rather than supported. I hope this feedback encourages greater attention to patient care, communication, and ensuring diagnostic testing is performed under appropriate conditions. Patients who are suffering deserve to feel heard, informed, and given confidence that every effort is being made to reach the correct diagnosis.
