Okay I don't write reviews often... but I HAD to for Tarin at Sonterra Dermatology because she is THAT good. First of all -- the whole experience is 10/10. The office is beautiful, super efficient, and everyone is so kind. I barely had to wait, which is rare these days. But Tarin?? She is AMAZING. So sweet, so smart, and actually listens to you (which matters SO much). She explained everything in a way that made sense, gave me a plan that was easy to follow, and made me feel so comfortable the entire time. And the results... already seeing SUCH a difference in my skin, especially on my forehead. I'm actually excited about my skin again!! You can tell she genuinely cares and is passionate about helping people feel confident. I trust her completely. I've literally been telling everyone about her -- friends, family, random people LOL. If you're struggling with your skin or just want someone who actually gets it and will help you -- go to Tarin. Period. Also, the facility was very clean, and there were plenty of staff working, so there were no wait times for check-in or check-out. The office runs very efficiently. I was truly in and out! Every single staff member I spoke to greeted me with a warm smile, which I deeply appreciated! I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it's important to share my experience in hopes that it helps others. I initially went to Sonterra Dermatology because I was suffering from severe, persistent hives and an extremely itchy rash that had become unbearable. At my first visit, the physician assistant performed a skin biopsy and diagnosed me with contact dermatitis. When my symptoms continued, I returned and saw Dr. Matthew Malan. The appointment was very brief, and he recommended patch testing. I scheduled the test, but when I arrived for my appointment, I sat in the office for 30-40 minutes before being told they had accidentally used the patch test that had been set aside for me on another patient. They apologized and told me they would have to order another one, delaying my testing by another week. When you're dealing with relentless itching, hives, and sleepless nights, that kind of delay feels overwhelming. The following week, I returned for the patch test. Before applying the patches, the nurse commented that my back was already very inflamed. Despite that, the test was still administered. When I returned for my final reading, Dr. Malan immediately said the results were difficult to interpret because my back was so irritated. Then, almost as an afterthought, he said he thought I was allergic to nickel. He told me that a nickel allergy was "the worst thing in the world" because nickel is everywhere and compared living with it to "walking through a jungle of poison ivy" for the rest of my life. When I asked if there was any treatment or medication that could help, I was told there really wasn't anything I could do other than buy a nickel test online and check everything around me. I left that appointment feeling discouraged and hopeless. Thankfully, I sought a second opinion. My concierge physician performed a thorough medical evaluation, including blood work to rule out underlying conditions. Everything came back normal, and she diagnosed me with urticaria and referred me to an allergist. The allergist ultimately diagnosed me with Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria (CSU), confirming that my hives were not caused by a nickel allergy. What disappointed me most wasn't simply that the initial diagnosis turned out to be incorrect--medicine isn't perfect, and diagnoses can evolve. It was the overall experience: the scheduling mistake, performing a patch test despite my back already being significantly inflamed, the lack of discussion about the limitations of the test under those conditions, and leaving the appointment feeling frightened rather than supported. I hope this feedback encourages greater attention to patient care, communication, and ensuring diagnostic testing is performed under appropriate conditions. Patients who are suffering deserve to feel heard, informed, and given confidence that every effort is being made to reach the correct diagnosis. read more

I came here as the first time patient to get Botox. I moved here from California and so I had a lot of good choices there for providers. To be fair, Dana Point Dermatology probably spoiled me to other dermatologists. But I have had my own businesses for years, and I know that the customer experience is the most important thing in any business. That said, I understand that it is a business and should be treated as such. However, my experience with this office was cold and extremely impersonal. Everything was handled by staff members until the last 10 minutes of my visit. The staff was cordial enough. My appointment was on time, but there was just no warmth AT ALL. They put me through their process made a recommendation,told me how many units they thought I needed and gave me a price. ($650) It was more than I was accustomed to getting both in amount of Botox and in price, but hey, they are the experts, right? So I went with their recommendation. They got me all prepped. The doctor came in, literally said two words to me. Poked me seven or eight times in the face and walked out. I scheduled my return visit to come back in two weeks. When I came back, I noticed that the droopiness in my eyelids, which was usually corrected quite nicely with the Botox injections that I had received in the past had not changed. I basically looked exactly the same as I did when I came in the first time. When they asked me how I liked it I told them that. (again. I'm not seeing the doctor just a staff member) Instead of trying to give me some sort of solution, they just argued with me that that was what I should've expected, and there was nothing they could do about it. After I pushed back a little, (very nicely) they finally brought the doctor in who also was quite cold and defensive, and simply said that it's what I should've expected and there was nothing they could do so I paid my bill and went on my way. I think they used too much product above my eyes which caused my lids to remain droopy and I won't be going back. People will often forget what you say to them, but they will never forget how you make them feel. read more

Called this morning to see about getting a dermatology appointment and the second I started asking if they took my insurance, the lady HUNG UP ON ME. No call back. I called back multiple times throughout the morning and no one answered. I tried submitting a new patient appointment online and still haven't heard back, over 12 hours later. Thankfully, I read all these reviews and saved myself from this terrible "dermatology" office. Dodged a bullet....phew! so i recently had botox done for my frown lines and lip lines very first time and on consulatation they advised thats its the best solution though i was never being told its highly ineffective i spent a lot of money and it actually never worked for me its still same no change also wear off within a month i mean muscle movememt is back which was temporarily helping. now this organisation is backing out when i am trying to show how upset i am with highly unsatisfactory results staff was always being rude gives you a weird feeling with their expressions and doctor was also not understanding the concerns on follow up . any suggestions would be highly appreciated read more

I called to book a new patient appointment with Dr. Annabell Garcia at Sonterra Dermatology and it was a disaster! Seemed like the scheduler maybe was on her first day cause she didn't know anything! I went through the whole process, giving ALL my information. Then, the girl couldn't tell me if they would accept my Medicare supplement, Plan N, which should be accepted at any doctor who accepts Medicare. I was put on hold. She said they would call me back to tell me if they accepted it. Then, when we were in the process of scheduling day and time, I was put on hold AGAIN, only for her to come back and say Dr. Garcia was not accepting new patients! Shocked that she didn't know the doctor wasn't accepting new patients at the beginning of the call! I could have saved 10 minutes and multiple hold times if she had only told me at the beginning of the call. Besides all this, there was another scheduler in the background speaking Spanish REALLY LOUDLY and made it really hard to for me to hear. I'm thankful it didn't work out cause I'd never want to deal with office staff who doesn't know what they're doing. Really bad first impression! Avoid this office! read more

Dr Cervantes is a no nonsense, get straight to it kind of professional which is great. I came in for a mole removal/exam. She looked at it for a minutes and started palpating the thing and describing it which made me want to vomit. But she assured me it was nothing to be concerned about but could trim it down (gross) if I wanted. I was like let's do it. She told me to lie down and I would feel a "little" sting. Readers, let me tell you, that sh*T hurt. But it was just the numbing agent. Within 5 minutes she had cauterized the wound and I was out the door. I took off one star because I would have liked a bit more explanation of the procedure and what to expect. But from the swiftness of the procedure it seems like a common thing. But Dr Cervantes is a good doctor and friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone. Side note, Sonterra Dermatology is run like a well oiled factory. People are coming and going for various procedures, lining up for payment, etc. it reminded me of my old days in the Marines--a bit of a cattle call. But everything was efficient so I guess their system works. read more

I've been there a handful of times over the years for a few skin issues and had a pretty pleasant experience each visit, from what I recall. It wasn't until my last interaction this past week that I was extremely disappointed in the way the doctor handled my care. For some context, I went in a few weeks ago for some redness/bumpiness on my face that just won't go away. It was a follow up from the last time I had been there in December. I moved out of state back in August for school, but each time I had flown in to visit my family, I coordinated these appointments because I trusted them to figure out what was going on with my face. The doctors, including Dr. Garcia, seemed stumped at my last appointment, so they performed a biopsy. I was very nervous to have them cut into my face, but felt reassured that they would get to the bottom of what was happening because that's what they kept telling me. I remind the doctor BEFORE they perform the biopsy that I live out of state, and she says that it's okay because she would call me to coordinate my treatment after we get the results. Fast forward to when I do get my results (after they had called me with the wrong results, at first), they send some meds (that haven't been working). I call back asking if the doctor wants to have a follow up and the staff person says yes. I tell her it would need to be over the phone or virtual, and the staff member says she'll ask the doctor how to proceed. I wait a few days and call back, asking about a follow up again. The staff member puts me on hold, comes back, and states that the doctor says she actually cannot continue treating me after that because I moved. I was surprised and disappointed because I had told them about my move beforehand. I ask if she's sure because she had stated it would be fine, and the staff member says that the doctor just won't see me anymore. It was extremely disheartening to have them cut into my face and then dismiss my care. I was trusting them to get to the bottom of it and paid them a lot for the biopsy (which was a cost that they didn't even warn me about before performing). I just wish the doctor hadn't reassured me so much about figuring it out and then suddenly discontinue care with me. If it's an out of state licensure thing, I can understand. But I wish she would've made the effort to at least explain it to me directly and have a conversation instead of having a staff member deliver that kind of news. From the patient's perspective, it feels disrespectful and somewhat dishonest. read more

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Sonterra Dermatology at the Stone Oak location. The moment I walked in, I was greeted by Amy who was friendly and welcoming. When I was called to the back by Kim she greeted me and shared how she remembered me from 4 years ago, (mind you this was my second visit with Sonterra) that was impressive and that shows she takes pride in her clients. The experience I had with Kim was outstanding. During the process of my diamond glow appointment, Kim was very thorough which made me feel I was getting my money's worth. I called to try to have rectified and the first time i spoke to a young lady that convinced me cool sculpting took time to work. Guess what, year lady seems no different just uneven side handles. 1. Wait time is long. I waited 30 minutes to 55 minutes after scheduled appointment time to see the doctor. 2. Billing practices are horrible. I was not informed how much my procedure would cost before the procedure was done. After it was done, I was told my bill would be about $200. A month afterwards, I was sent another bill for a separate charge that I was never informed about. Absolutely do not recommend. read more

I have gone in multiple times for cystic acne and my sensitive skin. They've prescribed me accutane even though I specifically said I don't want it (I'm on a list that says I can't take it), All they do is push chemical peels and expensive skin treatments on you to help but none of them do anything. I have been prescribed topical treatments and those don't work either. I know you're thinking "well if nothing works why do you keep going back" because this place is local and I keep having hope they'll take care of me properly and I will see some results and I'm left with disappointment every single time. My skin has naturally gotten better on its own through basic cleansing and moisturizing everyday but damn I wish I could have clear skin after going here for almost 3 years. Completely useless office. They don't accept most insurances btw because they like to get every penny you earn out of you. Be careful not to get upsold on random skincare products that aren't for you. Honestly if you're reading this don't go to this dermatologist they absolutely suck. Find somewhere else please And Rene if you're reading this stop misinforming people. You don't do anything but reply to these reviews pretending you'll look into it or you care about these people. You know good and well this office is a cash grab and nothing else. No patients have been successful here that's why they take pictures of every person praying and hoping there's some kind of results so they have proof that they're doing something. Great first impression! I initially received a referral from my PCP to another dermatology clinic but, after reading some of the reviews and asking around, I made the decision to cancel that referral and find another clinic in my network. I chose this one based on the good reviews here and elsewhere. I was seen by Daniella Arellano PA-C for hair loss/thinning. She listened to everything I had to say and presented various options we could take. No pressure to dive balding-head first into some expensive procedure, but I am happy that I was presented with a few paths to pursue without ruling out any of them for future consideration. I even had some medical questions a week after my appointment so I called and left a message, and I received a call back the same day with answers. This was my first time at this office. It was very clean and everyone I encountered from check-in to check-out was very nice. Located on Sonterra ACROSS from the Methodist hospital - navigation kept wanting me to go TO the hospital! I have only given it 4 stars because I don't know yet if the visit will fix my issue and I did not want to mislead anyone by giving the impression they can fix EVERYTHING immediately. I had Teresa do my miradry procedure, but let me give you some backstory. My first date meeting my now wife was super embarrassing. I remember excusing myself to the bathroom, taking my shirt off and trying to dry my sweat marks from my shirt. It had become so bad, that anytime I would wear a button down...my pits would produce more moisture than the geysers at Yellowstone. Most recently, I had a board meeting on a webinar and everyone could see the wet marks even with keeping my arms down....so embarrassing. I tell you all of that to say, if you can relate at all....DO IT! The first day after was painful with swelling, until I cryo'd at TotalRegenCryo. I went axe throwing that evening with a long sleeve dress shirt on. It was the first time I've EVER wore a dress shirt that my underarms remained dry. Trust me, Miradry has changed my life and everyone at Sonterra was amazing. read more

If only Facetune existed in reality and wasn't simply an app for social media.... Nonetheless I needed to go to a dermatologist after I noticed something was not quite right with my skin. Afraid I was going to be eaten alive from the inside out (I watch way too many horror movies), I decided to find a dermatologist who was in-network for Blue Cross Blue Shield. They were nice enough to squeeze me in the week of my inquiry which was very reliving as I was already down the rabbit hole of webmd. The wait wasn't long whatsoever and it is a very clean establishment. May I also add that everyone I ran into here that works here has like perfect skin. I was kinda creeper, sorry y'all, but was amazed at everyone's perfect skin. It makes sense though when you're a walking billboard to say. Now my skin problem wasn't on my face but was on my thighs (sorry for the explicit details) but I felt comfortable getting examined by the staff. They provide disposable "examining" clothes so it's easy for Doctor to check the problem area and they're sanitary. After a prompt examination they figured out everything and gave me the proper medications and had them filled at my preferred pharmacy. Everyone was super kind and I had a great follow-up session. I'm very happy to say all is resolved and I don't a flesh-eating disease; however, I found out you should wear loose swimwear time-to-time when swimming laps so you don't continuously irritate the skin if you swim frequently. read more

I went to the pearl office. I spent with the doctor 10 min to not offer any solution but for the assistance to hand me a Eye Dr referral. My second appointment I scheduled to se Dr Garcia but another assistant saw me for another ten min an told me she didn't do consultations and to hand me another Dr information in a small piece of paper. I paid with insurance and a deductible of $50 the first time and the second time $100 to see a consultant that told me my neck looked creepy. They have no shame in their game. Terrible place to go. Just don't. There are other dermatologists and medical staff that are more professional and offer better office operations. Scheduling an appointment is a nightmare. I had to call every day to get past a busy tone. Some of the phone numbers on their website are not active. If you choose to schedule/reschedule online, their online system does not accurately update and you will receive a call to confirm an appointment you already canceled. You have to chase the staff down for answers and follow ups. There is minimal compassion or understanding from the staff when challenges arise in scheduling, and insurance/pharmacy relay. I had one in office visit and a follow up video conference visit. I am in search of a new dermatologist. I also want to note- on the times I was there, I overheard the staff constantly ask each other for each other's or doctors passwords. It's 2020, get it together. read more

Dr. Garcia is wonderful and kind but the billing is horrible and not worth going. You will get over charged and when you call them they don't care. I recently went to Dr. Garcia and was charged appropriately so I took my daughter and saw Dr. Metzinger and she spent 4 minutes !!! with my daughter and stated several diagnoses and the truth is she answered 2 question with one sentence a piece and took advantage of the billing !!! I called billing and did not care and when I said I would not return they just wanted my final payment !!!! Literally the best dermatologist I have ever been to was Justin Bandino. He was the first and only dermatologist to ever suggest I go to an endocrinologist to figure out why I'm basically growing a beard and having so many skin tags (along w other things). He prescribed me an amazing cream to help with my acne. He was thorough and caring and very helpful. The services are a little pricey but definitely worth it for the quality of care received. read more

Cindy was awesome for my Coolsculpting Elite and EMsculpt procedures! She impressed me during my initial consultation as she only recommended what I needed, not necessarily areas that other centers had recommended. She was very pleasant and enjoyable during the procedures, explaining everything that was going to happen and happy to answer any questions. I am very happy with my results so far and look forward to seeing the final results at the end of 12 weeks. The front desk was also very nice and pleasant, I would recommend this center to anyone that is interested in the above mentioned procedures. read more

DO NOT EVER GO HERE!!! I went here to get a an analysis on my skin and they tried to just get me to go to their med spa- um- I want dermatology not mystery potions. THEN-The Derm Matthew Malan advised me to remove a skin growth and have it sent for biopsy. They sent it out and It was my understanding that once I paid for everything at there office-the biopsy would be included, I even asked when was in the derm room the amount for EVERYTHING Including the biopsy. NOPE I was sent a bill for $170 2 months later from the Pathology place. Luckily I called the pathology place said that this happens all the time with these types of places. I called and called and finally got the receptionist on the phone and they just kept repeating themselves. SHAME ON YOU SONTERRA FOR NOT BEING COMPLETELY TRANSPARENT. I also had to ASK the derm to prescribe me Retin A after he tried to send me home with some of the low active products for $350. What part of I don't want med spa treatments or skin care did he not understand. This place just wants to run up a high bill for you and, not even be transparent with what you will be charged. Terrible Experience. Go to a dermatologist that is not connected to a medical spa if you want dermatological treatment. Also- I am certain a regular derm office will make sure you know everything you will be charged for and what to expect. I would have never thought I was going to be getting another bill in the mail after that visit. Just awful. Beware people, they just want to sell products and expensive med spa services that dont work as good as real derm medicine. RUN read more

Dr. Garcia is great to work with. I see her regularly every 6 months because of my fair skin. She loves that liquid nitrogen tool though! I'm going to have to start wearing foundation for a week after every time I see her. Pricing is a little on the high side, and I need to double check every time, thus not the five stars. read more

This is the first time I've ever been inspired to write a yelp review. Very disappointed with Sonterra Dermatology. I went on Thursday needing help with a rash bumps that suddenly broke out on my hand and arms. They got me in and out in an assembly line like fashion, and prescribed me a topical ointment to help clear it up. I believe I saw a physician's assistant. The next day the rash was worse than the day before and it had spread all over my body. I called them shortly after opening to inquire the best way to deal with it/different prescriptions etc. They told me they would email me a link to upload pictures to. They sent the link 4 hours later. I uploaded pictures immediately and then gave them several more hours to respond. They didn't so I started calling them and left a voicemail around 4:15. Nothing, they don't answer their phones 45 minutes before closing. It gets worse over the weekend. I call them first thing Monday morning to once again try to get a different prescription/advice, I'm told they would get back to me. I have to call them 6 hours later and they respond with the doctors are busy they should be able to review your photos soon(like right before they close for the day, yeah right). I then ask to speak to the manager to which I'm told they will call (they didn't). So now it's Tuesday morning, my skin is worse than ever and they finally called and left a voicemail. They didn't address their complete lack of follow-up for 2 full business days, but did try to sell me a twice a month injection. If you want overpriced substandard care from people who clearly can't be bothered then you've found your place. read more

Dr. Moore, Deja, and Nicole were AMAZING during my first visit from intake through checkout. The office is upscale and staff is very friendly and helpful. The office runs ON SCHEDULE, I did not have to wait at all and actually was seen slightly earlier than my appointment time! Dr. Moore took time with me, addressed my concerns, and came up with a morning and night routine to improve the unwanted texture on my cheeks. He anticipated what questions I would have before I asked them! I didn't feel rushed and he was very warm. Deja was attentive and friendly and she wrote down everything that Dr. Moore recommended for me and gave her skincare tips on sunscreen. Nicole was awesome at check out and took the time to patch test the sunscreen on my skin to ensure it would look natural. Overall it was a great visit, the entire team was very welcoming and professional. Nicole even had me laughing during checkout. They stocked all the products that they recommended, which made things much easier for me to buy all at the same time and place. Will update with results of the new routine. read more

45 min wait at check-in despite the fact that i had my new pt packet filled out! Waited another 45 minutes in the exam room! MA was rude while going over my ROS never making eye contact. Office is gorgeous but, desperately needs training in people skills, time management for overbooking patients & training in compassionate & on time care! When PA D. Arellano came in she spent 12 minutes total time with me charged my insurance hundreds of dollars and billed me additional fees! Unethical. read more

Both of my girls skin looks great and she has them on a great regimen. The staff is always professional and knowledgeable and they go the extra mile to help you with what ever you may need. I have going to Sonterra Derm. for about two years. Love the location. Love the staff and office. Received the care I needed. Dr. Metzinger cleared my rosacea and smoothed my skin. I was a fan of hers. HOWEVER.... this month I had a dermatitis issue start breaking out over my skin. Daily, it was worsening. I had the same issue last February so I knew what it was. Due to the holiday uptick in cosmetic visits, I could not get an appt. with any dermatologist in the entire practice for weeks, and in some cases, months. This is unacceptable patient care. When an entire office ceases to be able to care for its patients' medical issues due to the more lucrative cosmetic appointments, it's time to say adios. I switched to another dermatology practice. The dermatologist told me today if I had a MEDICAL issue with my skin that was worsening, walk in to the office. He will work me in that very day. Now that's true patient care, folks. I will never return to Sonterra Dermatology. My needs for a dermatologist are medical, not superficial cosmetic wants. read more

Few times, including today, I wanted to give up and find a new place BUT I've meant the sweetest, caring, compassionate, hard working, goes out of her way to make things right......her name is Kim.
