The one thing I knew I desired with wild abandon in my last trimester of pregnancy would be a belly blessing. During my many years on Yelp, I have seen the reviews and stunning pictures for Mehndi Time, all of them leaving me quite impressed and longing to get adorned with henna. Well, the time finally came this Spring. Having reached my 37th week, I made the appointment and waddled to Anju's house. My visit was incredibly exciting, as Anju was a absolute pleasure to meet and incredibly talented. I had previously picked out a belly design from her website gallery and the fun began. As stated in previous reviews, her ability to freehand these amazing, intricate designs is most impressive. I had quite a soothing time sitting on her couch and letting her create this magnificent art on my swollen belly. Kudos for being able to keep a steady hand while my baby kicked about her canvas. After we were finished, Anju took some pictures for her website and kindly sent them my way afterwards. She didn't have to extend that courtesy, and again, I am very grateful as they turned out beautiful, as did her design. Fast forward to the next morning. As I am in the shower, scrapping off the paste I slept with overnight something unexpected happens. My water breaks. That afternoon my daughter arrives into this world, again quite unexpectedly and 3 weeks early. Even though I can't medically prove it, I give all the credit to Anju and her belly blessing. If you ever need mehndi done, for ANYTHING, Anju is the best. She's artistic, professional, and her mehndi smells amazing. I can't believe I waited so long to write a post about it. She had great recommendations for getting the final henna color to be as dark as possible, and it smelled like eucalyptus. She even gave me good advice (which I refused) about not doing my henna during my ladies' sangeet - I wish I had listened! Anju had to put up with me being incredibly cranky while putting henna on me during the party (i wanted to dance!!). She never made me feel bad about it- and I'm grateful. Anju is a true artist. I happened on her mehndi business on accident through surfing the web and she just happened to live in a neighborhood nearby my own. I wanted to get a belly blessing for my pregnancy and Anju was willing and able to do it. I still can't believe her ability to freehand such beautiful designs - she has such talent! My mother and I had the pleasure of getting henna from Anju on the Friday after Thanksgiving. In the weeks prior to our appointment I communicated quite a bit about design and price and she was incredibly informative. I sent her a picture and she gave me an accurate quote. Our appointment was at Anju's home which was very comfortable. I got a belly blessing that I expected to take quite a while to complete as the design was pretty intricate. My mom got a design on her hand. Both took just over an hour. She works quickly while maintaining beautiful work and keeping up a conversation at the same time. I would recommend Anju's henna for both individuals and groups. Plan according though because there is maintenance that has to be done to your design for several hours after the application that I wasn't aware of. I also found Anju by "accident" (google) when looking for a true henna artist with knowledge of Indian traditions to do my belly blessing. I made the short drive from San Antonio to meet her at her home (which was a lovely and comfortable environment). As other posters have mentioned, she astounded me with her fast acting and artistic hands! She free handed my design on my belly and hands in about an hour. Equally impressive is that she uses all natural henna, prepared in her own kitchen...this was VERY important to me given the proximity of the henna to my growing baby. Anju goes above and beyond to be sure that your henna experience is as good as it can be. She went over care instructions and knowing that I had to make the drive back to SA, she took the extra time to help me dry my henna, treat it and cover it for a safe ride home. Last night myself and my girlfriends went to get henna with Anju for my Indian themed birthday dinner. She was very easy to schedule with and let us know that we wanted to do it about 2 days in advance so that it would have time to oxidize and get darker. We arrived at 5:30 and all four of us were done by 7:15! She did beautiful free hand work and made sure we understood how to care for it. So far mine is looking great! Its already pretty dark and the design is amazing! Really fun time for the girls and a really comfortable home. It smelled like jasmine incense and henna of course. Two weeks ago I attended a ladies weekend in Garden Ridge, TX. One of the ladies had arranged for Anju to give us all Henna tattoos. What a treat! Anju is incredible! I had Anju do my bridal henna. She was the only wedding vendor who did less than satisfactory work. She did not follow the designs I had sent her that I picked from her website. She finished my bridal henna on my feet and hands in an hour. I expressed my displeasure over the amount and quality of work she did. She made no attempt to deliver what she promised.
