If you want a Urologist that's going to hold your hand and chat about all the aspects of your medical life, this is not the doctor for you. Doctor Movassaghi has set up his office to be a well oiled machine. He's an experienced and knowledgeable professional that, with the support of his well trained staff, maximizes his time with his patient interactions as he knows what's he doing. In truth, I was reluctant to see Doctor Movassaghi for my current issue. This was based on my husband's prior experience with him about a year ago. At that time, we found him to be brusk and not particularly friendly. From the test results, he told my husband and I, that he found nothing wrong with my husband. His interaction with us took a whopping 4 minutes and then he was out the door. In essence, Dr Movassaghi succinctly old us, whatever my husband's issues, it is not directly nor indirectly related to Urology. In retrospect, my initial evaluation of Dr Movassaghi, based on this previous third party experience, was wrong. Remember: Doctor Movassaghi Is an Urology specialist. He is NOT a Functional, Holistic, or D.O. practitioner (i.e., is not there to root out the basis for all your aches and pains). He is Board Certified Urologist. Though it was probably part of his initial training, he doesn't even profess to be an Internist. He is a Urologist - period. Within the parameters of Western Medicine, he's excellent. Your best medical advocate is YOURSELF. I never assume nor expect my MDs to be fully prepared or knowledgeable about all my possible medical issues. They are only as good as the information you provide to them. For first time visits, I provide a hardcopy synopsis of my medical history and pertinent recent test results. I do not assume the MD or their staff can quickly navigate their computer information system to adequately get a complete picture of my medical history. This is particularly important as I frequent different medical facilities within Greater L.A. Though technically we are told that all medical practitioners are now able to access your records, no matter where the doctor works, I have found this to be not 100% accurate. As a side note: whoever decided that USC Keck's patient record and communication software is "good enough" should be slapped. It's clearly home - grown. It is cumbersome and inefficient, and nowhere close to being as effective as that from St John's Providence, UCLA, Centinela, Cedars Sinai or even Long Beach Memorial's. Though the majority of Dr Movassaghi's patients are male, I was surprised, that despite his quick and efficient approach, he was able to perform a cystoscopy (visual internal scoping of my bladder) with minimal discomfort. Actually, I did yelp at one point, and he immediately took a much more gentler approach. If you need a Urologist, I highly recommend Dr Movassaghi. He's what I call is in that "sweet spot": He attended excellent medical schools (UCLA, USC and Stanford). He completed Residency and Fellowship training, was Chief Resident at USC, and is Board Certified in his speciality (Did you know that anyone with an MD can put out a shingle professing ANY speciality; that a Podiatrist can market themselves as Neonatal Specialist -- this is extreme but you get the idea. This reinforces the importance of seeking MD's with Board Certifications). Dr Movassaghi is old enough and has sufficient clinical / patient experience to know what he's doing with current medical knowledge, but not too old that his education is out-dated. Today, he did not just prescribe me antibiotics and then pushed me out the door. He was knowledgeable enough to ask if I was open to taking antibiotics. I declined due to certain medical considerations. He did not push the issue, but respected my preference. My only nit: his handwriting (like many doctors) is bit challenging :) A particular shout out to Ryan, Doctor Movassaghi's P.A. Lastly, regarding the reviewer who thought it weird and inappropriate for Dr Movassaghi to ask his wife her age. It makes perfect sense. Dr Movassaghi wanted to assess if it's possible her issues may be related to menopause. read more

I found Dr. Movassaghi to not only be very competent, but also caring, and professional. His phone and front office staff are also polite and friendly. What I look for in a doctor is, first and foremost, his competence and track record in his specialty. His mannerism is very important, but comes second. Doctor Movassaghi has both. I am lucky I was referred to him by my own PCP of over 30 years, who I trust with my life, and who spoke very highly of Dr. Movassaghi. He was never late on me. But, doctors have earned the right to be late to the office, as they often run between clinics and hospitals, procedures and surgeries. They save lives. You want a good doctor? Good! Let me start with this! My father had terrible case of kidney stones and was in desperate need of a really good Urologist. He's part of Providence so I needed a good referral and I was referred to Dr. Movassaghi thk God! My dad isn't the best at taking care of himself and was way overdue for a prostate exam. I like that Dr. Movassaghi is not only a Urologist but also an oncologist. First thing I noticed was how beautiful the office was. It's beautifully designed. Many doctors offices have no vibe and are old and out of date, but not this place it was really fresh right out AD MAG! And it's kind of nice because it helps you forget that you're at the doctor. The staff is really on top of everything and super helpful and focused. They're really top-tier. My favorite part is this beautiful wall in the back where you can take selfie's with the neon sign. The staff is so helpful and everyone works well together. My dad didn't have to wait but two minutes after checking in, he got in a room right away. The doctor really did a good job of addressing all my Dad's concerns w alleviating his kidney stones n other issues. Dr Movassaghi has a lot of new and innovative treatments very progressive physician. This doctor charges $800+ for a consult, which he saw and spoke to my husband for 10 minutes max. Prescribed him medicine and at the next refill a month later, they refused to refill without a follow up. My husband and I both work in the medical field so this was all offensive and funny to us. When I arrived for my annual appointment and asked how long the wait would be, I was told 30-45 min, but another staff member (who was sneezing and sniffing during a pandemic with the delta variant active) joked and said two hours. It quickly became clear her joke was based on experience. What's worse, the waiting room is so tiny and over capacity that they had a man sitting on the floor and two other patients waiting in the hallway including one in a wheelchair (see attached photo). After waiting nearly an hour, I was told it would be another 45 minutes and there was no apology. Just a rude response. This was particularly concerning because I had to hold off on going to the bathroom all morning so I could give a sample. He forced me to see him very often for consultations so he could keep charging me, and rushed every one of our consultations to be 5 MINUTES. When I asked him questions, he mostly gave short, unhelpful answers. He NEVER showed up on time. His staff is terrible at coordinating and don't keep their word in returning calls. After the last 5 MIN CONSULTATION, I've never felt been so remotely uncared for as a patient in my entire life. He is the worst Dr on the planet! Dr Movassaghi is an outstanding doctor. He takes communication very seriously, and personally returned my call to his office. I was surprised at how well he tracked my case over a few months, even though he was only peripherally involved because I only needed him to give me a lab request and later, tell me the results from it. He's very respectful and calm, and when you have questions, he explains things very clearly and simply and may also explain his reasoning. If I'm in LA when I turn 40 and check in to see if I need any screenings, I'll be glad to see him again. Also, his office handled my insurance (Blue Shield of California PPO). I have been going to a Urologist for almost 20 years. My wife tried my doctor but he couldn't help her so I found her another Urologist. We made an appointment and I went with her to the appointment. He set up various tests for her and when we were leaving I mentioned some issues that I was having. He knew that I already had a Urologist so he began telling me what to tell my guy. It was very technical so I asked if he would help me too. It turned out that I had something called a Urethral Stricture (it's a scarring inside the penis). It was bad enough that I could barely urinate. He set up a surgery to remove it. Everything went well and after weeks of recovery I could urinate more easily. Some of the abdominal pain that I was having went away and I was really happy. Helping my wife turned out to help me. I am really happy that I found him. The office he is in is very new and has top quality equipment. The doctor himself is such a nice man and he will do everything possible to help you with your problems. I am really glad that we found him. Actually, I found him on Yelp. The office is COVID19 safe and they take every precaution. If you can get an early appointment you will be able to park on the street and not have to pay for parking in the lot. read more
