Casings are not properly closed, they don't taste the same and their Wienerle look wrinkly and outright unappetizing + they are oversmoked. Very sad to see an institution go downhill and change that quickly from being an authentic German butcher to being a subpar spot that has none of the craftsmanship and quality that they used to have. The staff did seem annoyed that we wanted to spend way too much money getting sandwiches and groceries with them, but at least they were efficient, and the selection is eclectic and fun. They've got fresh wild turkey eggs, a surprisingly great selection of cheese, all kinds of house-cured meats, as well as the standard array of deli meats with which they'll make you some pretty decent sandwiches. There's also all sorts of sauces, jams, pickled pineapple (!) local honey, beer, cider, some bizarrely priced minced dried onion...I had a blast poking around and overpaying for a random assortment of edible delights (although some were more delightful than others). The selection was wide given the size of the operation. And I got to meet the man that makes it all happen: Hank Barlow. He was extremely friendly and helpful. He even agreed to meet me in the pitch black at night in 9-degree cold to let me shop after I got out of work and could make the trek out to Sharon. It's beautiful country, surrounded by mountains and state forests. There's even a covered bridge coming into town. It's worth the trip out to see the farm and the area even if you are a vegetarian. But, if you are a meat eater like I am, this was a life-changing experience. In addition to being cost effective (even the filet is $23/pound compared to 17 at your local grocer for crap that is fed corn syrup, antibiotics and hormones and $35 at whole foods for god knows what), this operation is local, sustainable, humane and family-run. This is what it's all about folks.

For over 70 decades I've enjoyed the tasty sausage - until this year, 2024. It was so apparent when I fried the sausage something had changed. In the past there was a light layer of grease from the sausage fat. This year there was no grease, only water. The pan filled with 1/3" of water that had to be drained to properly fry the sausage. The taste was even worse! Gone were the spices that, in the past, contributed to the delicious taste. The sausage is now very bland and tasteless. My husband even commented the sausage tasted like cardboard with no flavor at all. The cooked sausage and another package in the refrigerator went in the trash. Sad to say but after over 7 decades, good bye Marona's. There will be no more annual treks to buy what used to be the best breakfast sausage you could find. So sad.
