Visiting from the Chicago suburbs and the Brakes went out on the left rear side of my F-350. I called hoping to get an opponent, and they said to come right in. My daughter took her van into Meineke on Central Ave, Dubuque because it was noisy. They said the flex pipe needed to be fixed which cost me $825. A month later it was noisy again. They said it was because a motor mount came loose and slipped down and they wanted $400 to fix it. I didn't have the repair done because I thought they were overcharging and I didn't trust them. They should have seen that possibility at the first visit.. One wonders if this was a ripoff because the customer was a female, as that does happen. My daughter later talked to them about the repair but they didn't change anything. I am disappointed in Meineke, I am one more complaint against them and will never use them again. I helped a friend in need with car repairs and told her she had to go to Meineke in Iowa because I had a card for Meineke. I spoke with the mechanic and gave him a limit. He did honor it the first time. My friend drove off the lot and discovered her front bearings needed repair. I called again and was quoted 673.00. I WAS SPECIFIC TO SAY DO NOT GO OVER 700.00. Yesterday my friend picked the car up and the bill was 970.00!! AND THEY DID WORK I DID NOT APPROVE!! ANOTHER 300.00 AND THEY ARE SUPER LUCKY I HAD ENOUGH ON MY CREDIT CARD!! Wow.. just wow.... I made an appointment via their website on Friday afternoon, and I was very happy to be able to book an appointment on Saturday, March 16, 2013 to have my wheels aligned after getting new tires. I showed up to my appointment 10 minutes early and the guy at the counter asked me what I wanted. I told him I had an appointment scheduled at 1:30 to have my wheels aligned. He looked at me and said "I don't think so." I proceeded to show him the e-mail confirmation of the appointment being scheduled at his location and he said "that's wrong." I politely informed him that it was not my problem that the website information was inaccurate and that it was misleading to say you take online appointments on your website and then when the customer arrives for their appointment you tell them that you don't take appointments online. To top it all off, the guy looks at me and says that the shop closes at 2. I told him that the website says the shop closes at 4. He says "Yea, that's not right either." He then proceeds to grab a form, still believing he could keep my business. I told him that he closed in a half an hour and asked if he really thought he could align all four wheels within a half an hour. He replied "probably not." Evidently, this fool was under the impression that he was going to inconvenience me even more by asking me to leave my car there until MONDAY! After scheduling my entire Saturday around this appointment, the only thing I can say I walked away with was a curt "sorry." I walked out of that grease pit and won't be looking back. I had my muffler done here in 2012. Break down of the bill HEAVY DUTY MUFFLER WITH LIFETIME WARRANTY 123.99 MUFFLER INSTALLATION LABOR 49.50 So of course, 4 years later, when I needed my "heavy duty" replaced I returned to Meineke. I fully expected to be charged labor for the free replacement muffler but what I didn't expect was that in 4 years labor would be more than doubled. What was 49.50 in 2012 was now 115.50. I was pretty annoyed by the more than 50% increase in price, so I asked the man to give me the muffler I had coming and I will be shopping installation around elsewhere. I have always had a sneaky suspicion about Meineke but now I am certain they are crooks. read more

We were on a day trip to Dubuque, and had an issue with our car. As it turned out, the problem was minor and the guys were able to diagnose and fix the problem quickly and at a fair price. We especially liked the comfortable furniture in the customer waiting area. The only thing missing was wi-fi. Overall, the experience was pleasant. We highly recommend this shop. read more

I live in Colorado and my daughter is a student at Clarke University. We bought her a used car when we dropped her off hoping for the best. After 2 months, she started having problems and being so far away, that is a parents worst fear. We looked at some reviews and ended up getting the car towed to Meineke. Rick and the rest of the guys took great care of her and got her on her way. She unfortunately had a few other issue with the car and after bringing it in the last time, They gave her a car to use till they figured out what was going on and have gone above and beyond to get things fixed up safely. As a parent 900 miles away, I can't thank Rick and his crew enough for taking care of my girl. They have made her feel comfortable and don't talk down to her. First off I was recommended Meineke by a coworker who stated her father-in-law worked her and was a real "straight shooter" I needed new tired badly and really didn't know where to take my car since this was the first time getting new tires. So I took it in and my first impression was overall good I left my car there for my scheduled appointment and they called me 4 hours later to pick it up. Once I picked it up and I drove it home I noted a clunking in the rear. Assuming it was the new tires adjusting I didn't pursue it further. After awhile the clunking was really concerning me like what if the wheel wasn't on securely. So when I planned a trip to Des Moines I took it in to Meineke for a second time to get and oil change and look into the clunking. Upon inspection of my car the asked if I had added air to my tires after I got them. I said no I have not added any air. Turns out one of the rear tires was overly inflated. So this means they installed new tires on my car that weren't the correct PSI to begin with. Also they told me the sway bar bushing were loose and that was the clunking I have been hearing. I opted to not fix the bushings at this time because I was told it was not something I needed at this time that I would just continue to here clunking but I should get it fixed soon. I did not think much of this just assumed it was bad luck that the bushings go bad right after I get new tires. But the overinflated tire struck me as odd. I did however recommend this place to my husband who had just bought a 1996 Toyota T 100. He needed an oil change in it and also the previous day the car did not start till he jumped the battery. So he decided to give Meineke a try. He called them and told them he had just bought this vehicle just days ago and didn't know much about it but that it wouldn't start without jumping the battery. He told them he needed an oil change for sure but could they please inspect the vehicle and complete an inspection to tell him if anything is wrong with it but did express the concern about the battery as well. He received a call letting him know the battery is all charged up and it starts but they think the transfer case is loose and that is why it doesn't start and when the mechanic went to start the car to show it didn't start the truck surprised him and started right up. So my husband asked them "do I need a new battery?" They said well we charged it up but it is 6 years old and should probably be replaced. ( couldn't even give him a straight answer if he needed a new battery or not) Also the c joints needed to be replaced which is something he was told by the previous owner. So he decided to leave with just the oil change and take care of the rest at a later date. By the time my husband made it home with his truck his brakes were completely gone. We took the care into a different mechanic the next day and he was told the brake lines were rusted out and the gas line was "damn near close to rusting out". This whole experience has completely turned me off from ever going to this place again. To miss something like that is appalling. I will not be recommending this place to another person. I extremely disappointed with this business. A mechanic is someone you should be able to trust as a professional. Now I'm sure the brake line would have rusted through any day with or without the inspection and that can just happen but it's a disappointment that something like that was missed. And why would my brand new tires have the incorrect air pressure upon installation. And why did the sway bar bushings go bad right after the new tires. It's been one disappointment after another with this place. Now im back to square one trying to find a mechanic I trust. read more

We had to get our exhaust pipe repaired this weekend and this place was recommended by a repair shop in Galena, IL. We called and they were able to look at the car immediately and fix the problem within 30 minutes. They asked us to take a look at the problem for ourselves and took us into the repair shop, explained exactly what was wrong, and showed how they'd repair it. As someone with minimal knowledge of car repair, we really appreciated it. We'd highly recommend this shop to anyone. read more

I took my daughter's ford escort to this shop to have a "flex pipe" replaced. I was charged over $200 for this repair. A month later I had to have another exhaust pipe replaced. I explained to the mechanic what I was charged for the previous repair completed at Meineke and he laughed and told me that the pipe they replaced was available locally for around $30. Why was I charged over $200. I will not be back to Meineke. read more
