After a negative experienced with a previous contractor, I learned not go with a low end aluminum, vinyl or a pre fabricated imported kit. I wanted to avoid any wood material product due to the maintenance cost. Originally, I was looking for a 14' x 14' uni before I started interviewing local dealers and installers. After interviewing six dealers offering custom fabricated aluminum or steel, I compared the two products pros and cons. Price was not my deciding factor in my decision making but I was in favor towards an operational louver system (controlled lighting), single source, a company with a proven track record, and a warranteed product. I met with Dan Miller in sales (former GC) from Vergola came over to give a sales presentation of different configurations and pricing. We met numerous visits to discuss the details. I also visited their showroom in Gardena and viewed a restaurant project they completed in Orange County. I awarded the project to Vergola since they met all my criteria mentioned above and I increased the overall size to 50' x 19' attached to my roof. The vergola totals five bays of louvers & electronic motors that remotely operate the louvers. The project needed to have design drawings, site plan, and engineering submittal drawings for city review, permitting and inspections. The custom vergola consists of locally fabricated steel beams, aluminum custom painted 8" x 8" custom painted post wraps, rain gutters & lining. The electrical wiring for (2) 54" fans, 14 recessed lights and 3 electrical outlets. The Vergola adjustable louvers are double sided with an air space to allow enhanced cooling and heating. The Vergola system has been in the international market for over 40 years and originates from Australia but also has an office, showroom and operation in Gardena CA. The office staff was prompt in my replies and general manager Dwayne is knowledgeable in resolving any unforeseen issues and knowledgeable with this product. The installation crew consisted of two skilled individuals that were skilled, efficient, punctual, and great at communicating with me. This was done during the return of my vacation, holidays of December and January. The total time from ordering to completion of my project was approximately six months. This included designing, permit pulling, submittals, fabrication, installation, and final city approval. Overall, I'm totally satisfied with my experience with Vergola and would recommend them for your custom patio.
