After I left my review of my (apparently isolated) negative experience, somebody contacted me from Mela to try and make things right. They apologized for this experience and owned it. Furthermore, they very generously gave me samples of some of the coffee I wanted to try the day I was not allowed to by the barista and offered to buy my next cup on my next visit. This is customer service at its finest. In life and business, you don't always win on the first try - but if you do the hard work of owning your mistakes and make it right, you'll do very well in the long run. Certainly, an East of East side Seattle coffee shop. Has that secluded edgy feeling, while trying to be perky and relevant in a post '90s world. But as I explain, it does well in this thematic. So yes, like, "Friends" if it was stuck in syndication a quarter of a century. Coffee, not much on differentiation, this is a rare case of investing in a drink at Starbucks, instead of spending more to get not more in the future, would be coming out ahead. Much like Nicholas Cage. Food stuffs pretty dry, not too original, and lack the creative ambition to do better. Like Adam Sandler. This is a pass for me, hold onto your wallet for 5 mins, there's a Dutch brothers coffee shop near by. read more

Good coffee and decent breakfast served by lazy hipster assholes. Honestly, really poor service from the three 19 year old folk singers running the place the day I walked in. The first guy asked me what I wanted, then proceeded to fire up the noisiest espresso machine ever invented while I was ordering. Got my order all wrong (because they couldn't hear it), laughed with each other about it when I asked about it, then brought my order to me 20 minutes after I ordered it. Two years ago I made a couple of really great visits to Mela. Good coffee and a nice vibe in Wenatchee. Lately one visit with really ho-hum coffee and another visit that didn't even deserve the two stars given above. A friend and I walked in for coffee about 3 on a Saturday. The cafe was quiet and nice. The customer before us picked up his coffee and left so I stepped to the counter to order. The barista looked at me and said without a shred of warmth - I'll be with you in a bit. Ok. So we stood there for a awhile til we realized he was just idly cleaning up. Then he went to the far end of the coffee bar about 15 feet away and took out a cleaning cloth and sort of wrung it out and preceded to wipe up here and there. I honestly couldn't figure it what was going on. We finally decided we should probably just leave. As we headed to the door I figured I should probably ask if we did something to make him not want to make coffee for us. He looked irritated and said he didn't know what I was talking about - he had to maintain health dept standards. Really?? Not in between the the other 6 customers there? We left. read more

Excellent coffee. However, staff doesn't greet enthusiastically, and took 10 mins to make a latte even though I was the only one there (too busy chatting with other employee & screwed up my order). Guy making my coffee kept running his fingers through his hair (gross). I love to support small & local businesses, but too many lukewarm experiences here. Sandwiches used to be awesome, now just overpriced grab n go w/o the yum factor they used to have. Maybe its better for dinner, but I will be getting my mochas n bites elsewhere. Sometimes, context is everything. If you're from the rarified worlds of Seattle or Portland, this place is going to be a middle of the road, pedestrian sort of affair (except that it's HUGE compared to most of the swank coffee places in those two towns...and it's view of Wenatchee Avenue is surprisingly picturesque). In Wenatchee? This place is a little slice of coffeehouse heaven on earth, a much needed oasis with the veneer of West Coast java vibe. The coffee's not bad, the baristas know their art, and the live music was surprisingly fresh and enjoyable. The lunch sandwiches aren't too bad either, and I commend their efforts to get locally sourced food products. In this case? Caffe Mela is a jewel. read more

The ambience is great. Coffee is fine. Not impressed with the service.i walked in at 3:30 and the girl working was sitting on the counter visiting with a friend. Finally when she noticed I was standing there she came over.i ordered and she was making it wrong so I had to tell her how my drink is normally made so she stopped and started again. Then I asked about the straws because they weren't filled up on the counter and when I went to leave a tip she grabbed the square plastic thing they use and started dumping out her tips on the counter. Then my thought was, " No dollars, only the $.35 change she gave me would be more than plenty for her. Maybe it was her nap time. read more

My career finds me in Wenatchee on a regular basis though my home is in Seattle Washington. Café Mela provides a Seattle level coffee experience which is to say exquisite. They roast their coffee on site and it is worth taking a bag to go. Also, the breakfast burrito is surprisingly tasty. read more

Great little coffee shop with a really good non-Hershey's mocha. Good latte's too. A fun place to just hang for a while and even pick up some beans locally roasted only a few days earlier. The one con is that the drinks could be a little inconsistent (the amount of chocolate in the mochas, for example). Being from Seattle it was great to find a good coffee out here. Year later update - the mochas are still good, and I had forgotten how good their locally roasted beans are. I wish I lived closer to buy their beans all the time. read more

This place is great! Never too busy to get a table, but not weirdly empty either. They make great coffee, have an awesome environment for hanging out, working, or whatever. A few tables out front, a cool interior, and did I mention good coffee? They roast it themselves around the corner and they know what a real macchiato is unlike the milkshakes with coffee in them you get at Starbucks or elsewhere. read more

I had both breakfast and dinner here over the course of a few days and while they do a great omelet and a crazy good latte, the dinner was a huge highlight. I love tapas-style dinners (small plates, variety of options) and this did not disappoint. LOVED the veggie sliders, seasonal vegetables the prawn/scallop dish. Great, friendly service (though they could've used an extra server or two -- but we didn't mind. We weren't in a hurry at all). Loved the live music. Overall, really great experience. Meh. This is supposed to be Wenatchee's best place to get coffee. That may be true. If so, then I just don't think Wenatchee has much to offer as far as coffee goes. Perhaps I'm a spoiled coffee snob. I had a mocha. The wait in line was ridiculous . Only one barista working on a Sunday afternoon and we waited about 15 minutes in line for drinks that were, IMHO, at best, average. The mocha was weak, and milky with very little cocoa. read more

Bland espresso (not strong) with a weird taste to it (I drink Americanos). Staff always seem underwhelmed with life (how is this possible when you work at a coffee shop?). Walking in -- it's dark, people are quiet (like library quiet)...and then the espresso is weak. Maybe it's just me -- but I like a bold espresso. I think bold is the point. I know Mela caters to a specific palette though...maybe the weaker espresso is *the thing* in Wenatchee? I feel like this place needs some freshening, some stronger coffee, some bright lights...some FUN. The baristas also need a skip in their steps -- and a song in their hearts -- clearly they aren't drinking enough coffee! ;) read more

Ran in here for a quick latte but didn't realize it was already their closing time! One of the baristas was super nice and let me in anyway to make me one last drink and I, of course, tipped anyway for the service. When I ran out with my latte, i took a quick sip and it was DELICIOUS. Perfectly foamy, and didn't taste burnt at all! 5 stars! read more

Loved the atmosphere. Good art, yummy muffins and fun games to play with. The coffee was inconsistent. I was nearby for a 2 day conference so visited for 4 cups of coffee. The first, a mocha, was so overchocolate-y I didn't finish it. My boyfriend loved his mocha which was appropriately chocolate-y. From there I got lattes. First one great, second one kind of watery, third one good again. I really loved the space and they certainly use good products, so I guess I should say the baristas can be inconsistent. read more

Hands down the best coffee. I pretty much drink their coffee every day, I haven't tried too much of the food because I always seem to be stocking up on coffee. The pastries do look wonderful though. If I don't end up with Mela in my cup I seriously miss it. I am so spoiled! I travel often and nothing quite compares. I highly recommend having your first cup in the cafe, the atmosphere is so relaxing and it's a gorgeous setup. There is free wifi for customers. read more

The ambiance is alright. Came here to study for upcoming tests and looked forward to getting lunch. Despite the store not mentioning it anywhere, apparently nothing is made on Sundays. No breakfast, lunch or dinner. Their menu says panini are served until 3 PM, breakfast until noon. That's apparently my true on Sunday. The coffee is nothing special either. Overall disappointing and I do not recommend coming on Sundays. I can't speak for other days since the reviews are all good. read more

When I am gone from town I compare all coffee roasters to Mela and usually find myself missing the quality that I've become accustomed to. The coffee quality and food quality is the best I've found. A great place to discuss business over a coffee or hang out and enjoy the free wifi. Outdoor seating was enjoyed this summer too and the remodel job has really opened up the site. The addition of the tapa menu, excellent food offerings and wine, cider and beer has made this a favorite place to grab a bite to eat and relax. The tapas are sized right and easy to share. We don't eat a lot and the mega-sized offerings at other restaurants are too much. Great people who take time to chat with customers and be engaged. Finally, like them on facebook and watch for the Tuesday Trivia to earn free tapas or half off drinks. read more
