I gave Mela an extra star because the food was very tasty and priced fairly. 2 stars because the front end experience was unfriendly as such that I felt bad for leaving my money here. The girl at the register with the tattoos and multi colored hair was visibly put off by my questions regarding coffee options. In some words I felt like she was trying to dissuade me from ordering coffee because "it's really busy right now and I don't even know if he'll have time to make that." "That" was in regards to a simple pour over. We got that figured out but not so much that I felt satisfied with my coffee consumption this morning. At another time during our stay this same employee was bussing tables and re arranging, and she actually moved a table at which a lady was actively eating her breakfast. I've read several other complaints about her on Yelp and am surprised that the owners of what otherwise seems to be a legit establishment keep her around. She must bring the good potluck items to employee parties. read more

It is a stretch to call Cafe Mela Artisan coffee. While they roast their own beans and have good equipment (la marzocco la strada espresso machine) they have not done proper cuppings of their roast or brew methods to allow for a truly artisan cup or shot of coffee. It was not horrible, but in comparison to other artisan cafés (barista, stumptown, victrola, etc) this does not hit the mark. Better than Bucks though. Had coffee and a scone here today. Scone was good and latte was average. This is one of the dirtiest establishments I've encountered in many years. Tables were dirty, wood floors were absolutely filthy (even globs of old gum left stuck in spots) and the carpeted area had disgusting carpeting that couldn't have been vacuumed in months, let alone shampooed. I came here with a co-worker because we wanted breakfast that didn't involve a drive-thru. The staff was friendly and greeted us when we came in. I got a breakfast burrito and orange juice. I was surprised when the person at the counter took out a premade burrito and put it in the microwave. When we sat down, the tables were dirty and the carpets were absolutely filthy (looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a very long time). The espresso drinks at Caffe Mela are some of the best in the state, and in North Central Washington, that's saying something. Live music Fridays, Saturdays and some weekdays, free wireless internet, and the place is stunningly beautiful. I go here at least once almost every day, I know the owners, and they are nice people. You know, this place USED to be GREAT...Maybe its just the complacency of knowing they are the best in town that has made them slump...I keep going back hoping that it will be the way I remember it, but no. Definitely not. I feel I've given them MORE than a fair shake, and now's the time to write a poor review... This is at LEAST the 3rd time in a row that I have gotten a poor coffee. As another reviewer put it, I'm sure the coffee itself is good, but the baristas may be to blame for the poor drink. (I have noticed that few if any of the originals are there, and they seem to have gone through a few employees...maybe this is to blame??) In any case, when you pay such ungodly high prices, you expect a really good cup of coffee....and that is NOT what I've gotten the past several times. To top this all off, knowing that their coffee is overly priced, I bought into a little promotion deal they were doing, and spent $10 for a $20 gift card...A good deal right?? At the VERY TOP of the voucher it says, QUOTE, "To use your voucher: 1. Go to one of the listed locations. 2. Present voucher when you arrive. 3. Enjoy yourself!" On the side it lists both their Wenatchee and East Wenatchee locations...So I go to the downtown Wenatchee location, like I always do...I order my expensive drink and a cookie and present my voucher, only to be awkwardly apologized to because I have to take it to the E.W. location. Seeing as I live out of town, and work in downtown Wenatchee, and don't drive...I simply dont go to East Wenatchee....Having politely sad that, I was told sorry again, and had to buy my stuff with MORE money, even though I had already spent $10... on a voucher I cant use without a LOT of hassle. Having been in the service industry for quite some time, this seems like a very simple issue to remedy...But I was not offered ANY sort of compromise what-so-ever...and left with my $7 latte and cookie. Unfortunately I am just plain disappointed. I used to really enjoy Cafe Mela...but now after several poor drink/food/service experiences, and the high cost, I just wont be going back. read more

Nice staff, good coffee. But the hours of operation are totally unrealiable. Beware of going there on a Sunday. Plan on them short-staffed and out of food, if they are open at all. Also, the place is pretty dirty upon closer look around. Needs a major house-cleaning. I'd hate to see what the kitchen looks like. I hear the owner plays a mean sax, but he's must be out to lunch because he's losing customers, including loyal ones who have been going there for years like us. Why we keep returning beats me. It's only for the coffee and the nice staff, but not much else. I'm sure if we had a good alternative downtown, cafe mela would lose even more business. read more

After moving back to Wenatchee it is wonderful to see a local coffee roaster that is actually really good. I love going into the Cafe to study but one of the baristas always seems to glare at me when I order a pour over. I love trying each roast and pour overs are my favorite but they always seem so discouraged about making me one. One barista with beautiful colored hair and tattoos always just seems to be mad or upset when I order really anything. Over all great coffee roaster and shop. read more

The consistent quality of caffe mela is unrivaled in the greater Wenatchee Valley. Although their 'traditional' Italian cappuccinos seem more like lattes, I'll forgive them this single fault for a wealth of other merits, from exquisite roasting, to the staff who I'm fairly sure are sunshine incarnate. I have mixed feelings about Caffe Mela. On the plus side, it's one of the only coffee shops downtown (if not the only coffee shop?) where you can get decent coffee and sit and drink it. The building itself is nice and fairly roomy with some tables in the front where you can sit and look out the window at people passing by on the sidewalk. The pastries are pretty good, also, and I believe are made there from scratch. The prices are reasonable. On the minus side, the atmosphere there is unbelievable pretentious. The staff behind the counter are usually younger, college aged kids and are so snobby it's actually laughable but it's also very unpleasant to deal with. They are very immature and I have seen them actually laughing at customers they were serving right to their faces. They also do not care about cleanliness or sanitation while doing their jobs. They continue to prepare the food and drinks after handling money or even the trash without washing their hands first. If they could replace their staff with friendly, cleaner, more down-to-earth people, I'd give it a 4 or 5 star rating. Only other thing I think they could improve is to expand the breakfast and lunch menu a little bit and make good, wholesome food there instead of using the prepackaged stuff they have now. read more
