The office is clean and pleasant. The front desk staff is friendly, efficient and helpful. Dr. Schalng-Richardson is kind, knowledgeable and confident in a way that put me at ease. She was perfectly transparent in explaining her logic in deciphering my dental dilemma and answered all my questions. I recommend this office wholeheartedly. GET A LOAD OF THIS. Nice office, hygienist is the best in the world. I used delta dental and the co-pay is no many dollars. On the first visit, they charged me over $360 claiming they had to use special liquids, etc. because of covid. I closed my eyes to it. The second cleaning they charged 160. Again, I didn't fight. I choose my battles. I made it clear that I would not come back in 3 months for the 3rd as the hygienist told me that for the $70 I am getting a small amount of mouthwash which the prescription price was $10. Then the receptionist and hygienist said it would be okay and then I could come back for the cleaning only which was free. A few days before the appointment they informed me that it was $160. I cancelled the appointment and switched dentists. She called me and said that she has to do what she has to do during covid so she is in the write. If this were true the high priced mouthwash would have been used before the hygienist worked on my mouth. She isn't good with excuses as it continues here. First, she said I needed to go to the oral surgeon immediately to pull 2 front teeth. (This would have meant implants). Later I told her I wanted a referral to the endodontist to see if I need root canals. She fought with me for the referrals claiming that if I have root canals, she would have problems pulling the teeth later. WHAT A JOKE. She originally said I need an oral surgeon, and many teeth are pulled after root canals, and the root canals should prevent them from being pulled. IN ACTUALITY, she finally gave me the referrals, and the root canal doctor said that the roots are fine. (He did say, that eventually the two teeth would need to come out, but it could be a long time. No one can tell exactly when. But, it has now been 9 months--not a need to have an oral surgeon come in right away. BUT AGAIN, IF YOU WISH TO GO TO A NICELY DESIGNED DENTAL OFFICE IN SANTA MONICA, YOU WILL FIND IT THERE. read more

I really enjoy going to Wilshire Dental to see Dr. Schlang. She's always really friendly and make me feel comfortable, even during the super fun deep cleaning moments. Do not walk, but run from this office!!!!! They told me I had multiple cavities and needed about $1,700 worth of work done (which seemed pretty odd to me as I didn't have any pain or major issues going into the office, but was going in for a cleaning). Upon the consultation of another dentist, I was told none of it needed to be done and they didn't see any of the cavities that Dr. Schlang's office claimed I needed. On top of this, the office charged close to double what my co-pay should have been for the visit (which when I asked in the office because it seemed high, I was told "No that is what your co-pay is"). Upon contacting my insurance company, they contacted the office and told them they needed to refund me the overcharged amount... and now OVER 3 MONTHS later I am having to chase down the refund for an amount that should not have been charged in the first place. This is the worst experience I have ever had with any medical professional (and I use the word very loosely in this case). I have heard about doctors charging for work that does not need to be done and trying to get as much money out of their patients as possible. After this experience, I actually will start to be quite cautious when visiting any medical professional. It is too bad that one has to feel this way about someone you should be able to go to with trust. I am actually currently seeking legal ramifications for this process which is crazy that it would have to go this far. read more

I bought a discount Groupon coupon to get a exam cleaning and x-ray from Dr. Schlang. After waiting 40 minutes to see the technician, I got x-rays. 15 minutes after sitting in the dental chair waiting for Dr. Schlang she comes in for examination.After giving her assistant comments to write down, leaves to see someone else. The assistant tells me a couple minor things that need to be done to my teeth but nothing major. She then started on the "upsell" to deep-cleaning. She explains to me "even though you do not have periodontal disease you need deep cleaning." I asked her if I could just get the cleaning that is listed on the coupon since that is all I really came in for -and she said no "it will cost $50 per quadrant to do your deep cleaning". Dr, Schlang came in and I asked her if I can just get cleaned, she stuttered then hesitated as if looking for a reason why she couldn't. It was the old bait and switch. They kept asking about insurance too which was odd. A waste of money & time. read more

All I can say is I'm glad I didn't read the previous reviews before I came in as I had a very pleasant experience and that's at the dentist. Who has that? I was on an afternoon walk when I came upon Dr. Melanie's office, walked in and scheduled an appointment to have an exam. I initially wanted additional veneers done and had noticed they had a feature on those at a very reasonable price. It was suggested that I come in for a consultation which I did for a week later. It was free as I recall. It was then suggested that I have x-ray and a deep cleaning. That was scheduled for another day. When I returned for the cleaning I admit I was nervous but my dental fears were allayed. I felt no pain whatsoever and the cleaning was very painless, with no shots!! After the x-rays were taken I was given the choice to come back again another day (I was a bit nervous) and do the cleaning then, or not! I'd just be charged $50 for the x-rays. Josephine (the hygienist) was extremely caring and thoughtful and was actually pleased to be doing her job. That's not always the case. After a consultation with Dr. Melanie, it was suggested that I get certain work done before getting additional veneers. At no time did I feel I was being up-sold. At no time was anyone insistent on anything. I had an overall pleasant experience and I am actually looking forward to returning to Dr. Melanie for those veneers in the near future. Very few people right great reviews about a dentist, I realize. I would ignore these other two reviews as none of them refer to the type of thorough service or cleaning that I received. I trust her good dental work, and also importantly for a reasonable cost - in the past she quoted me a much better cost for cavity that another dentist told me I had...but that dentist was not good and when we did the check up, my teeth were fine! DO NOT GO HERE. DO NOT BOTHER USING YOUR GROUPON COUPON. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. I purchased a Groupon coupon, and waded through the website for this Dentist which you have to do to make an appointment. During the registration procedure, I noticed that the website says that they may not clean your teeth on the first visit "if you have periodontal disease", an old trick used by disreputable unethical Dentists to add on costs and services which you likely do not need, or at least should be able to opt out of. I received their emailed confirmation with instructions on how to make an appointment, and called the office to schedule my xrays, exam, and cleaning which is what the Groupon coupon stated. I told the receptionist that I wanted ALL the services I paid for ON ONE VISIT, and that I was not going to come back a second time for a cleaning, since a "deep cleaning" is a separate service which I may or may not want to have done, and may or may not want to have done THERE, by that Dentist. The person argued with me and became very dictatorial. I said, "Just make a note in your calendar that I want all services in one sitting or I want a refund - one or the other - because I'm not wasting my time with two visits." The following morning, I get a nasty call from some woman with a bad accent claiming to be the Office Manager for this hot bed of scam artists. She said that I cannot dictate my own services that I'm going to receive and thus my appointment was canceled. Someone - the Dental Board, Groupon, or one of the multitude of Consumer Advocacy Groups - needs to pay these people an enlightening visit to remind them that this is not a Communist Country where we have little choice or say over our own medical services or preferences. It's clear to me that this organization, and the whole lot of them that are aligned with "SMILE GPS" are nothing but upselling, scamming, extorting con artists that are not in business to provide services, but are in business to hijack your wallet and your peace of mind. Consider using a Veterinarian in lieu of these losers. BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD!! read more
