I don't get here near as often as I'd like, but visiting Mela's Bakery is always such a treat. There's unique food I can only get here - the empanadas are a MUST, and of course all the bakery items are fantastic and delicious. There's a nice little seating area and it's bright and homey to sit in and enjoy your items. My kids are always thrilled to go because they get special attention. I think this place is a real gem in Winder and I'm thrilled it's gotten the business it needs to keep going! Today my husband ran to get us the special, Cachapas, which was absolutely phenomenal. So delicious, so flavorful! I love that there's a special exclusive item every now and then.

Discovered this gem while looking for a coffee shop nearby. Greeted with excellent customer service and the smell of the establishment made me crave for baked bread and sweet goods. I purchased a hot caramel macchiato and my daughter had the iced. I also couldn't resist and got the danish (apple and blueberry) along with a chicken empanada! I'm a huge "support local establishment" fan so I definitely will add this to one of my rare finds in Winder, Ga!

This was my first time at Melas Bakery. I've lived in Winder for a few years now and never knew it was here. I'm so happy I came by because Betsy was the nicest, sweetest person ever! Her shop is so cute and welcoming! The kids had the ham & cheese which was delicious. I had the chicken empanada which was great! We also had a variety of sweets and none of them disappointed. I will be going back of course, definitely with friends to help spread the word!

I'd had this shop marked in places I wanted to try so we decided to check it out. It's tucked away on a little side street, we just about missed it. The lady behind the counter, perhaps the owner, is so sweet! We felt so welcome! And these treats are made with love! From cookies to cakes and a few other sweet treats, she had quite the selection! I was tugged towards the pound cake, or maybe the chocolate layer cake or the pineapple cake but then I saw my Momma's favorite, Italian Cream Cake! It was always so hard to find (and a pain to make) so when I saw that in the display I knew that's the one I had to try. I have no regrets. It's a perfectly balanced cake with the right amount of frosting and mix-ins such as nuts and coconut. It's perfectly sweet and moist. When someone says they want Italian cream cake, this is what they want! Now I know where to go to order my cakes as just from this slice, I can tell this is the spot. A hidden gem in Winder, if you're not getting your cakes here, you are missing out. You gotta check it out!

But then there is Doughnut World, this small little hole in the wall going into downtown Winder that we had passed the strip mall it's tucked in several times but didn't pay it any mind because we weren't looking for breakfast or donuts so didn't think much of it. But yesterday we were so we popped in here to check it out. They have a great variety of all the ones you expect (glazed, Boston cream, etc) plus some features like Fresh Strawberries & Cream and Dubai Chocolate Cronuts which are double stacked donuts with filling in the middle, like donut sandwiches. I cannot speak highly enough of the pillowy perfection of the donuts themselves. They have just enough sweetness but not overbearing and they aren't dense like Dunkin or air like Krispy Kreme that just disappears in your mouth. Don't get me wrong, I like both but the donuts at Doughnut World are in a league of their own. They aren't cakey, and they aren't like puff pastry, they are fluffy with just the right balance of soft to dense. It's hard to explain. You just gotta try for yourself. If I had to choose the perfect donut, this is it. We bought a half dozen to try: glazed (of course), two Boston creams, because of course (to which my cousin remarked that's the best she'd ever had), lemon, strawberry or raspberry (I just pointed and said "that one" lol) not sure but it was delicious, and a caramel with bacon? More labels in the display case would certainly help and if the owner reads this I do advise for this reason. The star of the show was the Strawberries and Cream Cronut without a doubt. It was perfection and I would go back just for this. It was the perfect balance of donut, strawberry and cream in which each flavor and texture came through into such a delicate and delicious treat! We did try a kolache that the pastry was perfect but I didn't care much for the filling, just personal preference. It was fine but just not my thing. I was there for the sweets! I'm glad I tried it but I would opt for a different savory pastry next time. We didn't order any drinks but they have a nice variety of teas and here you can get all the variety of like matcha, boba, Thai, chai, etc that are all the rage these days so I'll have to give some of those in future visits. If you haven't checked this place out you won't be disappointed. The lady working behind the counter was super sweet and helpful and even tossed in a few donut holes for us. As we were walking out the people were pouring in from the parking lot so I don't think this place is a secret, perhaps more of a little hidden gem right on the little outskirts of downtown Winder.

That's the best part of supporting local business and getting fantastic homemade ice cream !! I highly recommend the turtle sundae and the bourbon butterscotch and the mint chocolate chip and the peanut butter with hot fudge on top!! Those are my recommendations . Service is fast , the place is very clean and with the 50s style atmosphere it's a great place to be on a Saturday night with your family celebrating birthdays, bar mitzvahs, anniversary's. Or a date night with your loved one!! My son got cookie dough, his favorite, and said "it was the best cookie dough I've ever had in my life." So much so that he went and gave the ladies at the counter a hug lol. I got chocolate trinity and bourbon butterscotch. The butterscotch is not a flavor I would normally try but it was so rich and creamy. I love that they have a lot of flavors (over 15), some dairy free options and lots of different options for cones (traditional cone, waffle cone, waffle cone dipped in chocolate/with sprinkles, gummy bear cones, maple waffle, chocolate waffle and waffle bowls!). The space itself is set up live a vintage ice cream parlor with tiled floor, booths, blue and pink decor and vintage black and white posters. Really cute! And to top it all off for a kids scoop and two double scoops with waffle cones, it was only $22. Amazing for today's prices! They also sell baked good, banana splits and milkshakes!
