Very cool speakeasy vibe in the Crossroads! If you're looking for a place with well drinks and…read morepitchers of beer, then this is *not* your place. No, Swordfish Tom's is only serving up handcrafted cocktails, and generally off of their particularly killer menu. Drinks are artisanal, they take a little extra time to prepare, and they are absolutely smashing! Owner Jill has all the talents with both mixology and design and the unique taste comes through each time. Hoist your drink and find a comfy seat, or maybe a dimly lit corner table just for two. Just know that it is CASH ONLY (and there is an ATM on site) and the drinks will run you upwards of $15 or so. Each one is very well worth it, and you're there for a specific ambience, so pony up and enjoy. If you don't know that the entrance is in the alley off of 19th, then you will miss it altogether. Great space, great atmosphere, and outstanding cocktails.

The bar is downstairs and a speakeasy feel, with the entrance being in an alley. It feels hidden! There are paintings of nautical creatures/ animals on the walls as you're entering. The space itself is smaller, and from what I've been told they do a great job on regulating crowd size with their wait area. They have very specific craft cocktails. While they didn't have a traditional dirty martini that I enjoy, the bartender recommended something and offered to remake it for me if I didn't enjoy it. It's a really unique space that anyone would enjoy- definitely check it out.

I was thrilled to return to Bamboo Penny's. This was the site of my first Yelp Elite Event in KC…read more So I was nostalgic. My wife and I met our friends here for an early dinner at 4:45 PM before a 6 PM showing of the Odyssey at the IMAX across the street. We were seated promptly upon arrival in the upstairs where it was a little warm because it was so hot outside, but they had the fans and the AC going and it cooled off as we sat there. The theater ended up being much hotter. Ha! We started with spring rolls and grilled chicken dumplings. I ordered the combo Pad Kee Mao () with beef, pork and chicken. My wife doesn't eat much so we shared it. And it was plenty for two people, especially after the appetizers. My friend Dave had the mango duck, which was very tasty as he was kind enough to share a bite with me. His wife ordered the cashew chicken, which she raved about. It was their first time at Bamboo Penny's, my wife's too. Everyone loved it and said they would love to return. Just the final note, the four of us dining several times together at Aqua Penny's, which used to be diagonally across the street and has now permanently closed. It was a glorious restaurant with a wonderful oyster bar and an incredible staff. We will miss it very much. I'm sorry it didn't work out for Penny and her husband, the owners.
