Dr. Ramaswami has done a few fillings and a crown on my daughter's teeth. She explains everything to my daughter that she's doing. And if I have any questions while she's working she'll explain it to me. When my daughter would start moving around or not doing what she needed to do Dr. Ramaswami would firmly, but kindly talk to my daughter. The dental hygentist my daughter normally sees (I forget his name). He talks to her about what he's doing in terms she can understand. He ends up making her laugh. Their policy is children 3 and under must be separated from their parents. I have no problem with this idea/my child has no problem with separation. When/if children become uncooperative they come out and reassure parents that the restraint are going to put your child in would not hurt and they get parents to sign a waiver. What they don't say is the deep emotional trauma that such a restraint and proceeding procedures cause. If children are getting to that point, and they don't allow parents to evaluate the situation for themselves, they clearly are not that good with children in the first place. My child was restrained and still (6 months later) has nightmares about being held down tight and who knows what else happened (I wasn't in there, after all, to know). Moving forward, I thought maybe my child would agree to the 6 month checkup. Dental care is important, right? Not interested at all as my child was terrified from the first dentist encounter. Started a melt down. Calling to cancel the appointment, I was told that we would be charged $50 for changing the appointment within 24 hours. Well, the only reason I wanted to cancel the appointment was due to the trauma/abuse my child received the first time so I asked if I could go back in with my child. I was told absolutely not. When I pressed the issue of the suspicion of abuse, I was told the doctor didn't want my child to be one of his patients after all. Good riddance. Stay away!

This is why I felt so betrayed when his associate, Dr. Baker, supposedly a "pediatric dentist" burst into the exam room and launched a violent verbal assault at my teenage daughter for unexplained reasons. He screamed at her at the top of his lungs "Are you a BABY?!? You need your MOMMY in here with you?!? I have 4 year old patients who are less scared than YOU!". It went on and on. She was sobbing and shaking and he was so loud that the receptionist came running. I still can't comprehend what triggered this, I guess he was personally offended that she was very anxious and scared. I had told the receptionist that she was not only very anxious/dealing with PTSD from prior difficult medical experiences, but that she was also very self-conscious and ashamed because of this, so she would cope best if they just go on with things and don't don't draw any extra attention to it. I don't know what she then said to HIM or what he heard in response, but his response was the most unhinged and unprofessional behavior I have ever witnessed. The receptionists and hygienists were mortified and apologized profusely for his behavior. Office manager (Dr. Valley's wife) offered a bland, profesionally distanced bit of nothing. Dr. Valley said nothing, did nothing, never called us for any kind of a debriefing, apology or to check on my daughter. I expected more from him. His silence told me all I need to know. The next dentist we saw reviewed the records, and their professional opinion was that what they were calling cavities were not, and she did not need the fillings.
