The mellow mushroom is a unique pizzeria. First, the physical dining room is very colorful and bright, as are the menu and the dishes displayed on it. I've tried many pizzas from the mellow mushroom, and while they are smaller than typical chain pizzas, they make up for it in flavor and toppings. The mushroom pizza was really cheesy, but the caramelized onions were oddly sweet. This made for an off-putting taste, but ultimately, not too shabby. The cheese pizza was also yummy, but I didn't realize that the cheese bread came with pepperoni (was going to split with my girlfriend, who is a vegetarian). That kinda ruined the plan! I'd been to mellow mushroom before, but not this location. They have plenty of vegan options but there are no clear markers on the menu (the v stands for vegetarian) so I do wish they'd add those. Previously I'd gotten a vegan pizza and the value for the $$ just wasn't worth it. This time I got the tofu hoagie and at $8.99 for a whole hoagie with a small bag of chips, the value is something I can get behind. Get it without cheese and mayo and it's a wonderful vegan version of a cheese steak! Very filling and delicious (but salty so watch out if you're not into that). A theme, good food, good service, and good atmosphere. I want to start with the theme, as it holds a lot of value. The theme is based off getting high and being mellow, and while this might seem crude, it does truly work for a pizza place. The food too, I mean I haven't had everything on the menu but what I did have was definitely worth the money. The service was very nice and very fast, she took care of us and made sure we were never waiting for too long. The first decent gluten-free pizza I've ever had. The pizza was chewy and delicious while the crust had the perfect consistency and crunch!

The pizza at this mellow mushroom location was on par with other locations i've tried--pretty good. Despite this, the atmosphere was not pleasant. Upon arriving, my friends and I waited around while several servers passed us without helping us to a table. We then waited for 30+ minutes for our food. When the food arrived, we had no silverware or napkins and had to chase a waiter to get these. The restaurant was poorly managed and not very clean. I would probably still return though. Admittedly, I had high expectations coming in. When I was younger, my family lived by a Mellow Mushroom and I loved going there. Then we moved away and I've been craving it ever since. The pizza is pretty good. It's a great crust with the right amount of sauce and cheese. It's just a bit on the expensive side. It's not a huge issue, but it should've noted. The big issue was the service. It was horrid. You seat yourself and then you just wait until someone shows up. You won't see that person again for quite a while. Once you order your pizza, you won't see see them again until you get your pizza. Drink refills? Pretty much nonexistent. Trying to get your check so you can pay and leave? Better wave someone else down who wasn't even your server. It's a shame that the service hampered what is otherwise a good pizza place. read more

We went for dinner on a Friday evening. We walked in and got a table with no problem but school is out and that may not be the case when school is in. Parking is not easy in this section but we got in a parking garage for a reasonable price. They have a lot of beer on tap and bottle but we skipped alcohol this time We had a Greek salad and a large mighty meat pizza. Service was quick and efficient. Both the salad and the pizza were very good. It is a noisy place so it can be a little hard to hear each other during dinner. This is a chain and we have eaten at one of these in Richmond VA. With ham, bacon, caramelized onions, jalapeños, and pineapple, the complexity of flavor you get with every slice is unparalleled. I have a deep love for thin crust pizza, especially when I make my own, but mellow's crust is tasty and chewy and they season it up very well. One of my favorites from Mellow Mushroom is always the Holy Shiitake, and I believe that this location does it the best! Compared to both Richmond locations, this restaurant is always fast with service and the quality never varies. The pizza with thin crust is the best, since there is not so much dough/crust that it overpowers the mushrooms and the sauce. I also think the price is definitely worth it, especially for university students. I love Mellow Mushroom. It is easily one of the most consistently good pizza chains in America. I first discovered the chain at this Cville location over 8 years ago. Since then I've eaten at Mellow mushrooms in many different states and cities. With only a couple exceptions here and there (i'm looking at you Montgomery, Alabama) the quality is always very good. I am pleased to say that the Cville location continues to maintain its high quality. Another thing i love about this particular chain is despite having been in at least 8 different establishments, they all have their own unique look and vibe. While always a little bit on the hipster side, they each have their own unique personality and theme which i think is super cool. This mellow mushroom can get busy on the weekends but you can often sneak in to grab a spot at the bar if you are solo. I love their pizzas but you also really can't go wrong with the pretzels and garlic knots. I usually rotate between the buffalo chicken pizza (personal size is more than enough for me), the kosmic karma, or the holy shitake (add meatballs!). read more
