The decor/ambiance in this particular store is a bit lacking and I am sure parking in the area is horrible on weekend/event nights (it wasn't great at 3 on a Saturday). And there were no straws....boo. HOWEVER-- The food was great. Wild in Havana is SO good, and I can't comment for sure on the rest, but my dining companions had Buffalo chicken, great white, some sort of Hawaiian thing, as well as a couple kids meals. Everyone was full and happy. The price isn't cheap but not the worst, and service was pretty good. If we got straws, it would have been great . I'd go back. I hope I get to! read more

As a chain, Mellow Mushroom serves surprisingly good pizza, with fresh toppings and great portions. I highly recommend any of their speciality pies, but have grown to love (and crave) their holy shitake pie. The pizza comes with a garlic and olive oil base, three varieties of mushrooms, and a creamy truffle crema swirled on top. The crispy, salty crust is cooked perfectly and complements the creamier notes of the dish. I've also had the Funky Q and regular italian sausage pizza. Both had great flavor and ingredients. If you are looking for a starter, I've ordered the garlic knots a couple of times and thoroughly enjoy the salty, garlicky flavor right out the oven. Basically, you can't go wrong at Mellow, whether you're looking for a heavier meal or even one of their fresh salads. All-in-all great food, but watch out for the food coma. Mellow Mushroom also has a killer trivia night, asking themed questions, and serving pizzas throughout the night. Pint night is on Tuesdays, offering great drink specials, which attracts many students. The ambiance is incredible, but I'd advise getting there early for both events; these tend to be popular and fill up quickly. read more

I ordered from their website on Saturday night for delivery. 6:17om said it would be delivered by 7:05. They transferred it to door dash. At 7:05 I called to check on it. The guy told me next time I should use uber eats. Srsly? It didn't give me a choice it was their website. The ipad for orders was rebooting so he said this other person, I think it was Emma, would call me back. She called at 7:15 said I just handed it off to the driver and you need to co tact door dash. Um... how do I do that since you contracted them. It finally showed up at 7:28pm, totally cold. Big waste of $55. read more

We had an exceptional experience at Mellow Mushroom tonight. As usual, the food was fresh, tasty and hit the spot. But there was a small problem with our takeout order, and the manager, Chris, went out of his way to more than make it right-- despite the fact, that I must admit I was a bit of a jerk about it--Sorry, Chris! His professionalism and generosity was a reminder to treat everyone with patience and respect. I usually don't eat pizza but this place was pretty good! Located right next to the University of Virginia campus, this restaurant serves up some crazy pizza combinations. However, their pizza dough was the most memorable. It's very soft, chewy, and seasoned perfectly! For appetizers, my friends and I shared their pretzels (and I usually don't like pretzels either) but these were so good! They were topped with garlic butter and parmesan cheese and the beer cheese dip on the side was amazing. Pro tip: save the leftover cheese to dip your pizza crusts into! We got the Loaded Potato Pizza (medium $19) which contained sliced roasted red potatoes, applewood smoked bacon, caramelized onions, cheddar and mozzarella. It was drizzled with sour cream and spicy ranch dressing and I was full after one slice! We also tried the Funky Q Chicken pizza (small $12), which is basically a BBQ Chicken pizza with mozzarella and cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, and Applewood smoked bacon. I liked the Loaded Potato one better because it was unique and had more flavors to it! Service here is fantastic and the waiters will replace your waters frequently, which was much needed since the food was a tad bit too salty. The portions are large and the three of us could only finish half of each pizza! Since this restaurant is located right next to campus, there will be a lot of college students but we also saw a lot of families. Coming from the west coast, I didn't know this place was a chain restaurant, but I think it is definitely better than a lot of other pizza chains. read more

This place always fulfills my pizza cravings! I'm a big fan of Mellow Mushroom because it has a great variety of pizzas and the quality of the food is consistent. I also love the atmosphere of the restaurant. It has a great ambiance- very casual and relaxing. It's a great place to catch up with friends and just have a good time with good food. My favorite pizzas are the Funky Q. Chicken, Mellowterranean, Holy Shiitake Pie, and the Magical Mystery Tour. These pizzas take my breath away. They are so so good. These pizzas have toppings that complement each other perfectly and the sauce is just icing on the cake. Trust me, you've never had pizza this good. In addition, the crust and dough of the pizza is cooked to perfection. It's soft, chewy, yet it has a nice crunch. Overall, this place is great for big groups! It's super crowded on pint nights and trivia nights so get there early. read more

We decided to try out this pizza chain while visiting Charlottesville and we are glad we did! The space is really cool with outdoor seating, booth and table seating right as you walk in, more booth and table seating next to the oven and bar. The waitress we had was so nice and the service was spectacular! We got two pizzas, the Kosmic Karma with mushrooms added and a Create Your Own (red sauce, chicken, peppers and spinach). The Kosmic Karma was delicious and had so much flavor! The Parmesan crust was to die for! The chicken pizza was a healthier pizza and they executed it perfectly! I don't get it. I really don't. What's with the hype? I came here with my group and shared three different pizzas, all of which I had to further cut into slices on my own. No customer should have to work so hard for their food! ahaha. But I guess we could have asked the waitress for a pizza cutter or something. HOWEVER I don't think that would have been a good idea. Service was HORRIBLE. It took us a while to get seated and the waitress was super brusque. She was rude, didn't even smile once or talk to us, and disappeared for lengths of time (and we were even sitting directly in front of the kitchen entrance). When she dropped off our checks, she did so directly in giant puddles of water on the table. Awesome soggy checks. The pizza was ok. Slices were small but hearty. We ordered the: Mighty Meat --- unexpectedly awesome even though I didn't want to order it Hawaiian --- Too SOGGY and too sweet. I think they poured the canned pineapple juice in there as well as the pineapples. Does not go well with the cheese. Caesar --- pretty good even for just being pizza with salad piled up in the middle. Wish it were easier to eat/serve. Anyways, I think Christians has better pizza for the price. Not the best pizza, but definitely tasty. The dough is really good and I found myself finishing all of it, which is unusual. They have lots of unique options for pizza, which is good. The holy shiitake is delicious, although I think they could go a little lighter on the swirl of sauce on top (maybe serve it on the side). The maui wowie is already good, the banana peppers balance out the pineapple (which I usually dislike on my pizza). Also love pesto. They were super busy (friday night), but takeout only took 20 minutes. Would come again to try other pies. read more

We had a HUGE school event and were able have them set aside a couple tables while we were on our way, even though they don't take reservations, and pre-order our pizzas so they came out just a few minutes after our arrival. I'm sure it helped that it was the last Sunday of UVa's spring break and fairly empty, but we were very appreciative nonetheless. Their crust is really well done, soft but with a great crunch. I am a big fan of Mellow Mushroom the franchise, but this one was just OK. Firstly, this location does not offer the Thai chicken curry pizza which is a personal favorite. On the whole I felt like there were fewer of the specialty pizza options than I had found at other locations. Secondly, the service was pretty slow. We were one of maybe 7 or 8 tables and they had at least 3 servers and it took what felt like forever for them to take our order. The pizza and pretzels were both good, up to the usual standards of the chain and the Greek salad was also enjoyable but the service and lack of expected options gets this it's score. This is the fifth Mellow Mushroom I've visited. I guess I should have known they don't do 'pizza by the slice' except for during lunch...but...somehow that one slipped by me. All of these restaurants are unique, yet the quality is consistent. The Might Meaty, is just that! The small is plenty for one person with an appetite. You might even have some left for breakfast. Had to be in C'Ville for a thing.. all I wanted was a coupla slices but hey, for $8 bucks, I splurged. You can sit outside and enjoy the UVa atmosphere, they have a few tables with shade but sits beside a busy thoroughfare so you might enjoy people watching in this college town. While Mellow Mushroom isn't the best option for pizza in Cville, I'd say it comes in a close second. I have never lived in a place with a Mellow Mushroom, but now that I've been, I can see why there is so much hype. I prefer to go to local places, but that hasn't stopped me from enjoying it on a few occasions. I've gotten carryout pizza and dined in once. It is normally really crowded on the weekend, but not so bad that you have to wait a very long time for a table. I have tried the Mega Veggie without tofu and the Holy Shiitake Pie. Both pizzas were awesome! Their large Greek salad is enough for two-three people to share. read more

I love when you get to try as much of a menu as you can...and with a group of 7 you get to try a variety of things! We have been to the one in NC a few times and have always had a great experience. Today, in Charlottesville we didn't have that at all. My husband's pizza came out the same time as our salads and appetizer but then my daughter's pizza came out another 5 mins after that. Then, my son had to wait an additional fifteen mins (after our food came out) and mentioning it twice to our waitress in order to finally get his food. We had already finished our meal before he even got his. She tried to give us a credit card of someone else that she had checked out at a different table. We had to ask numerous people in order to get a refill on our soda. Check out took another 10 mins too. All in all the food was good, but not worth the wait at all and the hassle. I had to settle for a paid parking ($5.00 for two hours) just to check out the place. Mellow mushroom is my favorite place for pizza in Cville! Not just pizza, but pretty good craft beer selection, huge menu of pizza, salads, or pasta choices, and an even cooler atmosphere. Who wouldn't want to eat a delicious meal surrounded by bright colorful paintings and sights to see? I had the Cosmic Karma pizza, which is one of their best. Tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, sundried tomatoes, pesto sauce swirled on top, simply delicious! And the crust is amazing with the Parmesan sprinkles all over it. My friend had the Mellowtereanean pizza (like a Greek pizza) which looked really good, especially with the large side of tzatziki sauce. My other friend got the Red Skinned Potato pizza which was so different but so amazing! I loved it, tasted like a loaded baked potato on a pizza! That was very unique, filling, but so delicious. The only food I didn't like was the cheesy bread appetizer with olive spread, had waaay too many olives, it overtook the dish. I normally like olives, but on this app, it was too much. Overall, one of my favorite places in Cville for a chill meal with great atmosphere. Not only me, but all my friends love it here too. Its becoming our Cville tradition! Such a cool place. read more

Pizza is by far my favorite food, and with numerous pizza places on the corner, I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I haven't tried Mellow Mushroom until now. I came here for my friend's birthday yesterday. Upon careful discussion of its extensive menu, we finally settled on ordering two large pizzas for the eight of us--one cheese and one Holy Shitake. The large pizzas have eight slices each, so we decided that we would be satisfied with two slices per person. When the pizzas came out, we grabbed a slice from each pizza. Upon looking at my plate, I thought that the two slices of thin-crust pizza might not be enough for my hungry stomach, but they were surprisingly filling and we all left the restaurant stuffed. The cheese pizza was good and everything you'd expect a cheese pizza to be. Thin, crispy crust, with gooey, melty cheese, that always comes fresh out of the oven and hot enough to burn the roof of your mouth. The holy shitake pizza was DELICIOUS, especially if you are a mushroom lover like I am. The assorted mushrooms were juicy and flavorful and the white, garlicky sauce spiraled on top added a nice zing to the pizza as well. In general, I noticed that the pizzas at Mellow had a bit more crust than the pizzas at Christian's, so if you really don't like the crust at the edge of the pizza, that's something to take note of. We ended up paying $7 each including tax and tip, which I thought was an amazing deal and might even been cheaper than Christian's So does Mellow Mushroom dethrone Christian's as my favorite pizza place on the corner? I'm not sure. Perhaps they're tied, but they're definitely good for different things. Mellow is great if you want a sit-down restaurant, a wider selection of pizzas, and other menu options for people who aren't huge fans of pizza. Christian's is great for that quick, late-night pizza snack. I definitely see myself coming to Mellow in the future. Fortunately, Mellow is a chain restaurant and the nearest location to me at home just opened up only 3 miles away. I got lucky! read more

Really friendly atmosphere and how skinny the wait staff is is encouraging about eating and not feeling guilty

We were looking for a good pizza joint for dinner and decided to check this place out. Of course had to start out with beer, and I was pleasantly surprised by their beer selection. Off to a good start. We then ordered jerk chicken wings and the House Special pizza to share, and I have to say, they were both delicious. Their wings offered a good kick at the end of each bite without being too overpowering and the pizza had such a generous portion of toppings. Topped these off with another beer and well, it was a perfect end to the night. read more

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. Beer selections are great, pizza dough/crust is delicious (definitely not for you if you like thin crust-type pizza), and some creative toppings. Place obviously gets loud, so be careful about luggin the family there later in the evening. You can barely see/hear in there. Some pizzas can be slightly greasy/oily, but don't be surprised if that's the case when your toppings include pesto, because that's supposed to have oil. And I don't see how people are comparing Mellow's pizza to NY-style pizza, because they are two completely different beasts. Please reckonizeee. read more

Mellow Mushroom fills an interesting niche in Charlottesville. It's fast pizza, making it a competitor of the corporate pizzas you know, but they have interesting flavor combos that put it on the next level. It's not a fine dining experience, and it is in fact a chain, but I do really dig it. Mellow Mushroom gets major points from me because the pizza is so consistent. I've gotten it many times and literally never had an order I was unsatisfied with. I almost always get the Holy Shiitake, and it's excellent. The crust is baked well and is perfectly chewy, always dusted with Parmesan cheese. The mushroom blend is fresh and varied. I've also had their mushroom soup, their "pretzel bites" (actually just their excellent pizza dough) with cheese, and a couple other pizzas, and it's all great. We always do take out, and I'd say our order of a few pizzas is usually ready within 25 minutes, maybe longer if it's a weekend. It's pricier than generic corporate pizza, but it is certainly worth it. read more

We had never been to a Mellow Mushroom, so figured "what the heck". Turned out to be a good choice. It was busy for a Saturday, but we did get seated right away. Nice draft beer selection, and lots of custom pies to choose from. I went with the House pizza, and my wife the Kosmic Karma. We both thought we made a good choice. Mellow Mushroom has some of the best pizza in town! Considering there are quite a few places that have pizza in Charlottesville that is quite an amazing compliment! I absolutely love the "holy shiitake" (mushroom) pizza. I am not really a mushroom fan but this pie is "out of this world" delicious! I definitely would try their bruschetta appetizer! One of my favorite salads (although I do love their Greek salad) is the Enlightened Spinach Salad. On top of the spinach are these delicious candied pecans which are a great contrast to the tart dried cherries & feta cheese. The dressing is very tasty and you can always add chicken if you would like. I haven't tried all their house pizzas but another one of my favorites is the Pacific Rim. I love the contrast of the salty and sweet! I do, however, get mine without the jalapeños! My friends always rave about the calzone especially my vegetarian friends say the veggie calzone is awesome! Mellow Mushroom has a lot of room to eat inside and a really great outdoor patio where you can people watch ( which is something I love to do on a Friday evening!) Their outdoor patio is strategically situated in the heart of UVA.
