After many attempts to have my dog's nails cut, we were at a loss. We had been to 3 other groomers, and had taken a number of trips to the vet. We tried CBD, and medication to calm her and we were still unable to have anyone actually get them cut. We heard about Mell's Grooming and called on a whim. They told us to come down and they would get it done. We entered and everyone was very friendly. They were grooming 3 other dogs and were still able to take us. Anna helped us and got her right up onto the table. Unlike everyplace else, they didn't need to muzzle her and didn't have trouble keeping her on the table. They were able to get her nails cut in minutes! We are so grateful to Anna and everyone at Mell's grooming for getting her nails cut when no one else could. Well let's start off by saying, my dog is sensitive so I knew it wouldn't be easy. However, the cut was horrible. She ended up with a few pink patches. The receptionist kept referring to her as a he and I only corrected her about 6 to 7 times. I called back to see if they had given her a bath and they said no, I would have thought the bath would calm her down because a bath isn't her issue at all, but hey did not bathe her smh. She actually hung up on me when I corrected her for the 8th time. They did have some vet advice. They suggested she may need a sedative but maybe they needed it with the haircut they gave my dog lmao. Then they said she may have a u.t.i. but if they knew anything about dogs they would know many female schnauzers suffer from that. Wow! Wow! Wow! This was our first visit (and definitely won't be our last!) We took our nine year old cat in for matting and this was our first experience with matts. I was sure she'd have to be shaved. I prepped the kids for it. Mell and her staff were super friendly and told me they might not need to shave her. Well, they didn't. Good afternoon to all who read this review. I brought my 7 year old schnauzer there who is extremely sensitive. Upon my return, my dog looked jacked up. Im aware that she had knots and she may have needed to be shaved down but in some areas they took the groom down to where some parts she was pink. Now Im an animal lover and I would have liked to think they were too. They could have gotten the shave in all one coat and then informed me she would need some sedatives, lmao. Maybe they were the ones who needed it. The receptionist kept calling her he, after correcting her about 6 to 7 times she still couldn't get the gender correct. So that lets me know she definitely is insensitive including the fact when I called back to find out if my dog was washed she hung up on me because I corrected her for the 8th time on gender. 54 bucks for the jacked up haircut. I've been going to the same groomer for years in Riverhead, recently moved out west and needed to find a new groomer. I brought my two Siberian huskies 6 and 4yo to Mell's and let me just say... WOW, I don't usually leave reviews, only if there a true impression, positive or negative, and I have to say I'm so impressed with my dogs grooming!! They were so WHITE, and not a single piece of under coat hair left uncombed! I could feel their skin even down to their hind butt where it easily can get matted due to the texture. My dogs seem happier and look amazing but most importantly they feel amazing! Even their breath wasn't stinky with Mell's teeth brushing, I've been getting Hercules and Zaya's teeth brushed with every grooming for 5 years and only since I took them to Mell's I can actually smell a huge difference, highly recommend, prices were also extremely reasonable. Never would take my puppy that is arriving soon to a groomer who told me she hates a mixed breed dog and called my golden doodle a mutt and told me my breeder lied to me when they told me they make good family dogs. This is the second time I've brought my dog here to get groomed. I like that you can watch the dogs as they get groomed, as my dog gets nervous when I'm not around. The employees are all super friendly and I trust them to get the job done. Not only do they do a good job at that but they do it pretty quickly. They also keep files on the dogs and they knew the exact cut my dog was given last time and asked if it was okay or if I wanted it shorter/longer at all this time around. It was my first visit and I didn't even get my dog groomed. As I waited for another customer to pick up her dog, I watched a Maltese getting it's nails done. The groomer (a short lady with long black hair), had yanked this poor dog's leg out to the far right. I thought the joint was going to pop out. She continued to manhandle this tiny pup as it whimpered and tried to shy away. It was so disturbing to witness, that I cancelled my appointment and walked the f*** out of there with my dog. My 11 year old German Shepherd is scared to death of groomers due to a bad experience. She has just recovered from a bad double skin and ear infetion and the vet said she needed to be ckeaned professionally. Mell's ws highly recommended to me. I have been going to Mel's for about 2 years. The place is clean and they seem to all be animal lovers. I try to get Mel most of the time because she always does a perfect job and listens whenever I ask for any changes on the cut, which I do from time to time depending on the weather. I also bring my dog in for blow outs in between her cuts . They are always accommodating when I call the same day and she comes home so clean and fluffy. I have also used Stephanie who does a good job too. From time to time I switch and ask for oatmeal shampoo so my doggie Lyla"s skin does not get dry and they always say okay with no extra charge. I would highly recommend this place as I already have done to a bunch of friends. This is the best place in town . The prices are a little high but if you go often you can get a card and after 6 visits you get 10.00 off. I don't mind paying a little more to know my dog is safe and treated well while she is at Mel's and they always try to get the dog done quickly so they are not sitting in a cage . read more

I'm no longer taking my dogs to this dog groomer again. I told the groomer to please be extra careful with my dog because she was blind and had a small growth on her neck. When I picked her up the groomer informed me that they nipped her accidentally near the eye. I wasn't happy to hear this especially after giving a tip. Then I get home to find another nip near her private part. My dog moped around all day and teared all day long as well. She was so not herself. I once gave a great review for this dog groomer when they first started out. Now They don't take the extra care and time they use with the dogs. Let me tell you how happy I was when I discovered Mells grooming. Not only is her staff really nice but they all do professional grooming right in front of you. My dog Sophie is always so calm and happy there and is very relaxed when she's ready to come home . A friend recommended this place. My dog is a ten pound Schnoodle. Needless to say, he has a lot of fur. When I picked him up, the groom was nothing like the picture i showed. His fur is uneven everywhere. His face is choppy and uneven as well. The groomer did not clean his ears because the extra hair inside was not cleaned out, which is stated on their site that is included. Also, if this isn't done regularly dogs can get ear infections. I continue to find matted fur in his ears, and I have had to cut some out myself. Overall, a rushed very bad experience. Usually groomers take 1-1 1/12 hours on him having patience and being gentle. He was done in under an hour here, as evidenced by the sub par job. I could have done better myself. The price was high $70. For this price I expect much better work. I've been touching up my dog daily and I'm extremely unpleased as we have holiday photos coming up. I do not recommend this place AT ALL. Really disappointed for the amount of money I spent hoping for a great result. I was really hoping to find a new local groomer that loves to please customers and loves dogs. Stopped bringing my dog there I have a shih tzu 16 yrs old the first incident they left her ears too wet and she got an ear infection. The second incident they snipped her private area i took her to the vet again he gave me anti biotics for her. So I thought maybe I can stop bringing her on Saturday and start bringing her on Monday's instead. The shop is clean and pretty. I was pretty nervous dropping my 5lb Pomeranian Truffle off to a new groomer but I knew it had to be done. They asked the basic questions of what I wanted. I am really easy going and not very particular about her haircuts...I just never want her shaved. She suggested a scissor cut. I felt terrible as always handing Truffle over as always since she shakes like a leaf. I got the call an hour and 15 minutes later that she was ready to be picked up. When I walked in she was prancing around their front desk station with them having a great time. It was a nice feeling knowing that she was not kept caged up. They also had nice things to say about her attitude and demeanor. She really is a Happy dog...and it always nice to hear other people say so. She looked adorable and they charged me at least $20 less than what other groomers had in the past. I am so pleased to have found them and will continue to use them. I already booked her 3 week appointment. I was also excited to learn they also offer toe nail painting and hair dying! I am thinking of a little pink tail for Halloween.
