Absolutely gorgeous! We went on a day pass for the pool. Everyone was very friendly. This is a hidden gem and a must to visit.

I received a king bed room on the end and luckily on the opposite side of the noisy I-35 Traffic.. WOW!!! I love the room!!! You walk in and there is a small alcove for your clothes vs a closet, the bathroom is opposite of the closet with a full walk in shower and a large vanity.. I absolutely loved that the bed was in the middle of the room and the desk was basically the headboard for the long desk. You are able to view the TV from your desk and the Bed... very convenient and really opened the room up. I wish there was room for a couch and end table for guest, but I guess the one small chair will due. We sat outside overnight on the covered patio having a couple beers and talking... really wished they had a fire pit as it was a little chilly out and it would have been really nice to have. The only complaint that i have is the noise at night. I-35 traffic at all hours of the day and night for the Odd number rooms and the periodic train that passes the hotel for those with even rooms.

She likes things that are different most of the time so I thought I'd try a bed and breakfast with her and was able to find the Crystal River Inn, listed as a 3 star hotel on the travel sites. Seemed to be a discount and I found out why later, but everything worked out fine. This place is just a few blocks away from Texas State so location-wise for us was perfect for our tour the next day. Very easy to find and it's also just off the downtown square so right in the thick of things and allowed us to "check" out the area pretty easy. The reason for the discount is that one part of the hotel is being renovated and so only about half the rooms are available. We stayed in the portion they call the Thomas House. Now we got there on a Sunday evening and so no work being done. There is some bustling noise on the street which mostly goes away by sundown. Also some foot traffic as there seems to be students walking back and forth for various retail spots. Very cozy and quaint rooms however with their own bathroom. One of those small town places where you just pick up your key on the table amongst the other keys for expected guests. Open parking in the back and easy in and out. Supposedly there is a ghost there that likes to mess with the temperature but the thermostat was blocked off and it was quite nice throughout the night. Though my daughter is into that we saw no ghosts that either pushed us down the stairs or helped us up them according to legend...LOL... Has a coffee station for the morning which is help yourself. You can hear other people moving around in the other rooms but nothing too terrible at least on this night. We did not need anything but there was a contact number and the innkeeper apparently was on call if necessary. I think a cozy place. Decor was very nostalgic and man the bath water was nice and hot and plentiful! I don't know that I would call it a romantic getaway place as the surroundings aren't idyllic; but it was a great alternative to the regular motels/hotels for not much more. The bed and pillows were worth the extra 20 bucks....LOL.... I think we got the night for $120 and after all those taxes it was about $144. Don't mind staying there if we are out that way again.

This pace is a danger to the disabled, elderly and basically anyone. The backyard is a hazard for tripping because it is so uneven and even has dips. The transition from the front desk to the hallway is loose and it is several inches wide, a huge hazard. The railing on the extremely steep stairs is too wide for someone who is disabled and can't grip it properly. The entrance in the back has broken and uneven bricks, again a huge hazard. She had the nerve to say to me that they looked at the cameras and I was walking perfectly fine which is so untrue, it's shocking. I had to take my shoes off and scan the floor to be able to walk. I reported to my dr and he took a full report. So I did report the incident and she has been caught in a very serious lie.

I had to call Hilton so they could connect me with this hotel because apparently Hilton has a mystical magical phone number that works. The parking situation sucks here too. Don't get here late because you won't find parking, and when you do, if one car parks too close to the line or over the line, this pushes all the cars into other parking stalls in an already small parking lot. The best is when you walk up and someone is smoking a blunt in the parking lot by the dumpsters as you walk your 11-year-old through to get to the lobby. The elevators are also frightening here too. They shudder and shake as you ride them, and you pray that you will survive the trip up to your room. Of course, the hotel staff doesn't tell you when they shut down the elevators either, so you may be stuck on your floor if you can't use the stairs to get down to the first floor. As for the rooms, there are marks all over the walls. The beds are uncomfortable, and the rooms smell. Our room looked like a crime scene all over the walls. I would understand this hotel being in this condition if I paid Motel 6 prices, but I paid the price of a typical Hampton Hotel, and what we got was a roach motel. I am so sad that I wasted my money on this place. I stayed here years ago and it was a beautiful hotel. Now this place looks like it is on the same level as a rundown Comfort Inn in Chipley, Florida, which was just as disgusting. Won't be coming here ever again.

Opened the couch bed to an unopened pack of airhead extreme strips (yum, didn't eat though) As well as what looked to be a lid to takeout with sauce on the cap. Not very pleasant... Showing they most likely didn't look in the pull out or just missed it entirely. Couch bed didn't look very clean nor comfy but got the job done at least. Bathroom was pretty nice, no waking up the family with a shower, extremely quiet water and soft water pressure. Our room had two queen beds. Clean sheets, spacious. Kitchen comes with mini fridge, mini sink, microwave, coffee machine, and under cabinet. The hotel in general was inviting with warm lighting, a bar, breakfast, food service, enough seating to fit my whole family tree down to my ancestors from the 13th century. Service was okay, front ladies are great! Only thing was when you dial the front desk, you start with a automated voice. I requested a cot for my brother, to which it said ok and that it will be brought to my door, 30 minutes.. nothing. So we recalled and ask to be transferred to a human at the desk to which they informed us they do not carry cots. All good. Not so heated pool btw. We appreciate they work they do though. Thank you Embassy!

Not much super close by in terms of local options. The hotel was undergoing renovations rendering some areas inaccessible including the pool. However from my understanding that was to be completed by today and the renovations should be done by the end of the month. We were just lucky to get the tail end of the construction. The construction was not too bad, but in the common areas it was loud. The hotel itself is huge. I was not expecting that. The rooms were spacious and accommodating. In terms of the conference, the staff were extremely accommodating and helpful. The room (s) I stayed in were newly renovated. On night one, a loud clackity clacking noise from a panel near the closet was notable. I assumed it was the AC. The noise was not constant so I figured I would manage to sleep through it. That was not the case. In the morning, I sent a message to the front desk and it sounded like they worked on the issue during the day. When I got back that afternoon, the noise was not detectable until I started to doze off. At which point I asked for a new room. Chelsea was so nice and accommodating. She managed to find me a new room and hooked me up with snacks... Clearly, I'm easy! Didn't have any problems for the rest of the week. The renovations are nice and bright. I was happy to see that they didn't have that same 90s carpet! Overall, it was a very pleasant stay and the conference areas were lovely.

Most of the lights didn't work, so hard to function in a barely lit room. We've never had a room where the lights didn't work! The hairdryer didn't work! Supposed to have free breakfast, but we couldn't find anything at 7am. There was someone running and jumping in the room above us. Overall a pretty miserable stay. We were anxious to have this experience behind us! We will definitely pick more carefully next time! Our granddaughter is going to school at Texas State University here. Despite being there during a slow week, employees seem lazy and unwilling to get ahead on cleaning and service. Our fan and light fixtures seemed to never have been dusted, we were only given 1 drinking glass and spoon, as well as 3 towels - while 5 guests were staying in the room. When room service came by on day 3, I asked for replacement towels. I gave her our 5, and I had to ask twice to get 5 towels back. 4 of the 5 she gave me were tiny, scrawny pool towels. We took those to the front desk and asked to be sent 4 bath towels. Front desk explained they were short on towels- which seems like a management issue- again, why I think the lack of effort is a staff issue, the apathy/low expectations roll downhill. Room service only delivered 3 more towels to our room (totaling 4, not 5); but we managed, as it was our last night. Hallways are dirty, floors and doors. I never saw or heard anyone cleaning them. Which seems like a good idea when business is slower. First floor bathrooms were cleaned during breakfast time, which is VERY inconvenient. Dining area was not dusted or mopped. Room keys had to be remade 4 times bc they stopped working. Door hydraulics were leaking and inoperable. The beds seem to be queen sized but only have full sized sheets and blankets on them. The pool was dirty upon our arrival. After asking multiple times; it was cleaned. Overall, I would still recommend staying here compared to other hotels options in the area; but staff could definitely do better at making this location a true 4 star hotel.

The outside looks haggard due to over grown weeds and there is a fair amount of litter on the property. There are small strips of grass to walk your dogs, which is good. I waited for about 5 or more minutes for someone to come to the front desk. When he arrived, he was friendly, explained everything and gave us our keys. We got to the room and the keys would not work. Went down to address, came back, opened the door and someone was already staying in that room! Talk about embarrassing. Luckily, he was light-hearted about it. (This is why it is a GREAT idea to throw the extra lock out while in your room. That said, I do not know how to combat this gross mistake if you are not in the room, but your stuff and dog is in the room.) Finally, we got the right keys. Got in, the room is spacious and pretty clean. The bed was comfortable. We went down to check out the pool and hot tub. The water in the hot tub was quite hot, but the water was visibly dirty. The small outdoor pool looked okay, but people were splashing about, so we didn't get a close look at the water. In our opinion, the property manager really needs to place some focus on the overall maintenance needs of this hotel. Otherwise, we might stay here again.
