I went for a procedure at Melrose Wakefield on Wednesday... The staff was so helpful... from the gentlemen at the information booth... to the women at the Surgical check in... I did not catch her name but she was amazing... I was in the wrong place and she took me to where I had to be on the fourth fl..... the women at the check in on the Fourth fl.... was also so friendly and Amazing... along with the nurses and staff that helped me... Horrible ER! I was called by my primary care NP telling me to head to the ER becasue findings on my mri that day showed a compressed spine even though the mri report said it most likely was due to bad image. She could not reach orthopedics and she felt a neuro surgeon or orthopedic specialist needed to read the mri right away! Well I went to the ER and they tell me they don't have a neuro surgeon or orthopedic doctor to look at my mri more closely! They actually told me to DRIVE to Tufts in Boston myself!!! So how urgent is all this?? I had taken an Uber on the request of the NP who called me. She said in case they put a brace on your neck. They say they will transfer me to Tufts in Boston! I sat for 3 hours on an uncomfortable gurney with nothing stabilizing my neck. I finally gave up. I told them I'm not going to Tufts and I'll talk to my ortho in the morning. They aren't going to do a consult at 11PM at the hospital, which means they would have admitted me. Ortho calls me in the morning to tell me they are setting me up with a neuro surgeon and they will call with an appointment for me. So my trip to the ER was not needed. I would have been admitted for no reason. But I WAS dehydrated with a low potassium and I was told they don't give potassium nor did they have any soft neck braces. It was a very bad experience for me. no body cares about you. all the nurses are never around the only time you see them is to only give you medications. they say they are to busy and can't answer your problems. And when I was discharged they just ok you can leave you are good to go home. And didn't give you any Transportation home either call someone ore take a bus to your house. My mom was addmitted 3 times sent her home with medication and it did nothing for hers she could not breath it was a fib and because of her age they don't give a shit .only looking for the money and the care she had stunk. I brought my son to get bloodwork done last night after a lengthy traumatic doctors appointment. He is terrified of even a speck of blood and needles. There was one person in front of us, she left and noone came out for an HOUR! my mother in law popped her head in to see what was taking so long because my sons anxiety of getting blood taken had been dragged out for over an hour now while they were in the back chatting it up. One of the girls immediately gave her an attitude and started raising her voice at my mother in law. She said "fine bring him in." They were EXTREMELY RUDE UNPROFESSIONAL AND TERRIBLE BEDSIDE MANNOR! Didn't even greet my son after I told them how scared he was. Didn't explain anything they were doing to him. I said please make this one stick if not just take it out no fishing please. Brooke then with her attitude told the other girl I believe her name was Mackensie "give him the green needle" I said no I'd like the butterfly I know the green needle is a larger one because I am a phlebotomist then Brooke started arguing with me saying that's what they're using and "I should go back to school" I took the tournament off of my son took his paperwork and left. My son is very sensitive with anxiety the girls were yelling as we walked out. He started crying saying this is all my fault I'm sorry I'm sorry. BOTH of these woman should be reprimanded NEVER in my life have I been treated so terribly at an establishment that is meant to HELP people!!!!!! Don't ask questions. Don't be an advocate for yourself or your family. Don't press the call button since they will ignore it anyway. Don't think that because all the nurses are just sitting at the nurse's station fixing their nails, chatting about their personal lives, staring into space, that they are not busy. Don't remind them of the hours on end you've been waiting since it's a privilege for you to be there, and 9 hours at the ER is nothing when others have waited 17. How dare you complain! Don't approach the nurse station even though you've pressed the call button twice and both times they were ignored, so you have no choice but to go to the nurse station. You will get kicked out. Be meek, docile, and take their abuse because you need their help. Never again. They may be the closest E.R. from my house, but I will never go there or take my family there again for any emergency. I gave birth to my daughter here 4 years ago. Labor & Delivery were awesome! The nurses there were wonderful. The maternity ward is a nightmare. I had a nurse from hell. She was an older woman and had the worst bedside manners. I went in on a Sunday and was induced that night, I had my baby via emergency c-section on Tuesday, we were sent to the maternity ward on Wednesday morning. I was on zero sleep and delirious. That one nurse was the absolute worst. She blamed me for my baby crying. She was very snooty and acted like my questions were stupid. The photographer came in while I was trying to sleep. She asked about photos. I said I'd have to talk to my husband first. She said they were only available that morning, so we never got professional newborn photos of our daughter. A social worker came and talked with us. She asked invasive questions that weren't necessary. There weren't any red flags with us. No drug use, no smoking or drinking, no fighting. We had a stable home to bring baby home to. This lady was persistent and wouldn't leave my side. I felt like a criminal while I was there. The bed was very uncomfortable on the maternity ward. I couldn't get any sleep. It didn't matter what position I was in. read more

My treatment in the ER was prompt and professional. Had two stints up at Med 6. I cannot say enough good things about the staff and how well they care for their patients. You treat them with respect and they'll treat you with respect. Would highly recommend Med 6 for good quality care. The nurses are excellent. read more

Mom was a patient here from The Residence at Melrose Station. Overall the care was very good however, one nurse tried to pull her teeth out as she assumed a 91 year old had dentures. I think a bit more training would help the nurses, otherwise the care is very good. read more

Edit: the billing team really screwed up our account. I'm now dealing with the hassle of being on hold forever just to fix something that shouldn't have happened in the first place. Came in for a good laceration on the index finger. Required x-ray as the knife went down the the bone. Came in at 3pm on a Sunday. Upon walking in, we were greeted and assigned a wristband. The triage nurse gave an initial assessment and recommends an x-ray. By about 3:45p, we went back for the x-ray. The x-ray technician was knowledgeable and took time to deep clean the room, which made me feel comfortable about the procedure. I then travelled back to the room in the ER and the nurse came in by 4:15p, cleaned the wound, and the PA made an assessment. First, we are in an ER with a lot of sick people. The process is going to take some time, so it's important to manage your expectations. The staff made sure to keep us informed of wait times, which was appreciated. The RN Jillian and the PA Kristin were great providers. With that said, there are a ton of impatient people in the ER (patients) who were being disruptive and inappropriate. Everyone wants to be the top priority, but that's not going to be possible. Give these ER employees a break, they're doing the best they can. read more

If I could give a zero rating, I would. After a traumatic event, our daughter was sent to MelroseWakefield Hospital's inpatient psychiatric unit. Therapy was non-existent. The psychiatry floor has a doctor on site only three days a week. We never spoke to the doctor during her stay despite trying to find contact information online; requesting a call through the social worker; and leaving messages both with the Nurses' Desk and after being transferred to Dr. S's voicemail. But absolutely worst of all, our daughter was released while still exhibiting signs of psychosis! What criteria are used for release?!! We detailed her signs of psychosis, which went unheeded, to the social worker Ms. Sarah P. From an on-line search, the unit has 22 beds. From Monday through Friday, visiting hours are four 30-minute slots for the entire unit. So four patients can see visitors each day. For someone who has had a traumatic event, this exacerbates the trauma. No comfort items can be brought onto the floor. Patients cannot have their phones. The staff spoke of how horrible the physical plant is: "Bring flip flops for the shower" and "Maintenance never fixes anything." Food looked revolting and even though staff were alerted that our daughter is a vegetarian, she was served meat and poultry. Finally, MelroseWakefield Hospital promotes an environment of stigma for mental health patients and families. The psychiatric unit is euphemistically called "Med 6". Maternity also should be called "Med 6", as it shares the sixth floor with the Psychiatry Unit. Psychiatry is not even listed as a specialty on the hospital's website. And now we know why - it's not a valued resource. DO NOT EVER USE INPATIENT PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES AT MELROSEWAKEFIELD HOSPITAL. There were some kind, sympathetic staff people. That's the only positive point I can make. read more

Wanted to share a Glimmer (Glimmers are positive and serendipitous things that happen in between all the other stuff.) I saw a new neuro doc yesterday. This is #3 for me since I fell. The two previous docs treated me like a number. I prayed so hard to find someone that would really SEE me, listen to me and validate what I've been through and still am going through. Dr. Mina Safain in Melrose is amazing. Firstly, I found out about the loss of one of my sisters while I was waiting to see him. I burst into tears. His assistant went and got him and he came right to me to see if I was ok. So, the kindness was evident right from the beginning. Then, not only did he pull up my scans and explain to me why I am still in pain (the other two didn't do that) he explained that where the fractured/collapsed vertebrae is, that area is what literally holds us up. Because I have little to no T7 left I'm getting a slight curvature at the top where my neck is. So, of frikken course I'm going to be in constant pain. Man I've never felt so validated in my life. ‍ he then gave me pain management options (cortisol injections) which may help short term. Down the road there is an option for surgery (rod and screws) but that's the last option. I left there feeling like I finally was HEARD. Anyone dealing with chronic pain or any other medical issue, my heart really goes out to you because this isn't easy. The health care industry is like trying to navigate a maze while you're being beaten w a led pipe all the way through. Most unfriendly front desk staff I have ever encountered . Normally we have our medical needs at MGH but thought locally would more convenient. I had to visited the ER for excruciating abdominal pain and extreme vomiting. I was held in the waiting are for at least one hour when I can barely sit. The staff is nice, but they couldn't treat me properly and I have to return to the ER for second time, but they still let me go without remediating my vomit and pain. Both time I was told that it will get better after taking a rest for a day or two, but it just didn't happen. I end up going to ER of another hospital for third visit, in where I got proper treatment. What a terrible experience. Not to mentioned that I received huge medical bill for three ER visits. In my opinion, the first two were waste of time and $$$. read more

Wait time is ridiculous. I literally fell asleep and everything. You have people asleep in the chair's. A person passed out n the floor in the lobby.....Yes literally on the floor. I've never witnessed anything like it you'll be waiting for hours. Just slow and ridiculous. I got to the hospital at 3pm and didn't leave till 9:30pm nothing got resolved. I came in for a ("possible") ectopic pregnancy. They did a sonogram and the radiologist could not confirm whether what he saw was an ectopic pregnancy or just a benign obstruction by my uterus once again could not confirm it's a baby. I wait another two hours and they put me in the back by the operating room premeditating a surgical procedure that was wasn't needed the radiologist put on the form I had an ectopic pregnancy but looked me in my eyes and verbally said he cannot confirm if I have one or not. They were literally about to operate on me for a baby that couldn't even be found or located in my body. Then a patient and security have a physical fight in my room while I'm undressed behind the curtain the chair fell on my bed the guy rips his IV out and there's blood all on the floor. Never come here this place can drive a sane person crazy. I've had enough. Let's just pray to God I don't get charged for this nonsense. I'm literally leaving to go home mentally drained. read more

I visited emergency room because of blood in vomit, at the advice of research. I was also experiencing chest pain and extreme migraine and nausea. I visited the Melrose ER at 9 p.m. and stayed until 4 a.m. without a single test done, including a screening for COVID-19. Absolutely horrific. I walked out. Can't wait for the bill! Good luck! Xx --For those asking me why I even felt the need to get tested for the CoronaVirus, I want to clarify: I was experiencing symptoms during the height of the Pandemic, a time when no one (not even health care professionals) truly knew about the virus. During this time, many people who were asymptomatic were testing positive for the virus, etc. I am a young person and very healthy, and I was feeling terrible out of the blue. In an abundance of caution, not only for myself, but for my family members (elderly parents) who I live with and love dearly, I wanted to make sure I was not positive so as to avoid spreading the virus to them. I could not believe that in the height of the pandemic, the hospital did not test me immediately for Covid-19. Mind you, I had been there for nearly 7 hours, just sitting in a bed, waiting for care. It was truly appalling and disheartening to say the least. Looking back, I definitely should have left immediately and sought care elsewhere, but that is the beauty of hindsight! This hospital has just gone downhill. My mother has been in ER since about 9 this morning and was told about 4 her room is ready. Here it is 720 and she is still waiting to be moved. Has not even been offered a meal all day. The nursing staff is not helpful and there are plenty on today and the ER isn't that busy (surprisingly). I'm only giving a star because it's required to post a review. I was scheduled for a minor procedure. From the moment I got there, the pre op staff were the rudest people on earth. Apparently I don't change my clothes fast enough for the nurse charged with getting me settled in. The anesthesiologist was terse and rude. And clearly didn't approve of the fact that I'm in need of some dental reparations to my back teeth. Her look of disdain was palpable. Then something happened during the surgery with my heart. The operation got cancelled and they admitted me. When they removed the breathing tube, it must have been done with extreme force. My throat was scratchy for over a week. Getting a cough drop required permission from a doctor. It would have been quicker if I dragged my pole down to the store to buy my own. The majority of the fifth floor staff were the rudest people I've ever met. Clearly put out that they had another patient. This notwithstanding that I stayed in my room, with the door closed and never rang their goddamn bell until ten pm when I was in so much pain that I had to ask for some relief. They gave me Tylenol. Finally at 11 pm, I told them the Tylenol was not working, and I couldn't sleep. You'd think I had a million opioid scripts in my past, when the last one I had was in 2014. I finally fell asleep at 11:30 pm only to be woken at 6:45 by two residents to ask me how I felt......? The only nice people were the actual surgeon and radiology. Strangely enough, the doctor is now SOLICITING me to reschedule. I will reschedule some day. But it won't be at that awful place. Never again. read more

Who would have thought an ER visit for passing out would have led to over $3000 in bills. The hospital which was in network for my insurance has doctors in the ER that are not within network. After paying the hospital separately nearly $1000. I was sent a bill for the doctor charge. The man Dr. Carey who charges $930 to sign discharge papers. We don't have a choice who we see in an ER and no one should be billed out of network costs for a 30 second conversation of youre all set to go. read more

A few years ago not the best experience but this time my mom had to be admitted and everyone was great and thorough. She had the best nurse for a week. She became like family. Initially they kept running test and didn't stop until they found the cause of her fever. She was admitted for 5 days and I felt totally safe with their care for her. This hospital is ill-equipped to take care of a salamander, let alone a human being. My mother was unable to feed herself and stay hydrated, they did nothing. She was severely dehydrated when she left there. The doctor, who was taking care of her, try to get her switched to a rehab hospital - she couldnt walk or talk and he expected her to go to rehab. They also had no system in place to alert her doctors of her admission and what was going on. We had to get others involved and the hospital admitted we did more for her care than they did. We are speaking to lawyers and will be filing a malpractice suit, since they admired they messed up and let her down. Stay away! Any doctor who is based out of there is a monster. read more
