Cute little cafe in downtown Montoursville. I ordered a hot ham & cheese special and although it sounds simple, it was amazing! My husband and I picked our favorite dessert from their display and took it to go. I had peanut butter iced chocolate cake and it was really good with the perfect amount of peanut butter. Finally was able to check out Mel's, a nice spot in Montoursville. Ordered takeout from here today. I was impressed with the menu, they have a ton of options for both breakfast and lunch and a lot of options as far as sides. Also a lot of coffee options. The wait was significantly longer than promised. The restaurant space is nice but somewhat small and crowded. I had the Turkey Club wrap which was good and the broccoli salad which was just okay. Prices are reasonable. Unfortunately, they really don't appear to care about the current pandemic. The restaurant seemed to be at full capacity and none of the employees were wearing masks. Would be hesitant to come back here anytime soon. read more

I am really disappointed. I was excited to try this place for the first time. I am new to town and came here alone wanting to try a friendly local place. Because I was alone, the waitress completely ignored me. Poured coffee to all the tables around mine. I had to walk up to the counter to get my own coffee. It took forever to get a menu, the food was slow, waitress offered jelly to other tables but not mine. I was also not told of the daily special. It was so weird not being treated like the other customers because I was alone. Won't be back. read more

Great local place for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Simple food with great taste. Clean establishment and good for kids too. Ordered the tuna melt. YUM. Freshly toasted, with broccoli salad (that was awesome). Kids got hotdog, frys and apple sauce (great portion), Rueben and strawberry spinach delight salad. Everything was great! We are frequent customers and stopped in for lunch on Saturday at 1:45. After a discussion between the hostess and someone behind the counter, it was decided that they were closing in 15 minutes and couldn't cook lunch. We complained because so they offered us a cold sandwich. We left and won't go back. read more

I ordered a bowl of Marylamd Crab soup for take out. I was excited since I lived in Maryland for 7 years. I opened my soup and was so dissappointed that there was no CRAB in it. Wow for $6.65 and no CRAB. I called Mel's and was told there was CRAB in there. I asked my coworkers if they could see any CRAB and they could not find any either. I was told by the establishment that the CRAB was pureed. What you would puree good CRAB meat. Needless to say I took the MARYLAND NO CRAB SOUP back for a refund. The bowl of soup was just a little more than a measuring cup for over $6.00. I will never order from their again. read more

I am from out of town, but we stopped in to Mel's for lunch with inlaws and I was truly impressed. The special of the day was an expertly crafted Grilled Chicken Cashew Salad with a truly delectable raspberry vinaigrette. We also had the Grilled Chicken Pittsburgh salad since I had never heard of such a thing (french fries on salad)! In both cases, the grilled chicken was perfectly done. Truly delicious! On the table too was the homemade chili. Made with ground beef and beans, it was just spicy enough to please and not overwhelm. The cherry on top of a great lunch was the service...Carie is a gem! Customer service at its finest. I will definitely insist on a return visit next time we are in town! read more

Third time here and this time way off the mark. Other times the place was filled and the food was great and the serves top notch. But Sat only four other tables and the two of use and we order the special 28 min later cold eggs and cold pancakes. Not impressed. Guess they work better and severs are on their game when place is full. read more
