If I could give 6 stars I would. I'm a coffee snob. I say this not to brag, but rather to provide…read morecontext. I've spent a ton of time in serious coffee shops from Shanghai to New York with Q graders and baristas with bonafides. Alabaster can stand up to the best of them. The coffees we tried were fantastic. The Rwandan was delicious and the roast complimented the natural expression of the beans. My dad got the Ugandan which was awesome as well. I grabbed a bag of the Salvadoran beans to take home, and it brews up an amazingly clean and interesting cup (I used a V60). One of the better cafes I've visited in the U.S. with a roaster that knows what they're doing. On top of all that, the tahini date banana bread we tried was seriously good and wasn't a premade, mass produced baked good like so many cafes have resorted to in recent years. On top of that, the cafe was beautiful with reclaimed wood tables. We were traveling with our dog and they allowed her in because she was well-behaved. Nice people, awesome cafe, world-class coffee, and seriously good pastries. Keep up the incredible work! I will be back to Williamsport for more.

There were plenty of outlets along the walls, which made it relatively easy to study. There was a lot of foot traffic, but the overall ambiance did not get too rowdy, providing pleasant white noise. There were a few seasonal specials, but otherwise the selection was not very large. The tea selection was rather small, especially considering it is part of their name. Drinks came out extremely quickly. There was a dish tub near the entrance to drop items off after finishing. I tried their seasonal egg nog cappuccino, and it came out lightly warm. The egg foam was not overwhelming and the spiced notes were well incorporated into the drink. It was not too sweet and gave me a pleasant buzz. I hope to see more diverse tea options in the future, but the overall feel and quality of this cafe were great.

I go to backhouse as do many of my friends and associates, anywhere from 3 to 5 days a week to start my day. It is ALWAYS without fail, not only a great experience and a nice, non stressful way to start my day, but the coffee is hands down, the best I've ever had. I drive in 20 minutes almost every day, to experience a little slice of heaven on earth. Great conversations, or just enjoy the sunshine on their deck or in the front yard with my java. They have excellent 10/10 pastries out every day, in addition to crustless quiche, and when I'm not "carnavoring", i get the quiche with crust. The Owners, Ron and June, and all of the staff go above and beyond, to make you feel welcome, and to see that you are having a top notch experience. With that being said, I've seen some people come in and they are just ridiculous. Karen's and Ken's, trying to squeeze them for a Large for the price of a medium, add this add that and so on, and Ron is happy to do that, if you aren't an B***hole, and ask for all of the extra shots and pumps to be free. Come on people! Support mom and pop business, and cut loose of the other 30 cents to get the coffee you want, and don't act like an entitled %#@*& and storm out when you are told that's an extra charge. Try to go to any restaurant and ask for an extra side of 1000 island for example for your burger. They will and should charge you for that. It's not charity. Do yourself a favor, get a punch card while you are there, get it punched each time you buy a coffee, and you will fill it up quickly. Then get a free coffee when you turn it in. Love that idea! I can't say enough how much i love this place. The owners and the staff are just great people. Best coffee shop that i have been to, and i travel the entire USA. Kevin

Despite being one of the few patrons in the restaurant, my order took quite some time to come out. Drinks were made instantly, but I finished two before my entree arrived. The bathroom was strangely the only sticky element of the establishment. *Ribeye: huge 18 ounce ribeye served with sweet potato fries and creamed corn. Although I asked for medium rare, the edges leaned closer to medium well. That said, the steak was thoroughly seasoned and tender throughout. The sweet potato fries were heavily seasoned with sea salt, though the potatoes themselves were sweet enough to balance it out. The creamed corn was the most pungent and watery component. I wished the sauce had been thickened more, as it pooled underneath the steak and softened the bottom crust. Overall, this dish was hefty and a steal for the price. *Frost Bite: one of the seasonal mixed drinks. The Malibu and pineapple juice gave this a pina colada style profile. The blue curacao added a striking snowy appearance, though the drink itself leaned quite sweet. *Jingle Juice: another seasonal option, though this one packed a stronger alcohol punch. The tequila was more prominent, while the peach schnapps helped soften the edge. However, the cranberry and orange juices were barely noticeable, so it did not quite deliver the spiked fruit punch profile I was expecting. I loved the generous portions and strong flavors. While the execution was not perfect, the large sizes and heavy pours still made this a jolly experience.
