It's clean and comfortable. You can park or dock a boat and walk three minutes. The mint chip ice cream is good.

Randomly stopped by Mel's today on the way the to bay because I was in need of a coffee, but ended up grabbing some ice cream too! They have a decent selection of ice cream and coffee. The ice cream and coffee are good/average nothing out of the ordinary. Service was good. I vibe of the store and area is very American summer camp which is a lot of fun. There's a "secret" route through tight, windy roads that I like to take going to Sacramento on weekends just to avoid the traffic. It takes you into small, hidden towns where places like this exist! The route is a little bit longer but halfway in (or out?) we love making this our pit stop. I come mainly for the coffee or ice cream (afigato!) but they also have sandwiches or salads if you're feeling hungry. The service has usually been pretty friendly. They've got seating inside with TVs or there are a few tables outside and has always been clean when we stop by there. read more

I have driven by this ice cream shop so many times over the past few years while working and always wanted to stop. I cannot believe it took me this long but I finally stopped on a beautiful, sunny, spring day and got some ice cream after lunch! I got the mud pie flavor- which was like a chocolate almond mocha ice cream with cinnamon added. It was absolutely delicious! I ordered a kid's cup size and they gave me a huge portion. I ate my ice cream along the river while admiring the gorgeous view. Can't wait to stop by again and try another flavor! Whenever I pass this place I say I'm going to stop by. Today I did. There was only one person working so I did have to wait a good amount of time. They sell a variety of things. I wasn't a big fan. I get it's a small town and all but service was not very good and food was not good. I was made the wrong sandwich and I specifically told them no bacon cuz I don't eat pork and when I took a bite of my sandwich tucked into the turkey was ham! I've felt sick all day. We saw this cute shop and decided to go in for the ice cream. We didn't feel welcome at all when we went inside. We were rushed served and felt like she was annoyed to serve us. I came in with my cousins yesterday. Ive lived in the delta since childhood and Ive known its always a gamble on if youre going to get good service. yesterday there was a young girl with with short blonde hair and she was a sweetheart. there was two other girls with black long hair and they were so rude and condescending to my cousins. it ruined the experience. Morning Fishing at Sacramento River needed a cup of fresh coffee, stop at the Dock right by the Walnut Grove Bridge has lots of different flavor coffee. I got the Columbia House Coffee, I added the French Vanilla Cream in it, it was good. I got the WG Breakfast Burrito and the Grove Riser it was simple nice and hot. The Lady behind the counter was not welcoming, not friendly, did not smile or thank me. I kept trying to have a conversation with her to have her smile. I even complimented on her flower tattoos on her arms, still no smile. It would be very nice to walk in a place to be greeted and smile. At the end, she finally said hope to see me back. I went here for ice cream and this was much better than I expected. I went in and the staff were nice, so I ordered a bowl with 2 scoops of ice cream, which one scoop is large, so 1 will fill you up, but I got 2, and they were big scoops. The ice cream place was clean, and it had lots of space to sit, I sat outside and enjoyed my ice cream. The restrooms are also clean! Having an amazing day on the motorcycle, riding on the River Road and decided to stop and get ice cream. As we walked in, I swear I heard a scratched record...or was it crickets? We had the pleasure of coming here on our way home from Oakland. They had signs all over about covid regarding keeping to code and that staff is required to wear masks (which she wore correctly)and they recommend masks of the guest but they can't enforce it. They also provide hand sanitizer. I accidentally marked that they didn't but they do by the register. Sarah I believe was her name was super friendly and kind. They were even getting ready to close and told us to take our time. What's nice is you can pick two flavors for any size you get! Oh also, did I mention their ice cream is GUNTHERS! $12 for a small sandwich? Went there based on an older picture showing the sandwiches were $8. When I got there ordered a turkey on a French roll with pepperjack, lettuce, tomatoes and mayo. Sandwich was not that big. I've been to other places where I ate half, was full and at the other half later for less money. Was the sandwich good? Yes, good, but not great. Would I go back? Probably not. Lira's in RV has a larger and better sandwich for less. Or you could go to Burgerlicious in RV and get a burger and fries for less than $11 (and it's a big burger with a lot of fries that will keep you full for a while. Right around the start of salmon season, 2019, my family joined about ten other families for an awesome camping trip at a resort just south of Isleton on the Sacramento River. As is the custom, after dinner on one of the evenings, everyone loads into the boats, and motors upstream to Walnut Grove for ice cream at Mel's! Our chief party planner/Delta Queen called ahead to ensure they knew we were coming fairly close to their 7:00 PM closing time, and they were happy to welcome us there. A beautiful ride up the river took us through some beautiful parts of the Delta, under bridges, past floating trees, with plenty of nature to enjoy: jumping salmon, raptors, waterfowl and wading birds, and even a couple of playful otters. We arrived at the Walnut Grove public dock around 6:30, and mobbed the place! The two gals working behind the counter scooped dozens of ice creams for the members of our group, and did it with a smile. Super large portions were enjoyed by everyone, and the ice cream was delicious. Apparently, they also serve coffee and sandwiches and other odds and ends. I wouldn't know :). But worth a look at this cool little place. read more

We've stopped here at least a half a dozen times on our way from the Bay area to Laguna del Sol. It's across the street from the water, clustered together with other businesses. You can't miss it, it is a lavender coloured building. They have seating both outside, and inside. It's almost mid June, 2021, and at this time it isn't necessary to wear masks, however, the staff is wearing masks. One of the negatives is their popularity which can cause long lines. The staff is polite and considerate.. I remember during Covid when their restroom was closed to the public, and I really had to go...they let me use the bathroom--thank God!!! I love their rich and creamy ice cream! When we start getting close to where they're located, my mouth starts watering.They also make delicious sandwiches. Yesterday, there was a long line. My partner wanted me to order the ice cream with our sandwich, but I didn't want to because the ice cream would have melted. Tip: if you don't want your ice cream to melt while you eat your sandwich, pay for your whole order, and they will let you get your ice cream after you finish your food without having to go to the end of the line. This is the stop on the Delta that I always look forward to. read more

One thing that is really fun to do is get up early and visit Walnut Grove and historic Locke when the morning is very young. The Sacramento river is all glassed off and the town hasn't fully awakened for the day. Drop into Mel's for a fresh bagel and coffee, a fresh sandwich or an ice-cold smoothie... It really doesn't matter what you get, it is always served up with a helping of warm hospitality that can only be found in a place like Walnut Grove. Mel's is a favorite and we like to go up there just to chill and enjoy the relaxing moments that lead to really good days. You can always be sure the service will be open and kind, and, if you are lucky, you might even find that one of the locals has brought in a bag of fresh-picked stone-fruit and be invited to enjoy some. You could blow right on past this inland gem on the 5 and never know what you missed, and that would be to your own loss. read more

Horrible customer service for my family and I, but I noticed how the employees' attitude changed the minute a non POC came in the door. I have been to this business a few times because I give folks the benefit of the doubt and understand they maybe just had bad day, but nope. This is how they operate. Do not give them your business. Also, the food is mediocre at best. The pizza place next door is a much better option. P.S. This is a decent little place in walnut grove along the Sacramento River Delta if you want a little ice cream. Usually stop by while driving home and taking the scenic route with family along the river. The prices could be a little better considering they don't even make the ice cream. They just serve Gunther's ice cream. I can't speak on behalf of the sandwiches or other food items but I feel like the service can be very hit or miss. Sometimes I'll deal with a nice person who's very helpful and other times I'll get some rude person who looks like they hate being there and rushes you. If you're in the mood for ice cream and want to walk across the street for a view of the Sacramento River this isn't a bad spot. Just don't come in with high expectations. read more

Just had a scoop of ice cream during my bike ride and really appreciated the staff and their attentiveness. They scoop ice cream from a reputed high-quality place in San Francisco with all sorts of different flavors. The cherry and I believe mocha almond were to die for. Got a basic bagel with cream cheese, chips, soda and sandwich. Asked for sourdough and was substituted white bread. There was so much chopped lettuce it fell out all over. Good portion of meat. The sandwich was so wet it just fell apart. The ladies working seemed annoyed and frazzled, and a little rude. Cute spot! The lady who works at the register was very sweet, helpful... when you pay with card there is a fee, so it is best to bring CASH! I tried the Hot Cocoa and it was very chocolaty.
