This review is not about the hospital itself, it is about Customer Service for Northshore LIJ. The…read morehospital staff was very friendly and accommodating. The issue is that a person cannot contact Northshore's billing department. You have to speak to a Customer Service Representative who has no idea about the billing process. My daughter was in the hospital on 8/18/15 at the doctor's request. A few weeks ago, we get a letter from Northshore that Rachel owes over $1000.00. The letter stated that they made many attempts to call and write us. That letter was the "first" notice we received for that particular hospital visit. We called our insurance company and we were told that it was not medically necessary for my daughter to go to the ER and that she could have gone to an urgent care center. If she is told by the doctor to go to ER, that is what she is going to do. I Checked the EOB on the website, It appears the staff doing the billing for the hospital did not code the visit correctly. Furthermore, while checking on the billing for the lab, I noticed that there was unbundling. Certain things are supposed to be billed as one. We sent a letter to the hospital and copied the insurance company. We received notice from the insurance company that they received the appeal. Today, a representative from Northshore calls for my daughter. We thought it was in regard to the letter sent to Northshore. We called them back and discovered the call was from their Collections Department. As far as I know, when a charge is being appealed, the collection process is supposed to be put on a freeze. We spoke to a Customer Service or Collections representative at Northshore, and was advised the billing cycle does not stop. In addition, we were told that they don't have record of the letter on file. The letter was faxed and mailed, so they definitely received it. On a final note for this review, I must say that I am curious as to why we have to speak with Customer Service representatives and cannot speak with someone in the billing department of Northshore LIJ now known as Northwell Health.

When I was placed under the care of the H-Unit treatment team, they were able to correctly diagnosis me and plan accordingly with their method of treatment. They taught me DBT skills, CBT skills, and coping skills. Dr. Ganger helped me understand my disorder and how to go about treating it. The things I learned from her still help me in my everyday life. Dr. Faylayev was able to get me off of medication completely and helped me with the horrible withdrawals. Toni provided friendly support when I was in crisis, and also taught me valuable life lessons. The staff that worked here during the time I was here were incredible. They were my role models, caretakers, and friends. Having conversations with the staff helped me develop social skills. They also taught me about setting boundaries with people depending on the relationship to that person. The recreation staff was creative with fun ideas to keep all of us entertained during a time when everyone there is struggling severely. They were super nice and everyone looked forward to seeing them. They taught me discipline as well. If somebody did something that was unacceptable, such as fighting or trying to escape, they would be the ones to lecture us as to why this was unacceptable and ban us from activities for a certain amount of time. The school staff was friendly and you can feel that they actually care about you and want to see you succeed. They would use customized lesson plans for each kid depending on their education level and learning style. The nurses were amazing here, except for Ena Benny & Latoya Brown-Hunt, they can go catch a bus to Clevland and never come back. The nurses provided professional medical treatment, gave us our medication, and they were always someone to talk to. Kim Mueller inspired me to get into my phlebotomy career I am currently in. Each and every single staff member at Sagamore is wonderful for doing the work they do. It is not easy, yet they choose to help people in such need. I am forever thankful I had the chance to come to Sagamore, so I can now live a successful life. Thank you for reading this. ----------------------------------------------- I would like to add a few names of specific staff members as a special thank you so much for everything you've done to help me in case you are ever reading this by any chance.
