I am dying at how good and how close this is to the El Ranchito of my childhood. I would give my left foot for the mole recipe. :)

When you live in the Pacific Northwest, but you grew up in Arizona, you face a harsh reality: good,…read moreauthentic Mexican food can be hard to find. Which makes Tammy's a pleasant surprise indeed. You can tell from the outside, just driving by - Tammy's isn't trying too hard to get your attention. Its simple storefront reminded me immediately of the many family-owned Mexican restaurants in Phoenix, and walking through the door only confirmed it: Tammy's is the real deal. The decor is warm and comfortable, the staff speaks mostly Spanish and most of the customers are Hispanic too. The dishes on the menu are more than the cheese-and-beans remixes most PNW Mexican restaurants offer - this is the kind of food someone's abuela might cook for you on a warm day in Mesa. And while the portions are healthy, you'll want to eat every bite and savor all the flavor. I tried the Milanesa de Res and cleaned my plate - the flour tortillas that came with it were obviously homemade and the perfect accompaniment. There are a lot of Mexican restaurants in Yakima, but take my advice: if you're looking for the real deal, Tammy's is the place to go.

This is my favorite restaurant in the area, and I make a point to go here every time I'm in town…read more They are doing takeout during this extended period of "pandemic," so grab some lunch or dinner to go! I know there are a lot of small businesses in this area to support, but many of them are trucks or shacks, and this full-sized restaurant probably takes a lot more revenue to keep open. Please help them survive this lockdown. They are easy to find only if you know what you're looking for. What you're looking for is Rodeway Inn! They share the parking lot, but El Valle is hidden in the back. I know it's called "Family Restaurant," but I'm pretty sure it really IS a family who runs it. I always see the same people working here over the past few years I've been patronizing this establishment. They are all great. I especially like the young, big guy. The first time I remember him serving us, he was really rude, but in a funny way that amused me. I was pretty sure at the time that it was a shtick, and as I've experienced his personality about 20 more times since then, I am confident that it was. He is always either funny or really nice, and he is certainly the most memorable! The prices here lean high, but the serving portions are also on the larger side. If you're concerned about the prices, give them a try during lunch, as their lunch menu is a better value. They serve lunch from 11a-3p. My favorite thing here, and one of the main things I judge mexican restaurants by, is the carne asada. El Valle rivals my favorite places for this dish. It is seasoned and cooked perfectly. The rice and beans that accompany it are also very good. Though it is served with a green onion, a fried jalapeño, a blob of guac, and tortillas, I always omit everything but the guac. The guac is usually amazing, though sometimes much heavier on the onions than I like. The only other thing I usually order here is a chicken enchilada, and it's also very good. I can't personally speak to anything else, but my ex branched out and ordered a lot of other offerings, and he liked most of the things he tried. I am a white girl, I love mexican food, and I'm extremely picky. That said, my favorite mexican food is americanized. If you're looking for authentic, there are about a billion other mexican food places in this area, so you might want to shop around. My ex is mexican, and was born and raised in mexico, but he is not very picky. The only times I noticed he wasn't fully satisfied here were when he was looking for something to really remind him of home and his mom's cooking. Then he was hard to please, and El Valle did not quite hit the spot for him on those occasions. But we both enjoyed coming here together, and now I enjoy coming here alone. ;-)

The food is beyond outstanding. I would love to eat here every single night of the week ha ha ha! They were so kind to put on the different games on tv that we requested in the bar area. Lilly is one of the best bartenders I've ever met... And she gave me some tips about how to order my margarita back home. Maya is an excellent waitress and gave us absolutely outstanding customer service. She managed our group which wasn't simple... She made recommendations and serve the food so timely. I'd like to give a shout out to the chefs in the back because they make absolutely outrageously fantastic Mexican food. I can tell these people have been doing this for a while and I'm wondering which mamas recipe am I eating! If you want great Mexican food... This is your place. I also love the patio on the river and I think whoever is doing the flowers out back has a tender touch and an eye for Beauty. They really make a difference. One of my favorite parts of my evening as I met this beautiful soul Milagros and her sweet counterpart! Milagros is a precious soul who makes the tortillas... These tortillas are so perfectly shaped and perfectly made. I wish I had this kind of talent. She was so quiet... but devoted to her craft! I can see that she put LOVE into making these tortillas! I loved the girl that was working with her too. They showed me how they use this machine to roll out these handmade tortillas. They are so beyond delicious. I wanna come back again tonight. Thank you to the staff and the owners of this incredible restaurant... You are sprinkling love into the entire experience at this restaurant. We will come back again.

They brought out refreshing cups of water, chips and 6 types of salsa, while we reviewed the menu. The "chips" are actually whole corn tortillas fried! So you use them whole or break them into chips yourself. My guess on the salsas are: salsa verde (tomatillo), avocado, pico de gallo, a smoky ancho, a citrusy habanero, and something else. They all had distinct flavors and a little light spice, but we wanted spicier. They brought out the "no way Jose" sauce and warned us it's their spiciest and it sneaks up on ya! We tried it and found it was not burning but quite nice. We drizzled this sauce all over our food. It was the most flavorful of the bunch. The menu is quite extensive, with everything from sopas to sopes, tortas to tacos, cocktails to desserts. We each got a plate of food, meaning the main entree comes with Mexican red rice and refried beans. I got the sopita (aka sope) with barbacoa and a fish taco and husband got a dipped torta (I forget the name) filled with adobada. The amount of food and meat was quite generous, the toppings (veggies) too. I really enjoyed my sope - it had the perfect crispy crust and I could taste the slightly sweet creamy taste of the masa. The barbacoa was not as flavorful as I thought it would be. It was more like stewed beef meat. It was fine but I was expecting really deep flavor. The fish taco seemed freshly grilled and was moist, but there was a bit of a "fishy" smell and flavor that kind of took over. Thankfully, the generous veggie toppings and fresh handmade corn tortilla and salsas helped mask the flavor. Have to hand it to them that those tortillas are really good! The Mexican rice was perfect. I haven't had that flavor and texture in Mexican rice in a while and thought that was well done. The refried beans were good but also had a flavor I couldn't place my finger on... My husband said everything was really good on his plate. His torta was massive! Really flavorful and stacked with things. The adobada was very tasty. I wish I ordered that meat instead of the barbacoa and fish. Overall pretty good Mexican food, generous portions, really sweet service. The interior is also really clean and nicely decorated. They have a small parking lot out back.
