10 of us arrived on Saturday at 10:30 am. We were seated promptly in the back, and our friendly server promptly took our drink orders. The cofffee was excellent. Shortly thereafter she took our food orders and the food arrived in about fifteen or so munites, maybe a little sooner than that. Coffee refills were generous and often. Everyone enjoyed their breakfast. I do think next time, I will ask for my home fries to be well done though. All in all its easy to see why this litte place has been around for over 30 years. A friend took me to breakfast here a couple weeks ago. Had the veggie omelet and home fries with coffee. Everything was hot and tasty would've known that home fries weren't crispy I'd of requested them to be browned more. Over all good quick breakfast. read more

Don't judge a book by its cover is great advice and the adage applies here, this little shanty is not much to look at in fact it's likely many people looking for a great meal just drive by this little gem. Upon entering this establishment it was obvious there were some good things going inside, we grabbed a few stools at the half filled counter being all the tables were filled with customers stuffing their faces. I tried to get a look see at what the diners were having, but not wanting to be a busy body I decided to wait on the menu which arrived with a big o' how ya'll doing and whatcha drinking honey - yep I'm in the place I wanted to be. We got here at the transition from the breakfast menu to the lunch menu although most were enjoying their morning meal. Hey I'm pretty easy I'll flip the page and look at what's for lunch. We scanned the options displayed on the worn handmade menus, mine looked like it had been rolled to swat flies (I'm joking) it was clean - while we are speaking of clean the staff were constantly wiping down everything and the kitchen staff was doing the same. Uhm it was only seconds until I found the fried pork chops although fried pork is always enticing I had to ask my friendly server if they were bone-in and she smiled and said of course they are sugar and they are delicious, my search ended at that moment and I ordered two fried crispy, in my opinion rendered pork fat is irresistible I got fries and Lima Bean, we also ordered a hand formed freshly prepared cheese burger I was okay with sharing although a whole pork chop for a half a burger isn't a good trade in my opinion (fortunately she wasn't interested) so I was somewhat relived - okay the pork chops were heavenly I mean almost my MeMa good she fried hers in lard so it wasn't an even playing field but no doubt these are some stellar chops - the Lima Beans were delicious as well but the portion was too small for my liking next time I'm skipping the fries and doubling up on the beans. The burger I'm told was phenomenal (maybe I should of bartered a little harder) it looked amazing and the amount of pickles made it especially good I'm told. My family and I went here for breakfast while in town. We walked in and the lady at the front didn't even acknowledge us until my hisnband asked if we are supposed to seat ourselves or wait to be seated. I had my service dog with me. He was obviously wearing his vest and is trained as well. She said very rudely "Is that a service dog?" To which my husband responded "yes, he is." She then said "do you have paperwork?" My husband responded "yes we do, but we legally do not have to show it to you." She then said "if the health dept comes in they will shut us down." I then told her that I do carry his registry card on me. We decided to leave as she was very rude and made us feel very unwelcomed. As business owners ourselves, we felt like their employees should be trained on ADA laws and we felt like she was treating us poorly because we had a service animal with us or maybe they just rather serve locals? Always good diner food. The specials are daily and tasty. Breakfast affordable and done well. Dinner includes liver and onions and fried chicken. Hamburgers, grill cheese sandwiches and coney hot dogs, as well fish and pork subs are all ways available. Although we got a mushy fried fish sandwich once, they promptly replaced it with my soup of choice for free. The ranch bacon wrapped chicken sub hit spot. Been coming here for years. Today the service was very disappointing. Sat down with my girlfriend and mother. They brought us our drinks and took our orders. We sat there watching other folks come in and sit down and order there food and they were served and finished eating and we still never received our order. I asked one of the waitresses and she said we was the 3rd ticket. Really!! The other folks didn't seem to have a problem getting there food right away. I will not ever return and I will make sure I tell everyone I know how bad the service was and I walked up to pay my bill for my drinks and an appetizer and they still charged me full price and did didn't even apologized. This place doesn't know the meaning of the f taking care of the customer. They don't even deserve the 1 star I had to give them!!! Poor service! read more

I stopped there today for lunch, because of good reviews. Order was taken wrong, had a side order of coleslaw for 2.99, about three little spoonfuls, also ordered side of onion rings, for 2.50, only had five little onion rings about the size of three quarters and two half dollars. Stopped in on the way home from Spring Glen. I love finding spots like this because they can be such a surprise. Unfortunately that is not the case for Mema's. It wasn't awful but it wasn't the gem I had hoped for. I had crab cakes the were decent but the green beans just tasted like they came out of the can. A hole in the wall little restaurant worth the stop. No fancy nothing. The bathrooms are like a broom closet. It just adds to the uniqueness. Just old school greasy spoon type food. We ordered the oyster posted boy with fries for only $7.95. The sweet tea was awesome too. The service was out of this world with very friendly and helpfull staff. Places like this are a treasure.
