The restaurant was very clean. They immediately picked up dishes and cleaned up after people left. I saw the workers scrubbing each chair too, I'll give them a 5 for cleanliness. Our food arrived quick and here's what I thought. We ordered 3 plates, the meatball parm, chicken parm, and a double smash burger, and some clam chowder to start. All the sandwiches had fresh bread, we appreciated that. The Burger was salty and was too big and messy for me. A double is for big eaters, so next time I'd order a single without the "awesome sauce." That sauce might have been what made it taste salty. I liked the chicken parm better but I wish it was more saucy. It was ok. The special of the day, Meatball parm, was the star here and was excellent. It was juicy, saucy enough and flavorful enough. I'd come back for this. Maybe we got a bad batch but the chowder didn't seem fresh and the clams in it were too chewy.. wouldn't order it again. Realistically, this place is a 4.5 in food, but it's owned locally and you can tell the intentionality that went into the food. We got the french dip and the smash burger with fries. Both sandwiches were good, and we loved the homemade fries. they were soo salty (just how i like it) and crispy even with their thickness. I've been wanting to try this sandwich shop for awhile so we decided to stop in while in the area. We arrived a little before noon and found parking to be a little challenging but finally found a space near the center of this small strip mall. The inside of the restaurant was very clean and organized but mostly empty, the staff here was wonderful, I like that you order at the counter and they bring your food out so it's open seating and the menu isn't so large or complicated, picking something is a simple process sometimes less is more when it comes too menus. We ordered the French Dip and the Daily special which were strikingly similar one had added bacon and no au jus, the hand cut fries were absolutely delicious especially served hot from the grease with lots of salt and malt vinegar which was the highlight of our lunch along with the delicious freshly brewed ice tea. The sandwiches we ordered honestly were just okay at best we found the roast beef bland and the excessive amount of the mayo mixtures made these sandwiches slippery and difficult to keep together inside the crusty pressed bread you'll need lots of napkins to avoid wearing these sandwiches. Great sandwich shop in a strip mall. They had a daily special of roast beef dressed with your choice of sauce like bar b q, horsey or mustard or mayo... It came with a cup or a bowl of clam chowder. The chowder was thick and full of good stuff and they made the sandwich just to my liking. I would certainly recommend Fat Paulies. read more

I was somewhat skeptical when we arrived at a strip mall. Literally file this under "don't judge a book by its cover". The staff, Paulie and his wife, Meagan, were pleasant and gracious. I felt like I was invited into their home. As for the food hand down the best we had while in Ormond. I got a regular smash burger but I'll never forget it, delicious. Incredible FRENCH DIP! The Au jus is incredible and so much flavor, not like some places where it tastes like salty water! The bread that it's a pressed panini has a great crust on it and makes it a perfect combo for dipping, I'll never eat a French dip on a soggy hoagie again! The parm truffle fries were also amazing. First time I went had a delicious meatball sub (but didn't see it on the menu this time). Hubs loved the Nantucket Salad with apples, smoked Gouda, walnuts, and a raspberry vinaigrette. This is one of those small Mom and Pop places you hear about but seldom find. My wife wanted Five Guys. I like the place but I always come away feeling I paid too much. And it so freakin' cold you can hang a side of beef from the ceiling and it won't go bad. We did our research - which sometimes does not always work out for the best - and ended up at Fat Paulies. I'm going to skip the ambiance because neither my wife and I care about that stuff. For cripes-sake, we're just lookin' for a hamburger. (Don't look for it at Five Guys either.) We wanted a meal that reflected the cooks pride in his or her work. Attention to every detail. And I wanted a smash burger. Got a double - home style. With a basket of fries and coleslaw. It came out in ten minutes. Piping hot. On a homemade bun. Perfectly executed with fresh lettuce, tomato, onion and an excellent sauce. French fries also made fresh - not frozen. WOWZER! Coleslaw was the real deal. There are many places for a decent hamburger but very few that can make this great American standby the way these folks did.
