I have been coming here for years, and I've seen how this place has changed--and stayed the same! In a recent visit, some of the classic charm is still there even if their old cash register is not! I think it's not trying to chase some form of nostalgia instead of just be itself (there's huge figurines around the property, for example, of Elvis). This is classic diner fare and they do a pretty good job of it. I think their milkshakes are pretty great because they are made with thick ice cream and spun right there. I've been getting the Black Bottom for years. As time has gone by, I think this has slowly become more and more eggy vs hamburger-y. This is a bit of a disappointment, to be honest, as it's very unique to Angel's. The tea is still good. Prices have remained reasonable in spite of the years. Angel's is an old time diner with diner style food. Drive-in, or sit outside at the picnic tables, or inside the dining car. The dining car definitely is the place to sit for the full experience. However, seating is limited and it fills quickly during meal times. Beware-the picnic tables come with a slightly weathered statue of Elvis Presley that may seem creepy to some. We chose to share the black-bottomed burger. It's a delicious mixture of egg, hamburger, cheese, and onions. It's hard to describe but truly tasty. The chili cheese fries were a bit soggy but the chili and cheese were pretty good. The shake was thick and creamy. The extra chocolate syrup was a nice touch. Had to try this place - billed as the oldest diner in Florida (in operation since 1932). It has a true retro vibe - cool dining car, records on the walls, lots of pink. (Restrooms are outside - very clean, very small but cute! Service was great - one waitress was managing all the diners and the takeout orders and did a fabulous job! I ordered the cheeseburger platter (platters come with fries and 2 onion rings). Cheeseburger was good but not real hot, but the bun was cold (my personal preference is a toasted bun). The fries were amazing! A lot of people like their onion rings but I did not care for them - they had an overwhelming flour taste to me. Hubs had the patty melt and enjoyed it. This place was extremely cute. One of those cool old places that didn't disappoint at all. Eye catching stuff everywhere. The place seems very clean as well. My food partner had a great experience, loved the food and the service. For me - I was very excited to see the delicious looking burger (1/2 pounder). Wow! But, here was the thing: I can't do onions and specifically stated no onions, and the server affirmed the order. The sad occurrence was the burger was loaded with extra juicy onions. I called the server back, she was apologetic and took the order back. As she entered the kitchen, I saw her grab gloves and it was at the time, I knew that she was going to mess up (pick the onions off and return it to me). She brought it back - same burger, soaked bun in onion juice (along with all the other delicious stuff) and told me "here ya go". I told her to just take it back and remove it from the check. After a few minutes and after the other diner was done with their meal, the server came back and asked if I wanted a new on cooked without onions (which should have been done in the first place). I opted out. It looked sooooo good, needless to say - I was 100% disappointed at the delivery of the missed cook burger, but more so (if possible) at "picking off" the onions and trying to reserve it. Interesting experience. I ordered a chicken sandwich and fries. - Even if the chicken had been completely cooked (which it wasn't) it would have still been very uninspiring. The fries would have been substandard at just about any burger joint. The service was very very slooooow. If you visit Palatka I am sure there are plenty of other restaurants that will be much more enjoyable... - I'd give this one a wide berth. read more

If you want to be taken back in history and get a true diner feel, this is the place. Had the long diner counter with 45 records in the walls. Only thing missing was the large Juke box. The inside is very small so don't go with a large group of people. The seating at the counter is not made for larger folk and is pretty uncomfortable. The tables barely seat 4. Service was quick and all the food was like real!! The hamburger steak and the patty melts were like something I would have made at home...definitely looked hand and homemade. Nothing was overly salty and everyone enjoyed their selections. It would have been nicer to have an option of mashed potatoes with the hamburger steak but the fries were excellent crisp thin fries with little salt. The sodas were da bomb!! Loved them and we each got two...so we could try multiple flavors. They are a little pricey but were worth the splurge. There are many flavors to choose from and you can even make your own combination. No frills diner and apparently the oldest in Florida. Food was as expected. My lunchmate's burger was really good apparently as I saw it then it was gone. They had a steady line of to go orders and I heard pretty much everything on the menu being ordered. Pork chops, burgers, fish sandwiches - you name it. My catfish dinner was good. Fries probably came from under a heat lamp which is forgivable being we arrived just a few minutes before shift change. I'd return for sure. The sign says since 1932 - There are no frills.  It's dated.  It's old. It's nostalgic. It's probably not spic & span clean but it's doing what it does best - cooking up great hamburgers in a setting that spans generations. Personally I consider these types of places "bucket list" worthily - the staff upfront was energetic and friendly, I felt the kitchen lacked motivation although the food doesn't necessarily reflect this, but it does takes what seems like forever to deliver a couple of burgers and fries plus two onion rings. We grabbed a few stools at the counter (far end near the cash register) there was no waiting but lots of bumping and grinding as people formed a line to cash out or place takeout orders, hey it's a dining car so it's narrow and can be a little claustrophobic. The food - the burgers are old school they're hand formed and the patties are cooked to order so your burger will always be served hot from the grill and constructed with fresh ingredients (no complaints here I loved it) - the burger baskets are served with homemade fries and two premium onion rings, this seems to be the tradition here so it's not either / or you get both. The prices are still reasonable and it's likely this place will always be busy and you'll probably have plenty of time to enjoy one of their handmade shakes while waiting on your food to arrive so relax and take it all in - now that I've been here I have no doubt that I'll return when in the area, the bone-in fried pork chop sandwich is calling my name... read more

We went there for lunch today. I got the flounder platter with onion rings, which I thought was very good. Glad I read the reviews where some complained about not enough seasoning. I asked my server and she says they try to keep seasoning in moderation for customers that have a lower tolerance for seasoning. Then suggested I get the Blackened seasoning- which I did. It was very enjoyable, along with the onion rings. Wife, son and daughter in law all got cheeseburgers, and enjoyed them. Fries did not look as good as my onion rings. Onion rings - maybe a tad greasy, but they totally hit the spot for me today! Wouldn't have changed them. Anyhow - my big tip - if you are like me and like flavor - get the fish with the blackened seasoning for more flavor. I certainly plan to go back again and would recommend it. read more

Since the place is so small, I watched her walk to the window pick up our check and realize our food had been packed up as a to go order. Needless to say once we got our food it was cold! My wife and I try to eat at Angel's Dining Car in Palatka at least once a month. They claim it's the oldest Diner in Florida. It is a great throwback to the old aluminum Diners from the 1950's. Inside it is cozy with a few tables and counter seats. There are picnic tables outside under cover if you like the heat. Most of the time, I order the 1/2 pound hamburger with Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, slice of raw onion with mayo and ketchup. I usually trade there great French fries for onion rings. One great burger. Never been disappointed ! Once I tackled the 3/4 pounder. The burgers are always cooked to perfection. My wife usually gets a patty melt or a burger platter. The burger without the bun covered in fried onions and mushrooms. Both delicious. Angel's also has the best handmade milkshakes around. If you have room after polishing off that big burger. By the way breakfast is great at Angel's too. You just got to get there before 11am. The waitresses are the best at Angel's. They usually are working their tails off because the place is usually hopping. Warning, Angel's is not for the Starbucks crowd. It is a true dive joint. After Ravine Gardens I was more thirsty than hungry but stopped at Angel's Dining Car because the sign said it was the oldest diner in Florida. Couldn't help myself. The tables were full but there was plenty of room at the bar so we sat there and we're quickly provided menus and drink orders. Remember I was thirsty so I ordered a root beer float. Haven't had one in decades so when it came out I thought it was backwards because the ice cream belonged on the bottom not the top. Well, evidently I don't know root beer floats...it was delicious and I drank the whole thing! I ordered a grill cheese from the kids menu with fries and they came out hot and crispy and taste good but the root beer float was my favorite hands down! The place was packed and they had 1/4lb burgers flying out and a plaque that read best burger joint in Palatka for 2020-22. If the patrons ordering them had anything to show about the taste they must be really good! They have the option to eat inside or out, to include from your car. This was another "job site" find for me. I guess more because it was basically across the street from my hotel. Such a unique restaurant deserves a try. I didn't even Yelp this one first. I threw caution into the salty breeze and walked right in. This place definitely had been around a while like they said. Nostalgia is part of the experience. The food was as expected, but the vibe here made it better. I won't say the place is clean, but I wasn't grossed out. It's still a traditional old greasy diner. Stopped into this unassuming dining car one morning as the family & I were headed south. Wasn't sure what to expect as we live an hour away. Let me tell you......I had the BEST sausage & cheese omelette that I've had since moving to Florida 7 years ago. I was about to add salt & pepper to it before I tasted it. I'm so glad I didn't. It was perfectly seasoned. That sausage was amazing. Just a little bit of back heat & the cheese was so creamy. Home fries were to my liking. Clean & seasoned as I like them. I regretfully didn't get a photo but definitely will next time. My daughter had a single pancake & bacon. I was so grateful that it was a reasonably sized pancake. Not the size of a hubcap for a kid. Hubby had ham & eggs. He said it was excellent & felt the ham was locally sourced not food service. Our server (can't remember her name) was hustling hard but was still incredibly attentive. 3 stars ONLY for the food. I have NEVER EVER had bad food from Angels. But. We always order ahead and go in to pick up when it's ready. Always a good experience. The ONE time I tried to go in to sit down and eat, I took a group of friends that were new to the town. Thought i could show them who had the yummiest burgers in town. Sadly, we were treated like a hassle. I guess 6 guests is too many at once for them and they didn't know if the kitchen could handle the order? I really don't know. I have been driving my car and riding my motorcycle past this diner for the last twenty years, and not once have I ever stopped in. I finally decided that this had to be fixed, so for lunch I finally stopped and got some food. Walking in, this diner has definitely been here as long as the sign says. The architecture is old, the roof is sagging, and there is a solid feeling of age about the place. However, this is not bad. Everything was clean and tidy, the aromas of food were good, and the wait staff was friendly. I initially sat at the counter, but a table opened up and I was able to move there instead. I ordered a cheeseburger with some fries and a coke, which is just the sort of thing that you should have at a diner. The coke was there for me from the start, and I did eventually get a refill. The burger and fries were excellent. No pretentious buns, or a burger that stands too tall that you cannot eat it without disassembling it to fit in your mouth. This was just a solid burger that I really enjoyed, and the fries that came with it were good to the end.
