The Butcher's Nook - Mount Dora What a gem! Our family absolutely loved our visit to The Butcher's Nook in Mount Dora. The kids devoured their turkey and cheese "Little Sammy's," while I tried The Nook -- and honestly, it had me dancing in my seat! The combination of sweet and salty flavors with prosciutto, burrata, balsamic, and that unbelievably fresh focaccia was perfection. My husband ordered the Caprese sandwich and added prosciutto -- the pesto and mozzarella were so fresh it tasted like it came straight from Italy. We also loved browsing their selection of sodas, chips, and meats. We even tried imported pesto-flavored chips from Italy -- such a fun and delicious surprise! Everything from the ingredients to the atmosphere felt thoughtfully crafted and full of flavor. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Mount Dora!

Love this sandwich shop, and grateful they have two locations! I sadly don't have any pictures of my sandwiches, I end up eating them before thinking to take a picture!! I highly recommend the Nooky, it is the perfect balance of sweet, salty, bitter and creamy on the perfect proportion of focaccia :) Regardless of what you choose, I'm sure you'll be back again and again!

Trued out the new location in Apopka and fell in love at first bite! I was skeptical about spending $40 on two subs but after seeing the size and getting a taste of the quality I knew I would be doing it again and again! I absolutely love a good Italian sandwich and this place hits all the right notes with their traditional Italian - good bread, fresh meats and cheese as well as a perfect light dressing. We also tried the Diablo which was spicy but PACKED with flavor and again the bread was so soft! I simply can't wait to work my way through the menu.

Who's up for a little Nooky? If you're in Mt. Dora and you want one of the best sandwiches of your life, stop by Butcher's Nook. This simple, but charming little eatery (only 2 years old) has ALOT to offer with their excellent sandwiches and friendly service. Picture it: prosciutto, burratta, grana padano, arugula, EVOO, and fig jam on focaccia. To be clear, I am not a huge sandwich fan but this was one of those one bite, close your eyes and murmur "Damn!" kind of experiences. Nooky, indeed! Aside from wanting everything covered in fig jam from now on, I was truly impressed with this experience. That bread was as close to flawless as I've ever had. Everything was fresh, perfect...delicious. There are different sodas and chips to enjoy your meal with and they offer a reward program where you sign up with your mobile to earn points for a free sandwich. A free sandwich from Butcher's Nook? Now, THAT, my friends, is winning the lottery.

    The Downtown, basically a Reuben.

Such a cute little bistro for a sandwich. Generous portions, and flavorful. Staff was kind, respectful, helpful in choices. I love these small finds.

The steak sandwich in question. Hands down the greatest piece of culinary HISTORY I've ever eaten. Bravo!

I'm a Philly girl and this isn't necessarily a traditional Philly cheesesteak, but I don't care - it was delicious! I've tried several others since we've moved here and this has been the best one. It comes on a delicious long roll, premium chopped steak, fontina cheese and caramelized onions. The sandwich is 10.5 inches long (yes I measured it lol) and it was only $12.50. Jersey Mikes charges more and can't even touch this bad boy. We will definitely be back again. Going to invite my best friend here for lunch soon. We also tried the corn cake - it was only $1 and was so moist. I've had cornbread before, but not corn cake. They have a whole list of other sandwiches to choose from also - I may have to try some of the others, but I'm going to have to get my cheesesteak fix taken care of first. They also sell homemade pasta, salads and all kinds of butchered meat (steak, etc.). Oh and it's inside the market area at Sawgrass Grove in the Villages. If you go around dinner time, you can grab a sandwich and sit outside, get a drink and listen to the live entertainment.

WARNING: Not for my vegan peeps…read more I came into Meat Wonderfood with a delayed opening at another shop we were visiting at this strip mall. It is my birthday weekend and my husband tends to go all out for the entire month. When we came in we were greeted immediately by Alex he was knowledgeable and an amazing guide to the vast offerings available at this shop! In terms of beef this shop has select, prime, and certified wagyu options. I found my birthday steak but with lots of stops throughout our day. They held it for our family until Wednesday when we were back in the area! Everything is vacuum sealed and can last 30 days refrigerated. This is definitely your modern butcher and if you're a meat lover I highly recommend checking out their selection.

I used to patronize a Wonderfood shop on Orange Blossom trail which closed but the new store has a wider selection of items. Cheeses, sausages, cold cuts, spices and sauces. This is a little different from a traditional US butcher but make no mistake they offer very high quality meat. If you are serious about your BBQ or cooking steaks this place is heaven. They also offer advice if you are a novice.

Incredibly disappointed in the TLB. I've been a fan for a long time, especially their dry aged…read moremeats, and am more than willing to pay for this type of product. Today, though, I noticed them selling Japanese Wagyu as: Sake Infused Dry Aged A9 Kobe Strip. This is a very scammy way of selling a product. First, meat is graded broadly on three scales - USDA (choice, prime), BMS (beef marbling scale - common in Aus), and the Japanese grading scale. (A1-A5, with most high end steaks being A4 or the gold standard, A5). https://meatnbone.com/blogs/the-clever-cleaver/meat-beef-grading-system-understanding A9 doesn't exist. A BMS 9 could be an A5. But this is mislabeled. They have also used the term A11 in their instagram account. Maybe they are confusing BMS for A-scale, or maybe they are intentionally trying to make their product seem better than competitors. Furthermore, not all Japanese Wagyu is Kobe beef. Kobe beef refers to Tajima cattle raised in Hyogo Japan. The export of this beef is highly regulated to only certain restaurants and purveyors, who will display a seal and certificate certifying the origin of the beef. It is rare, expensive, and most importantly, Bush Brothers (Local Butcher's wholesale purveyor) is not certified to sell, nor do they use in any way, the term Kobe Beef. So it is incredibly likely that this product is mislabeled. This isn't illegal (Kobe beef doesn't have a TM in the US), but it is disingenuous. https://www.kobe-niku.jp/en/contents/certification/index.html https://instagram.com/bushbros Next, "sake infused"is incredibly confusing. Is it referring to the myth that Kobe cattle are massaged with sake? Is it referred to the use of koji (fermented cooked rice) which is often used as an aging accelerant? Or did they really take Japanese Wagyu and infuse (inject, soak?) with sake? And why on earth would you do that!? It would be like making sangria with a bottle of DRC. This product is likely a A5 strip loin (which Bush Bros. does carry) that has been aged. Market price would be somewhere around $175-185/lb. (An unaged cut would be around $150/lb.) When I asked for more information on the most expensive cut of meat in their shop, I was treated with disdain and a dismissive attitude. Neither member of the staff could answer my questions other than to say "It's the highest grade of Kobe beef." To charge $215 dollars for a grade that doesn't exist, for a steak that isn't from Kobe, with an aging method that seems dubious at best, is disingenuous and plays on a lack of consumer knowledge. If The Local Butcher themselves don't know the differences here, they shouldn't sell this product. If they do, they should be ashamed of themselves.
