Not to mention the loss of a lot of money. Now my vision is WORSE than when I went in for cataract/ lasik surgery. I would never recommend them it is a bait and switch, and swindle operation. Great doctors however recent procedural changes make me doubt continuing to use this facility. Had a follow up appointment with the surgeon. 3 days before the February appointment I received a call that the doctors schedule has changed. The next available appointment is in September. Office experience was terrible. Its a cattle shoot, literally 100 people waiting . Technicians were inexperienced. One had to call a Dr and ask if she can dilate my eyes with contacts in my eyes.. Communication and status of an order is non resistant. read more

This practice is nothing more than an assembly line for eye care. Get them in, get them in the queue, then get them through. They are always behind schedule, but they are tricky about it! The facility is organized in stages- first is a preliminary examination with some dilation, then wait for the next exam which results in more dilation. Then you wait again, but in another queue. After the second wait, you might actually see the doctor. Always packed and always behind. And no personal care. Office staff is professional, but under pressure to make quotas. The care seems competent but is very clinical and cold. And even a routine exam is a 2 to 3 hour time commitment. read more

Mom of four, so that means life can be chaos. So that means I am very organized when it comes to scheduling appointments. For my three older children, I had their appointments booked in advance, and the same doctor canceled on my twins appointment not only once but twice the day before now pushing there appointment now three months later.. My sons appointment we waited over a hour to be seen. Maybe they were just having a bad day I thought but now today on 4/8/25, for my twins appointment we had it scheduled for 2:30. We didn't get taken back until 4:00!!!!!!!!! I pulled my kids out of school early for our 2:30 appointment. If we weren't gonna be seen until 4 o'clock, I could've just kept my kids in school. Asked around 3:20 at the front desk how much longer ..they said they are " short staffed". Sitting there with four kids from 2:30-4:00 Was absolutely miserable and unprofessional. No one even came out to say sorry we are running behind, Will be with you shortly. Not even a check in like hey we're gonna be running two hours behind will that be ok. NOTHING. 0 Communication from staff. I run a business and I would never have my "on time clients" sitting there for two hours of ever actually! . I'm sorry but everyone's time needs to be respected. After the twins got their eye exams, we did not get done and out the room until 4:35. We then proceeded to the checkout area. One is helping a person , two on the computer and one on the phone. Stood in the line for about 30sec again NO communication like we will be with you shortly or anything. At this point, I have zero patience I just walked out. My kids were maxed out as well although they did AMAZING just sitting there with nothing to freaking do!!! Second horrible experience. My son also had baseball that we needed to be there for 5:30 There's no way I'm able to even get my kids dinner dressed and at the baseball field now for his practice in time because I was not expecting to be out at a 2:30 appointment until almost hitting 5pm!!! When my eye doctor's office closed, all her records were sent here, and her associate went with them. So naturally, when I needed a new prescription for lenses, I made an appointment with the former associate. I signed up online and later got a text saying I would be having a "virtual" appointment. How can an eye exam be done online, I wondered. I called and they told me it would be in person. I arrived and checked in, choosing not to use the computerized kiosk. I sat in the waiting area for 35 minutes until I was called. Then I was called by a grouchy-sounding voice and told, "Follow me." At the exam room door, I was told "Sit in that chair." After confirming my identity, I was asked, "What are you here for?" I need a prescription for new glasses, I said. "Oh, we were afraid of that. Dr. X does not do optometry, you have to see one of the other doctors." Why didn't they tell me that when I made the appointment? Instead they gave me business cards for the three doctors who do optometry and sent me on my way. The whole experience was unpleasant, no one smiled, not a word of welcome to a new patient. Why did people who arrived and checked in after me get called before I did? Why didn't they know what I was coming in for? I called today to have my records transferred to another eye care office. I was told the records were all in boxes downstairs (you mean to say that they did not pull my records to review them before my first visit?) and that they "aren't exactly in alphabetical order." But first I have to fill out a request form. Oh, my. I will be glad when I don't have to have anything more to do with these people. read more

I have been calling since November for refills and no return call to me. The pharmacist from rite aid called and no one called her back either. There is now a third party to make appointments so I left information with her about this issue well today is 12/26 and no return calls. Also whatever prompt you push on the Memorial message they are either all full and will hang up or if you leave a message they still don't call you back. I have been going here over 20 years and this year has been a big change for the horrible. read more

Dr. Erik Chotiner is fantastic! However, the practice seems to have too many patients and reschedules appointments frequently. I was originally scheduled for an appointment on October 11,2024, the office called and rescheduled to January 8, 2025. Today they rescheduled the appointment for June 30, 2025, which is 8 months after the original appointment. This unacceptable and I am very disappointed with the lack of patient follow up. read more

I highly recommend Memorial Eye for those of you out there with high prescriptions. Mine was a -9.5 when I went in. Dr. Chotiner and staff were very upfront with me about possible limitations due to the amount of cornea they would need to ablate. I was recently referred to Memorial Eye Institute after a routine examination that uncovered higher than normal eye pressure. During the initial appointment I was diagnosed with Glaucoma (with the left eye worse than the right) and began an eye-drop regiment for each eye. On December 17, the technician conducted a field eye exam on my right eye and took me to an examination room. At that point, I asked her why I didn't get a field test on my left eye. After scolding me, she reluctantly completed the field test on the left eye. It didn't appear that anything was recorded in my medical file. After Dr. Levin's examination and determination to proceed with laser procedure, I was brought to the financial counselor. While in her office, I was not offered the opportunity to sit so I stood while she shuffled folders and explained to a member of the medial team that the fee schedule would change in the New Year. On the day of the scheduled laser procedure, several people congregated in the surgical center's appointment room. While sitting there, one of the medical team members came into the waiting area with a clip board and began to have an open discussion with another individual about his upcoming cataract surgery. When Mariah attempted to have a discussion with me in the open waiting room, I insisted on being taken to a private area. In reviewing the paperwork, I noticed that my name was misspelled. I was given a yellow piece of paper indicating that my follow up appointment was scheduled on January 4, 2022. However, no time was indicated. I called to learn the time and was told that I didn't have an appointment on January 4. When I insisted that I had an appointment scheduled for January 3 to have the procedure on my right eye and January 4 as follow up to the December 20 procedure, I was told that Dr. Levin would complete the procedure and follow up during the same visit. In summary, I have not experienced such unprofessional or disorganized behavior in a medical facility. With each appointment, one can wait upwards of 30 minutes before being seen. The staff seem more concerned about their paperwork than giving patients a good experience. They shuffle back and forth, congregate while you wait without acknowledgement and pay little if any attention to details. It's easy to articulate concerns about the team; however my experience tells me that systemic issues probably exist. In any event, I will not return! read more

Dr. Chotiner isn't in all week, would you want to reschedule your appointment. Then says, he is scheduling into next March. No one ever called me to tell me he was out for the week. A few years ago. I paid thousands of dollars to have lasik done at this place and Immediately after the surgery it was like I had hot sauce in my eyes for 8 hours. Fast forward to now, I got a wood chip in my eye and they refuse to help me. I talked to multiple people who just kept saying to call back once the scheduling office was open. The scheduling person I talked to was useless and even chuckled a little when I mentioned getting in there same day to get my eye taken care of. However my complaint is I was charged ($35) copay for a routine eye exam which my insurance covers for one exam a yr. I was not aware that Dr. Silvetti did any additional services-if he did he did not inform me that he did?If there was a copay I should have been told up front. Had Lasix done many years ago here had great results until I got cataracts. Cataract surgery went well but I was not offered corrective lenses as replacements during cataract surgery. My vision was not as good following cataract surgery and when I went in to request corrective Lasik I was told it would not work although prior to cataract surgery I was told touchup lasix was an option. Now I'm told I need classes. Don't want to switch to glasses late in life I'm not happy about the situation. Beware. read more

I will not be going back. My first visit was fine, and the doctor was great. My second visit was less than stellar. First, you check in at a computer kiosk rather than talking to a person. I have anxiety about doctors, and the best remedy is a personal relationship of trust the with doctor and staff. A kiosk is impersonal and sends the message that I am just a number to them. After checking in, I waited to be called and was hurried in to the first test. That went well. Then it went downhill. In one test, the woman pushed my head hard against the framework of the machine and without warning me, flashed a very bright light in my eyes. When I complained, she got agitated. She did not even escort me to the door. She just told me I could leave. The bright light triggered a migraine that lasted the rest of the day. They scheduled me for another test about two weeks out. I received about seven notifications on my phone, clearly not from a person. They were automatic. Then, about two hours before the appointment, someone called and left a message on my phone saying that they mis-scheduled me and wanted me to come in half an hour earlier, which was impossible for me because of my work schedule and the very short notice. I sent notice that I would then not be coming to the appointment. After they called to get me to reschedule, and after I notified them that I would not be coming, I got another robotic notification for the original time! It was super confusing and very impersonal. I felt like chattel. The office is so busy and confused they have lost sight of the patient as a person. It is a shame because I liked the doctor very much (Dr. Silvetti). He was great, but the procedures there leave a lot to be desired. read more

I had Lasik surgery done here, and maybe it has something to do with all of it being done under one gigantic roof, but it made for one swift, easy and pleasant transition! My whole experience from the beginning to the end was wonderful; from my consults, lasik surgery and post op follow ups. The Facility- Big, Clean and very nice. Just don't...One hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing. Rude from the second I walked in the door between the front desk clerk and the first 'assistant' ... I wasted two hours of my life and never did get my vision checked because they scheduled me with the wrong kind of doctor. And didn't know when they could get me to see the right kind of doctor. Was out of town and my eye really started bothering me like something was scratching my eye. By the time I got home at 3:45, I could not stand it. I called the office crying and told the girl what was going on and told her which doctor I see and she said, it's too late in the day to get an appointment. I said, your website says you are open til 5:00 and its not even 4:00 yet. She replied, when we don't have any patients we close early and besides the doctor you see already left for the day. I said, I don't care who I see, but I need to see someone today with which she replied, I can get you in tomorrow at 10:00. I said, forget it, this can't wait I'll have to go to an urgent care with which she replied, ok. Seriously, you are still supposed to be open for at least another hour and someone calls you distressed and you are closing early because you don't have any patients?? Dr gave me an eye abrasion during surgery & never told me before I left. Waited until I called complaining of terrible pain & tearing that I was told. They should have prepared me before I left and gave me something for pain. Also, everyone else that I know that had cataract surgery got flowers. They had a ton there but didn't give me any. Great eye care specialist. Dr Bennet Choitner has been doing Lasik in the Harrisburg area longer than anyone else. It is more expensive than many of the other locations that offer it, but he has so much more experience than anyone else. Has a free seminar to see if you're a good candidate. I went to them as a teenager every other friday for about 3 years. They really helped me strengthen and train myself. My occular problems were nothing after I was finished here. read more

I have been going to Memorial Eye for a few years now. The staff is pleasant and helpful. The recent renovations to the building are great, too. The waiting rooms are modern, clean, and have big tv's. Most of all, I have to say how pleased I am after ICL surgery in 2015. Dr. Erik Chotiner took great care of me and my vision. After wearing glasses since I was 2 years old, I now have 20/20 vision without glasses or contacts - something I didn't think would be possible. Truly a life-changing experience! Read carefully if you value your eyesight, your money, and your mental health. After evaluating their online presence, I went to the Memorial Eye Institute (MEI) for LASIK with high expectations. After one botched surgery, and numerous follow-ups, here's what I've concluded: MEI is a surgery mill and bastion of mediocracy. The brainchild of Dr Bennett Chotiner, this volume driven fiefdom feels less like a healthcare facility and more like a car dealership. Obviously, many have come away from MEI with desirable results. However, the real measure of a surgeon isn't the number of their successes, rather how they handle their mistakes. If you choose to consult with Bennett Chotiner, I recommend the following: Look the man up and down and ask yourself, "Is this someone that appears to personify excellence"? Then go on to ask him lots of questions pertinent to your procedure, and carefully evaluate every response. Most importantly, ask him how he will support you if you have a negative result, and then ask yourself, "Is this someone I want in my life if things don't go well"? Diligently reflect on all of this and more before surrendering your vision to Bennett Chotiner. Some further notes on Bennett Chotiner: He's very elderly. Not saying you can't be productive in your golden years, but this old curmudgeon is totally driven by his ego and long ago blew his opportunity to retire on a high note. Perhaps most disconcerting of all, however, is Bennett Chotiner's overall approach to medicine, which is very "old school". He's the righteous doctor and you're the lowly patient that should be honored to be in his presence. Furthermore, he clearly rules the clinic with an iron fist and, as a result, his staff walks on eggshells when they're around him, making for a very awkward atmosphere. Shockingly, he still does scattershot, handwritten notes on blank sheets of paper, and works out crucial calculations by hand. And while some may find that charming, few will appreciate that he doesn't wash his hands before interacting with you or touching your face. You'll hear him exit one room, and then enter your room, extend his hand for a handshake, and then proceed to examine you without cleansing his hands or wearing gloves. What's more, on surgery day, I observed him pacing up and down the hall with sterile surgical gloves up to his elbows, going between rooms prepping patients (including myself) for surgery without changing gloves. He very likely wore those same gloves for all his procedures that day. All of his colleagues are well aware of all of this and more, I'm sure, which, in my opinion, makes them all complicit. Some further notes on MEI: The place is huge with a massive staff of worker bees all programed to serve Queen B. Chotiner. In addition to reception, the exam areas and surgical suites, there's also a sales department and finance department (again, think car dealership). What you need to keep in mind is, this all equates to a hefty monthly overhead. In other words, when you walk in the door you have dollar signs floating over your head. Which leads to Valerie Cupp, saleswoman extraordinaire. She has no medical expertise; she's just sales. In a con, Valerie would be what's known as a "cooler" - the person that pushes the product, and then acts to console you when the result is less than desirable. She'll be your best friend until things go sideways. She'll likely be your first contact at MEI if you inquire about LASIK. She'll also be the person that repeatedly asks you to rate & review the Memorial Eye Institute (Sorry for the delay, Val. Hope this will do!). And on that note, I want you to understand something I failed to grasp; the Memorial Eye Institute website, the online reviews, the "Simply The Best" ratings and the like, it's all contrived nonsense. Don't believe me or anyone else. Go in, see for yourself, formulate your own opinions, and then shop around and compare. Between NYC, Philly, Baltimore and DC, you literally have hundreds of world-class options. It's your eyes. It's your vision. Don't settle. Best of luck. read more

I called to make an appointment for my mom and was informed that the copay would be $210 since her insurance wasn't accepted there. The receptionist then took down all of her information and scheduled her appointment. I then proceeded to ask whether I would be able to provide her medication list and medical history over the phone since my mom does not speak English very well and I live 2 hours away and could not take off of work. The receptionist sounded annoyed, started sighing out loud, and told me that I have to be at the appointment with her. I told her my mom does understand some English but just may not understand some more complex medical terminology so they can just contact me during her appointment if she's unable to answer any questions. The receptionist placed me on hold and then returned to tell me that they actually are unable to see my mom because by law, they have to bill her insurance (even though she told me we could pay out of pocket and had the appointment scheduled before hearing that my mom did not speak English well and may need assistance). I felt as if they just did not want to go through the trouble of dealing with this issue and just denied my mom treatment for an acute eye issue out of pure laziness. I am extremely disgusted with this practice for the way they acted today and would NOT recommend them to ANYONE. I don't care how great the doctors may be here, their staff needs to be retrained on how to treat people with respect. read more

I was seeking lenses for frames I had purchased elsewhere, and I was recommended to the optical center in Linglestown. Although all of the staff are very attentive and kind, this didn't remain true throughout my total experience. I worked with a woman, asking for only one specific detail to be included in my purchase- clear blue light filtering lenses. She remarked that the glasses I have been wearing up to this appointment also had blue light filtering lenses, and she would make sure that was added to the prescription when it was ordered. A family member dropped off the frames and paid a week later, to which the female staff member mentioned transition lenses being part of the deal. I denied this, and then called the office the following day, leaving a message to make sure they were aware I didn't want transition lenses. Upon receiving the glasses this week, I was unaware the lenses were still transition type until leaving the facility. I called today to let the same staff member know of the error and ask for them to be redone, to which she essentially insisted I was wrong and even mentioned how she received my message regarding the error, yet still did not do anything to rectify the issue insisting it was "too late" by that point. After leaving me on the line in silence to collect herself, she said they can reorder the lenses, but it would take a week longer. It may have been an unlikely situation, because in person I was very happy with my experience, but I believe this employee had ruined my first impression of the establishment altogether. Make sure you double and triple-check your work before letting them order you the wrong lenses, and then try to gaslight you! read more

For being a first time patient, the place was well organized. Although they are going through a lot of renovations it was pretty easy to get to where I needed to be. I recently called for a normal eye exam as the optometrist I had at Costco in the past had moved to this business. I was quoted 100.00 as i do not have a vision insurance plan. This was to include exam and dilation. When i checked in, I once again told them I did not have a vision plan but they asked for my normal insurance card. The exam and dilation was preformed, then the doctor wanted to do retinal pictures and when i inquired as to price, was told she did not know, however, my wife does them at her optometrist and they were 35, and prior to this appointment I called Lenscrafter and their complete eye exam was $98, 59 for exam only, 74 if dilated, and 98 for exam, dilation and pictures, so i guess-timated the pics should be approx 30-45. When i was checked out, I was asked to pay 35, which i assume i would be billed the balance, shame on me for not questioning. I then received a bill a few days later for an additional 222, which when i inquired, was told this was submitted as a medical procedure, 170 for the exam, and 95 for the pictures. I was told the 100 original price was only if i had no insurance, which i assumed to be vision, as i have never submitted against medical insurance for any previous eye exam. Then when i contacted billing, I was told the 100 was only for a follow up visit but since i had regular insurance and was a new patient, i was charged 267 total. I once again tried to get resolution but was told the office manager was out and would be back the following Monday, i called and left her a voice mail, but have not heard back. My advice is if you need eye surgery this is probably the place to go, but i will never again schedule a routine eye exam here. read more

Memorial Eye has the worst customer service in Central PA. Deanna Gergal the "Refractive Surgery Coordinator" messed up our appointment first of all. Then the surgery was not done right in Camp Hill. It was so bad that we had to go with another company for Lasik and are still fighting Memorial Eye for payment. If you are thinking of getting lasik done please go anywhere but Memorial Eye or you may be very sorry you did. read more

Why book an appointment at a specific time if you don't get seen until two and a half hours later. This seems to be the common experience for everyone who goes there.
