BCOM is one of the first places I became acquainted with when I decided to migrate from the world of buying computers off the shelves of major stores, to custom-built boxes. It is not a place for a novice computer geek to go, however. When you walk through the doors, it is sort of assumed you already know what you are doing. While there is plenty of staff, they are not all that helpful. It is best to go there knowing what you need. Or, if you would prefer, you can buy one of BCOM's pre-built models, which kind of moots the point in coming here in my opinion. The prices for both complete systems and components are reasonable. The service work is very inconsistent. When I bring my computer to move my 1TB information to the 1TB SSD. It took about 2 days in October. When my friend want to do the same thing in December, It took more than 4 days. read more

I like this place, the customer service is ok and the prices are always better than most places. Nothing fancy but thats not what I would expect from a store like this. if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg for computer accessories and do not mind a no frills atmosphere then this is the place to shop. read more

My advice is to go to Memory Express instead (137 Ave and St. Albert Trail). ME provides better selection and service. In addition, the ME website is far more useful for browsing. At Bcom, I've found the staff be be not so helpful and the selection is quite limited in some aspects (video cards, for example, are limited to very few brands and models). read more

When it comes to computers, I'm a Windows desktop guy. I've been prejudiced against Apple ever since I got thrown out of aApple store after sending an early Mac into catatonia. Nothing Apple has produced since then has changed my opinion. They make underpowered toys sucking up bandwidth, suitable for Twitter but absolutely useless for business purposes. I grew up from DOS applications and went for a Windows computer when I set up my own business. So, you have to understand where I'm coming from when I talk about BCOM. This isn't the place for Macheads or casual users of Windows computers. This is a great place for serious computer lovers who want to expand their system, set up a network or find the right fan for their hot-running quad processor. They've got all kinds of hard-to-find cables, connectors and parts. They have all the building blocks for a computer that's exactly what you want, not what some guy in California thinks he can market. Unlike Memory Express, the good stuff is out on shelves, not behind a desk and guarded by nerds, so you can read the specs and see whether it will fit your application. I really must disagree with other reviewers that BCOM's staff are unhelpful. I've always found the staff approachable, helpful in locating things and readily know the answers. If they don't, they'll look it up on the manufacturer's website for you. When the power supply on my old computer fried, the BCOM guy worked with me for half an hour to find the right power supply at the right price that would work for me. When you buy a component, they'll install it for free and make sure it works. When you buy something at Memory Express, all you get is a pat on the bum as they send you out the door. My email to them says it all. They never replied: I went to Bcom Westend yesterday afternoon anticipating walking out with a new ASUS laptop (the one you have on special). I just wanted to take a look at it first. Much to my dismay, there were none on display. I asked to see one and was told that they do not have one to show as they are just a small company??? I am not sure what that meant but I assume it has to do with warranty or something? If it was explained to me it may have gone over better but I was basically given the brush off (Can't show one to you, won't show one to you, go away). Its too bad because I was ready to buy. DO NOT GO HERE - DO NOT PURCHASE THE WARRANTY - COMPLETE SCAM! Terrible customer service. I purchased a tablet in January 2012 from the west side store (I live near the south store but was not in stock)... 2 months later, the screen stopped working with touch capability, it only works if you use the stylist. It's a common error, there are many message board, and even youtube video's of the issue... I'm also an A+ tech, and an ex-employee of Dell (they shut down the site in Edmonton). So having purchased the extended warranty. I went in to the south store to see if they could order me another one. I was in the area and thought they could pull my information from the system like memoryexpress. As with memoryexpress I never need the receipt for my warranty claims, they just scan the serial number and away we go. NOT BCOM... I was told they don't have a technician on site, and if I purchased it at the west store I have to go there... I said the warranty and receipt clearly say I can go to either one.... they said you don't have the receipt with you and even if you did we can't help you here, you have to go to the west store. So I left, regretting purchasing from BCOM. As it is no where near like memoryexpress or even futureshop.. I have done the same thing at futureshop as well. So I called the west store and was speaking with the customer service rep. Explained that it's a special order tablet, and wanted them to order me another one so that I can bring it in, and do a quick swap. He said that was not an option, as they would have to look at it first and determine what the problem is then they could replace it... but I guess someone was listening as he asked me to wait on hold... so I waited... he then came back and said that I would have to bring it in, they would OSRI it, check for issues again.... if the problem was still there then they would send it to the factory for repair... this would probably take at least 60 days, and they might be able to give me a loaner tablet while I'm waiting "MIGHT" I need this tablet for work. at the time it was the only tablet with windows 7 on it.... I was outraged and said that I purchased the warranty for replacement not to get refurbished unit. Sending to the factory for repair is refurbishment... if I wanted a refurbished one I could have saved 54% and just bought one in the first place... as I paid 1300 for a new one.... He explained that is the policy.. I said you just said 10 minutes ago that it would be replaced... he apologized and said he was mistaken... So I asked what the warranty was for then? because its' a tablet you can't just replace the screen... they would be giving me entirely refurbished unit if they send it to the factory.. I explained no one else does this with the extended warranty's.. he again said, that I have to bring to the WEST Store... wait 2 months to get my 2 month old tablet refurbished... even though the warranty says they don't refurbish stuff... So having calmed down... and thinking I just wasted 1600 dollars... After being so angry I finally said.. why don't I wait till the 1 year warranty from ASUS is up, and then BCOM will have to give me a new one? how about that? Silence on the line for a while.. I said so that's what I'll do then.... I received a call later that night that I could return it to the south store... All I said was "ok"... being that I'm so angry with BCOM... I have been waiting and hoping that they won't go out of business before my warranty expires. As they now don't carry much for tablets.. or nothing that compares to what I purchased. So I'm not sure what to do at this point... It's frustrating to use the tablet now... I barely use it for work because I can't type on the screen I have to use the stupid stylist to hit each key manually... and the pointer is out of sync... The extended warranty was 300 dollars by the way... Having used Memoryexpress warranty 3 times now... each time walking in, scan the item.. yep warranty... let me check the device.. 5 minutes later.. yep no good.. I will go get you a new one... I had to wait 1 day one time... but again, received a brand new item. I purchased a tablet from memoryexpress as well... opened the box, and the SCREEN WAS DAMAGED... WENT BACK AND THEY REPLACED IT... I did not damage it, but I could have.. and they gave me a brand new $2000 tablet I returned same day.. maybe that's why.. I don't' know.. I buy the warranty on everything I purchase. I will never purchase anything again from BCOM Memory Express will price match. So there is no need to go to BCOM... read more

BCOM is like Memory Express. It stocks everything in store for assembling your own computer. The prices are very good, but you need to know what you're doing, 'cause these guys aren't going to explain it to you. They're not big on answering questions are helping you understand anything. So you need to know how to assembly already if you want to buy parts from them and get anywhere with it. The staff isn't mean, just not exactly helpful. They do, however, sell fully assembled systems if you're not computer savvy. This used to be the only place in town to buy components for a computer until Memory Express showed up and did what BCOM does, but better. All ME's prices are about 2% lower, but BCOM has a good website with prices listed and occasional specials posted. Also, at BCOM you can get stuff that's OEM (original equipment from manufacturer) which means it doesn't come in the proper packagin with the manuels, etc, but it's cheaper. So you can save if you know what you're doing already. read more

They have the strangest computer related items at a fair price. The guys behind the counter are fairly knowledge. Otherwise, you can always get a second opinion from the guys behind the service counter. At the least, you don't get the cold shoulder like what you would get from Future Shop or BestBuy when you are only pickup a $15 mouse. My two cents ... read more
