Visiting Memphis from Minnesota and I was referred here by my friend. I'm so glad I came here…read morebecause I had a great experience getting my haircut! Ben was very fast but still incredibly precise, and his professionalism showed throughout the entire time. I have a lot of hair and didn't have any specific cut in mind so I told him to freestyle my haircut, he took the time to ask what styles I liked and how I normally style my hair before getting started. He also gave great suggestions that fit my preferences. The final result turned out even better than I expected. I highly recommend him if you're looking for someone who's skilled, attentive, and knows exactly what they're doing. The salon was really clean and spacious.

I'm so glad a friend recommended New York Hair Salon to me -- specifically Ben, the owner. If I…read moreremember correctly, he moved from New York to Memphis over ten years ago. The salon is located in a plaza with a private parking lot that offers plenty of spaces, shared with a few other businesses. I'd recommend coming early when the salon opens or visiting on a weekday morning to avoid long waits. Even with an appointment around noon on a Saturday, my wait time was about 45 minutes. Weekends can get quite busy! Ben's technique is exceptional. I was thoroughly impressed with the entire process -- from the hair wash to the blow-dry finish. There are two other stylists (both male) who also do excellent work with both women's and men's hair. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of service you receive (photo is attached for pricing). Would I come back? Absolutely.

You can tell these gentlemen work hard at their craft and Chris proved that with my son. My son has…read morevery course thick hair and with a failed attempt somewhere else I knew a gentleman's cut would do the trick. I had heard good things about this place and we loved the banter and atmosphere. My son is 9 and isn't a fan of having his haircut. He's great to sit still and be respectful but he'd rather be playing xbox, of course. Even a week later he was STILL telling me how much he loved his haircut. It was a little pricy for my 9 year old at $29 but understandable since I believe his hair takes just as long to cut as an adults. Going back will be a treat at that price for him but we will DEFINITELY be back. Bring cash and give yourself time to wait. This is a barber shop not your mamas house. Be respectful and it will be returned. These men traditionally serve whoever comes in first. Thanks Chris!!

My dad, brother, and boyfriend go there to get their hair cut. My dad never has anything bad to say…read moreand is always happy with his haircut. He also thinks the price is good considering you're getting a good cut (at least for him and my brother). If you want a cheaper cut, you can go to Sports Clips, where they will probably butcher your hair... as for the cash policy it's not that big a deal unless it's your first time going there and you didn't know. He says the atmosphere is manly and friendly, as well as multiracial (someone else in the reviews mentioned that they were one of the very, very few barbers here to know a white mans hair) which makes it a rare gem :)

BEWARE DO NOT COME HERE. The way they treat their customers is unacceptable. And their work is…read moreTERRIBLE. I paid $300 for a shit job. I showed them a picture and they said they could do it. After the terrible work and after immediately complaining (while I was still there FYI), they told me that they weren't able to replicate the picture I showed but that they did what they could do. The manager, Yadira Lopez de Téllez, added that they "weren't a machine" and that they "weren't God". She said she would fix the roots to a darker shade to try to give me the look I was going for but that she wasn't able to fix the ends which were way too light (I wanted caramel and it came out blonde). I was clearly not happy. She told me I should go to a different salon to get it fixed. Why? Probably because she knew she fucked my hair up and that she wasn't experienced enough to fix it. After leaving the salon, I noticed the back of my tshirt was fully bleached. When I complained about my shirt, I was told I was probably moving too much and that it was my fault. An experienced salon would be smart enough to not ruin their customers shirt. I left with lines throughout my hair. No blending whatsoever. When I went to complain again, since it was still terrible (FYI I did end up going to the suggested salon and they charged me $100 and weren't even able to fix the mess the first lady did) they treated me like trash. They said it was a miscommunication. And when I told them that I went to another salon as they suggested, they were mad and said I shouldn't have done that EVEN THOUGH THEY SUGGESTED IT. And after arguing for 30 minutes (they were EXTREMELY RUDE, I was even told to "shut up", defending themselves as if they did a great job but I refused to back down) they finally returned me HALF OF WHAT I PAID. Half is unacceptable for the job that they did. They should have fixed it or given me ALL MY MONEY BACK. Terrible work, terrible employees, terrible pricing. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND PICK A DIFFERENT SPOT.
