I had a horrible experience at the Pavo Salon in Laurelwood. Lauren Watts convinced me to get hair extensions and did a horrible job. The owners were not cooperative in refunding $ for gift cards I purchased to mitigate the cost of the maintenance for the extensions. Friends and family agreed that the cut was not blended, and it resembled a mullet. I am very unhappy. This is the first negative review I have ever posted about any company. I went to Pavo and during my consultation, discussed wanting ashy/silver hair (attached is a photo of what I wanted) I'd had it done several times before, and it took an average of two sessions normally. The stylist (would rather not name as they were sweet and I don't feel like ruining their reputation) said that they could definitely achieve the color I was looking for in two sessions. Unfortunately, what I got was chunky patches of brassy orange color with zero blending. Especially in the back the color was so far down it looked like it hadn't been done in months. The stylist assured me that with enough purple shampoo, the brassiness would be toned to the ashy silver I wanted. It's been less than two weeks, but I've had this color done enough times to know that no amount of purple shampoo can help when it's this orange and dark. I'm sorry but for $550, I expect a lot more than the embarrassing color job I was left with. I requested a partial refund and did not want to go back to get it fixed bcs I feel like they don't know what they're doing there and I didn't want my hair to get botched further. I tried to call and sent an email with photos explaining what happened and requesting a refund, but have received no response. I'm pretty upset with the way Pavo has handled this, and I'm disappointed in the lack of training and skill present at Pavo especially considering how much they charge. Pavo salon really needs to teach their staff to take care of their mess! I went there three times, with total spending around 650$ to get to fifty shades of red ,orange to yellow! I tried to come back to fix it but I did not see anything more than ignoring my calls. Anyway, I ended up going another hair salon and had to go back to black hair. update to the owner's reply: I can simply add a screenshot of my last payment of 200$ plus tips and a screenshot of my calls to the salon to this review! Jessica M does my hair and I have to admit, she is the ONLY person in my 24 years of getting cuts that has never disappointed me. From the first time I met her and came in a nervous wreck about getting a drastic (maybe a drastic to me only) cut, she has heard out every little bit of what I wanted and executed it perfectly. I have since been back and every single time she always stuns me with her talent and her ability to listen and do exactly as envisioned. This salon totally ruined my hair , I made a hair appointment with them because they're rating themselves top notch but wasn't too sure about this salon for some reason and didn't go to my appointment that day but about a week later I get a text message telling me I had a appointment ,I didn't reschedule myself so was like ok well I'll go in see what they're about so I went in to have a consultation , told her I'm a dark blonde and can you dye my hair without damaging it to a dark blonde close to my natural color on the roots and put a little color through the bottom but don't cover all my blonde bottom pieces up , she was like yes I can so I was like ok and made the appointment , I was getting nervous thinking about going in but I went in anyway big mistake thinking she's the stylist and should know what colors to use to get a dark blonde and the whole time I was telling her I didn't like violet dye before she even mixed the color so she proceeded to mix my colors not telling me what she used 10 grams of violet she admitted later after I called to complain about it being purple, when she was done with my hair , I told her it's redder than it was , I told her I wanted a color that didn't pull no orange and was close to my natural color when we was done my hair was redder and copper , I immediately complained and even went outside to show her that day , when I got home I noticed it was purple looking at it really good with lots of red , copper, and purple dull color , I called the salon next day to complain and told them I'd be back after my vacation on the 20 th because she did my hair on a Friday to show them this awful color , the hairline of dye they use is doesn't produce a pretty colors at all or they don't know how to use them is what I'm thinking practicing on peoples heads , then I called the owner left a message told him I wouldn't be trusting her to mixing hair dye and she shouldn't be doing hair in the message if this is what clients get the owner or so called manger called me back and was yelling telling me she used the right dye color for dark blonde, I wasn't getting my money back yelling , I'm like are you not going to listen to me my hair isn't blonde it's purple and not hearing me out at all so I got upset and told him now you need to hear me out , he told me I wasn't getting no money back told me I loved the color even though after she was done when I left not , I complained went outside to show her how red and purple it was but he said I loved it that day , I'm sure it's all on camera she even applied the hair dye unprofessionally on all over basically , I started doing my research on this salon researching the owner and I feel like I was targeted because they kept seeking me out to come in for some reason because I missed that first appointment on purpose, I researched the owner afterwards I had a gut feeling about this salon why didn't I listen , I should've done my research, I wish I'd stayed far away , they're rating themselves top notch but not in my book , I'm stuck with this hair , I know for 2 yrs which is very depressing that a salon owner could find this acceptable is beyond me. I don't even like the color purple , we own our own business also and if I did this to one of my customers they'd sue me and make me pay for the damages , but we're professionals we stand by our work , if my hb cussed one his customers out for putting the wrong color materials down , he wouldn't be in business very long , my hair can't handle no more color and they are acting like it's all about money,they think a little refund is going to fix this easy to say when you're not the one stuck with it money can't replace this botched job top notch I think not and I suppose to be nice about it , I'm thinking about hiring a lawyer the more I look at it . Also I noticed she made my appointment on a Friday on purpose at 12:00 and by the time I got home they was closed that day it's like she knew what she was planning to destroy my hair $275 for a horrific job . I'd paid them $275 to stop calling if I'd know this money hungry unskilled calling this top notch is a joke . This salon needs to invest in another hair line of hair coloring because the colors are horrible and they don't know how to tone at the bowl to cancel tones here either and charge way more than a skilled salon just because they got that spa next door don't mean nothing when your stylist can't formulate correctly. read more

I love Pavo! I have yet to have a bad experience. I was a little traumatized from my last hairstylist at a different salon, who did the exact opposite of what I asked her to do, but trust has been restored in my new hairstylist, Bree! I've been to her 3 times now and she is consistently amazing each time. She found the perfect shade of blonde for me and gives me great recommendations for what we need to do each visit. She's honest and I love catching up with her! All of the hairstylists there seem to provide the same exceptional service as Bree does. It's a clean salon with simple, yet chic decor. Apparently Pavo has won the best hair salon in Memphis for five years straight now, and I'm not surprised at all! Highly recommend. read more

Frustration has been building re Covid mandates, and I let that frustration vent when there arose several unavoidable roadblocks yesterday to my purchase. After recently moving to Memphis I was encourage to find so many of my friends recommended this salon. However, after spending nearly six hours in KAITLYN's chair and undergoing three separate hair color treatments (two of which were "corrections") I won't be going back to the Midtown establishment for future hair appointments. Although I scheduled an appointment for cut and custom color, specifically balayage, my hair looks like a toddler painted tiger stripes in it. Additionally, the stylist spent so much time trying to correct my hair color that she didn't even try to style my hair at the end of the appointment. She used a flat brush and hair dryer and called it a day then proceeded to charge me the full amount for color plus two additional shine and moisture enriching treatments that were never explained to me. I also had to ask Kaitlyn to clean the color stain off of my face and she kept commenting about having to wipe off all of my makeup in order to do so. Her work was extremely sloppy and you should avoid going to her for custom color. I spoke with the salon owner several times that day and he was pleasant, knowledgeable, and professional. He even tried to coach the stylist on how to place color on my hair and what blend of colors to use to achieve my desired look based on the picture I provided at the beginning of my appointment. I'm giving this salon a one star because Shawn was the only glimmer of light in this entire experience. read more

I had my hair cut by JESSICA back in July and LOVED her work. She gets long, straight-ish hair and gave my bicep-length locks SOFT layers that fell gracefully and grew out beautifully. She has some uncommon tricks up her sleeve that gave my hair a really natural look, even with minimal styling (although this cut made me WANT to style!) She was so patient with my bangs debate and ended up giving me some gorgeous, soft, short face-framing layers. As someone who was (not anymore thanks to her!) still looking for an ideal flattering cut for my face, I loved that she was willing to talk through it with me and hear my ideas. I had a cut by a different Pavo stylist today and am not digging it...she left my ends and layers looking chopped and blunt everywhere, totally missed me on my requests for soft ends and blended lines. And that goes for the long curtain bangs I asked for, too, which are anything but blended despite the photos I showed :(. Could've gotten this cut at FS. Blow dry was subpar...now I'm just moping. HOWEVER, both experiences gave me great personalized tips on Aveda products and a lovely wash, scalp massage, and aromatherapy! Go to this salon - just choose wisely to find a good fit and know that higher rate doesn't mean better stylist/fit for you! Can't wait to return to Jessica! read more

LOVED my experience at Pavo! I was completely thrilled with how my stylist, Beth, cut my hair! I cut off a huge chunk of hair and cut bangs for the first time ever. After having long hair down to my lower back for years, this was my first time in years going short, and this is the shortest it's ever been. I was so, so nervous, but I let Beth do her thing and I couldn't be happier!! I really appreciated her genuine attention to my concerns and desires with my haircut. Her listenting really showed with the final result. I went to another salon to get my bangs trimmed and sadly, they left my bangs looking horrible. LOVE Aveda products and the way they smell, a total splurge but sometimes you just have to treat yourself, the Rosemary Mint hair products are great! Facials by Kelsey are AMAZING! If you are serious about exfoliating, and you should be, you need to do the dermaplaning ; it involves a scalpel so my first time I was a little nervous but Kelsey had me relaxed in no time. I'd say a microdermabrasion is the closet "mainstream" thing it feels closest to and it's just as effective as a chemical peel but without the downtime. But the regular facial is great too, I love getting the mask, makes my skin feel so great. I've also had the eyelash extensions done, I really enjoy the look for special events and the application is comfortable and doesn't take too long. Overall the prices here are pretty standard for a nice salon but the high quality products make it a good value IMO. If I didn't already have someone I'm loyal to elsewhere for hair I would use this as my one stop shop for all my beauty needs. read more

I do really like this salon environment and convenient location. I like online booking and testing Aveda products. I've been here a few times with no issues. I made a 10:30 appointment in advance. I arrived at 10:20. "She'll be right with you. Five more minutes," the front staff kept saying. I appreciated their optimism and them trying to do their job of selling me products. However, after a while, it got old. At 10:45, I asked if someone else could see me. "No, we're completely booked because of the holiday." I'm not sure why my appointment is any less important than everyone else's? I left at 10:55 and went elsewhere. A 35-minute wait is way too long! read more

Sarah Coward is a hair life changer. She gives the best service I've ever received and I find myself going back more often just because she makes me feel so amazing every time I walk out. She has given me high lights twice with a 3rd pending appt and I waited to review till she gave me a cut and she is so talented she thinned out my thick hair, respected my wishes by taking off the minimum necessary to get my hair looking healthy. I am growing out a long bob and she had great ideas about what to do now to get ready for my next look. I try to change my hair up a few times a year with the cut/color and I look forward to letting Sarah take the reigns since she is also very talented and 'styling' your face and what would look good on you. She also patiently taught me how to curl my hair more efficiently. The entire salon is clean, smells terrific, and the staff is accommodating in making you feel comfortable. They give you a head massage at the washing bowl and also a little aroma therapy. I have never been an Aveda fan until I bought the dry hair spray- it works very well and serves a few purposes as a dry shampoo and hair spray. The best salon I've been to in Memphis. I saw Anna and loved what she did with my hair. The prices are a little steep, but you're also paying for a very nice salon, the great products they use, and someone who really takes the time to get you what you want. I'm trying to go back to my natural color, and Anna worked with me to get it there. Very nice staff and a huge selection of products to buy or browse while waiting for your appointment. My only problem was some consternation over my curly hair - I don't wear it straight often (like, less than twice a year) but a lot of straightening products were pushed on me. I get that those are trendy products, but a little respect for natural hair texture would be nice. That said, Anna cut my curls really well, and now that I've gone once I think explaining that will be less of an issue. read more

This is a very nice salon! They offer all kinds of hair and spa services. The receptionists are very welcoming and upon arrival of your appointment, they offer you a complementary beverage.
