Went to Menards looking for an octagon strut washer. Could not find it. Was told to go to electrical. Could not find it. Was told to go to hardware. Could not find it. I asked an associate. Was told over there (over there is a large place). I asked again and was told l- we do not carry it. Also needed a bracket. I found that. Sticker on shelf says $2.07. Registers chard me over $5.00. I went to customer service (ya right?!). Three people talking amongst themselves with their back turned to me. She does not say a word. I told her I was over charged. I showed her a picture of the bracket above the price. I was told the bracket must had been placed in the wrong spot by some customer. Not their fault. I showed her the entire box is in the wrong place. Who ever stocked the items put it there. She said, sorry not our fault. read more

I seem to have a decent experience most times I come here. I've run into staff members having disgusting conversations out in common areas multiple times though which I don't really want to hear. If they want to talk about private conversations do it where customers don't have to hear it. The one time they came around the corner and you could tell they were surprised to see me there because of their expressions and they walked away quickly and it just made for a very very awkward moment and I don't want to have to be subject to that when I'm shopping. Other than that I had a good experience when needing help picking out a vanity for my bathroom and scheduling a delivery & the employee helping me figure out how to pick it up when it was in. He was super helpful & had a lot of patience! The 11% rebate that all Menard's have is a nice bonus if you spend enough or shop here enough too when they have it! read more

Absolutely horrendous treatment by Richard, store manager. He refused to help stating his assistant manager was helping (she was trying but getting nowhere). I am owed $245.22 from a voided transaction on 4/22. It's been a month and no refund. Richard states I need to be "more patient" then hangs up. Is a month without $245.22 not being patient? Terrible representation Richard, you should consider a position without customer contact. read more

I use to prefer this menards store over all others until they remodeled. Before this store was remodeled the staff didn't hide from you or act like you were bothering them at work. My name is Cheryl Hunt. I purchased what was tagged as a 10x10 shed, on closeout, at the Menards on 183rd Halsted, Homewood, IL. I was told that we had to load the shed, on our own, because they had sold it twice but had to refund the money because they were unable to get it loaded. With that information, I paid the $400, Closeout price, for the shed and my Fiancé Henry Davis returned on Saturday with the trailer and crew to load it. On Saturday, I contacted a contractor to pour the foundation so that we could install it properly on our property. The contractor measured the shed and found that it is NOT 10x10. It is a 10x6 shed and it is NOT wide enough for our riding lawn mower and other items to fit comfortably. My Fiancé contacted the store and was told, by the Manager, that there was nothing they could do. This was a total FALSE ADVERTISING Scam. I have been a LOYAL customer at Menards for MANY years! It is despicable that the store was unwilling to replace this Shed, per our request, with a 10x10 shed as advertised. I would think that a large retailer, like Menards, would not stoop to SCAMMING their customers to make a profit. This is an attempt to allow Menards, to do the right thing! But I will contact the Better Business Bureau and the media outlets, if necessary, to shine more light on this situation. We Just Want A 10x10 Shed, as advertised and purchased!!!!! so i come in to this store because i just moved to the area. i'm a middle aged caucasian male who's never been in trouble for theft in my life. i come in first thing i put in my shopping cart is a 100# + toilet then go looking for wax ring and putty knife. then go to home and garden for some fencing (to stop my dog from going into neighbors yard) and lastly a pocket knife. i've left my cart numerous times in middle of store throughout my visit sometimes in upwards of 10-15 minutes at times....i proceed to pay for all my stuff and a piece of fence got caught in the cart so i picked up the toilet and asked her to untangle it. she got it and when i put the toilet back it concealed the knife to where i didn't see it. didn't think anything of it and began to look at my receipt for the knife that i thought i put in cart didn't see in cart and didn't see in cart so i figured 1 of the times i left the cart someone took it out. maybe they needed it more than i did i thought! i proceed to leave the store and am stopped before i can leave with you didn't pay for this. eye in the sky saw where knife went but i didn't. he moved the toilet and pulled the knife out and stuck me in a room and took my ID card stuck me in a room and closed the door and left me for a solid 10 minutes. tried to give me the option of paying $200 going up to $1000 after 14 days! or calling the police. i'm innocent at this point because i've never left the store! they tell me if i don't sign it they gonna charge me with theft of a $15 knife. i just paid for $248 worth of merchandise and i'm gonna steal a $15 knife! cops come and they say they ain't gonna arrest me because i never left store with merchandise but they detained me for 30 mins+ lost a good paying customer for life and lost the $248 in sales as before i left i told them i don't want any of this crap anymore read more

I perceive Menards trains its staff to help people. Very unlike Home Depot that does not have the same energy to help customers. I have been patronizing this Menards for years and have experienced a culture of helping and assisting . I once experienced a very rude associate . I went to the manager on duty and explained my experience . That associate is no longer at the store . Just this week a young associate helped me purchase a lawnmower. He took the time to help me and was not in a hurry to get back to his other duties until I was satisfied. And then the process of getting the mower loaded into my vehicle was fast and polite . This Menards has me coming back. read more

The reason I love Yelp is because it gives me an opportunity to express my feelings about my experience at any venue...good or bad. I appreciate that. I've been coming to this Menards for years. And the store is always very organized, and most times I find what I am looking for. I am in the middle of home repairs and so I've made quite a few trips here over the past couple of months. A particular worker, Tia I think is her name, was very friendly and helpful. My fiance and I purchased a 2x4 online and when we went to the store to pick it up, we realized that it was the wrong size. We had to exchange it and the process was cumbersome. Tia, in the return department, was helpful and patient. She processed the return, and even attempted to lift the lumber in an effort to assist. She was pleasant and friendly. Quite frankly, I will always shop here because, well, it is Menards and I like to "save big money" lol. But, it is always nice to receive good customer service and I wanted to acknowledge that. read more

Big box stores are not celebrated for their customer service. We were doing a large landscaping project at our home today and my spouse asked me to do a mulch, topsoil and compost run. I chose to go to Menards. My daughter and I loaded six bags of black mulch, two bags of topsoil and a mushroom compost on to a flat cart. After being greeted by Patricia at the cashier station of the Garden Center, my first question was whether they offered help loading the vehicle, as I am, as the French say, "une femme d'une certain age" (fancy for old!). She replied yes and called for a carry-out. We were met at the door by a very polite young man who took over pushing our flat cart. I drive a Forrester and that young man used Jenga-worthy skills to get everything in the trunk area of my vehicle without obstructing my view. Menards, if you are reading, here's your challenge; find that young man and promote his customer service philosophy all around your building! read more

I prepaid for a ordered counter-top. I became ill. When I was better, I called to store and told them what happened and that I had misplaced my receipt, because I had. They told me that I would have the find the receipt. It took me sometime to find the receipt. Months. When I finally did, I called the store. They told me to come in and bring the receipt. I did. The said that they couldn't find a record of the purchase. I was very unset. I took the problem to BBB. The problem was never resolved. Not pleased then, not pleased now. I want my money back.
