The staff has no clue but they get their indifference and lack of basic customer service skills from their management so they are not completely to blame. Unfortunately I can't really review Menards from a home improvement perspective because I'm never in charge of that specific shopping. Though I made a Home Depot stop just prior to coming and felt the prices may be slightly cheaper at Menards. The biggest difference is the one stop shop atmosphere Menards has created. Post Black Friday, they had many remaining items at the same Black Friday deals which was very exciting. My highlight was great quality fleece lined leggings! I could only find 2 smalls and I snatched them up. Considering how much I wear leggings and prefer fleece lined ones for extra warmth, no matter how long they hold up, they will be well worth my $3 a pop. Years prior, my mom has scored very cute pashmina inspired infinity scarves for $1.50 a pop which are still going strong for me today. She's also brought home a carry on luggage spinner for $15 which is insane. Also still going strong. On random occasions they'll have a really great deal on brand name body washes or shampoo available at any big box or pharmacy retailer. I've also picked up candles by Glade and other household items at a deal. If I needed something for home improvement purposes, the one stop shopping would make Menards slightly more appealing than the Home Depot. read more

One must remember that big box stores mostly lack knowledgeable employees do to turnover, so you have to know what your looking. After many years as a customer, I have given up on this location. I had to return 3 items in the last week due to missing parts. Two of the items had obviously been re-shelved after someone else had returned them. Only, this was only apparent after the package was opened and it was easy to see that the original packaging was not in order. This means the store went out of their way to make the product look new by taping and zip tying the exterior to make the exterior look original. Either they didn't bother or care to check that everything was in the box. I would be willing to bet that the items I have recently returned due to missing parts, have since been re-shelved. To add insult to injury, they force store credit on you. Since I bought the third item with store credit from a previously messed up purchase, they refused to give me a cash refund, so I could buy this item elsewhere. So now my money is held hostage by Menards. They have me stuck rolling the dice on another purchase. One has to wonder,how many times the items I purchased had already been returned; the customers then being stuck with store credit. All I want is my money back so I don't have to set a foot back in this store. Do yourself a favor, Home Depot is two minutes down the road. read more

WORST of the Menards, they are utterly clueless. Needed a trim piece to match our granite counter we ordered from Long Grove, IL Menards. It's a standard item. The people in plumbing have no idea, they asked for my receipt. Clearly didn't understand. Tan Brown granite in the Tuscany brand (which I thnk is a house brand) is hugely popular, I know as when we ordered our counter it was on back order with many others wanting same and it's one of their stocked colors. Yet at this Menards they had no idea what I was talking about. I said " just show me your sample board and I'll show you the color I need to order". They said no sample board. Reason: the store is too small. TOO SMALL FOR A 2"x6"x24" sample board? Mentioned my problem to manager, he just said I should go back to Long Grove since it's a bigger store. He failed to grasp the basic concept: they all have access to the same stock. Never seen anyone send business away but they are more than willing to do just that. 2 stars, and 1 is for convenience of location. The other for the occasional useful, considerate employee. And for the low prices. And for the relatively friendly return policy, which you will need if you shop Menards enough. Not sure about all of them, but this one puts returns back on the shelf. You wind up with defectives, altered and missing items, etc. so be careful. The customer service at this store is by far the worst of all Menards, and I have been to probably a dozen of them in northern IL and south central WI. The people up front are nice, but the people in the depts are unenthusiastic and uninformed at best, curt, obtuse and rude at worst. I've run up against abrasive employees a few times there, this last one is the last straw. I live 2 miles from this one, but I am driving to Long Grove every time I need Menards as that store is 10X better. They actually care, have a clue, have things in stock. Couple the lax, aloof attitude and inconsiderate treatment with the fact that they seem to ALWAYS, ALWAYS be out of stock of things we need, and there's very little call to return to this Menards. My dad and I had a return. One lady was helping another customer with a return and the other worker there Clara was talking to an employee until the lady helping the other customer asked if she could help in sales because she will be awhile. Clara looks at her doesn't say anything and walks away to put a cart back. But does come back. She was very rude I asked her a question and she just ignored me and gave me a dirty look. If Menards is ever wondering why Home Depot and Lowe's are doing better, they're welcome to ask me. My friend and I were renovating her apartment, essentially gutting it. She bought $2000 worth of materials at Menards in Palatine, but they didn't have a door we wanted in stock, nor did they have a cabinet in stock that we already purchased (more on that later). So, we were told to go to the Mount Prospect store to pick these items up. En route, my friend called the store, noting our severe lack of time and asking that they have our items ready at the front desk so that we could grab, pay, and go. Mind you, she made this phone call when we were halfway there. We were informed that the cabinet we purchased the day before, the one we waited for for over an hour in a cold warehouse, the one that, after that looong wait, was still mysteriously MIA, was at this location (the good!) but was broken and unusable (the very, very bad). Umm, when were you planning on telling us? We were halfway there, and had stayed an extra day in the area just to pick up this godforsaken cabinet. So, we asked to speak to the store manager; his name was Sean. We explained our whole situation, and our very reasonable frustration. He could barely utter an apology, let alone solve the problem. We suggested that they deliver the items for free. He said he'd have to charge us. Are you kidding me??? He was useless and seriously, needs to be replaced. Eventually, getting nowhere, we hung up, more irritated and frustrated then ever. We called back the Palatine store, where we spoke to the Assistant Store Manager, David, who solved everything in less then a minute. Easy. Thus the reason this horrible review is being written for this particular location. Customer service 101: How you handle a customer's problem, not the fact that the customer had a problem in the first place, determines if you'll keep that customer. I pre-ordered building material (90 pieces, 4 different items) by phoning it in. It took over an hour to find the material scattered throughout the lumberyard. 2 1/2 hours later I'm leaving the store. Ridiculous. None of the material could be forklift easily. Total waste of time. Their management excels at inefficiency and poor designing. Go to lowes on willow. I was in and out in 9 minutes. read more

we went to buy a tree, and we couldn't even purchase it by the tree section. we had to walk through the whole store to buy it. then we asked if someone couldn't help put it on the car. which they said they wouldn't tie it, but they'd put it up on car. no one ended up coming to help. the lady at the return counter was also the rudest person i've ever met read more

I was at the store about a month ago and my Menards rebate accidentally dropped through the cart. I looked for it and never found it. About a week later, it comes to me in the mail - the staff had found it and mailed it to me! It's nice to see a store like Menards that actually cares about the customers. The store has a nice choice of merchandise. Employees are mostly very helpful. The only problem I had was with a return. I had more items and manager refused to take it back. So I will not be buying too much of building materials in the future but rather wait for them to run or choose a different place for purchase with better return policy. read more

I placed an order on menards.com for pickup at this Mount Prospect store. I had a problem with the order right away and called the store to get it corrected. They said that they don't have the ability to change .com orders. I went online to find a menards.com customer service number, but there is none! Only communication was by email. Email took three days to respond. In those three days, my order was shipped to the store. When I went to the store to adjust my order they charged me a $100 (25%) restocking fee. Cost me $100 because the menards.com website doesn't have a human to talk to for order support, and this M.P. store was also no help. I had it with Menards!!! They've also made multiple errors with my rebates (no customer service number there either).... Grocery, Automotive, Household paper goods, Electronics, Toys, Clothing, ect.... all departments you will not find in Home Depot. What you will find in Home Depot is much higher quality products, and a philosopy that great customer service is the way to get repeat business. They beat Menards sale prices by 10% too. Why did I ever shop at Menards. The Randhust Home Depot is worth the 5 min extra drive for me!!!!! read more

The phone customer service is awful. I called for cabinets option "19" to ask if cabinets are available in store or have to order it and they never picked up phone. So had to dial "0" to talk with operator and her behavior was awful. There was lot of background noise in her side and I was calling from office, so couldn't talk in very loud voice. She hung up at the first time because she couldn't hear me apparently. Then I tried again and same thing happened, nobody picked up call in cabinets section and had to again got to operator and her attitude was horrible. read more

I had a very bad experience at this store with their loss prevention. Today I was looking at a phone case, and while browsing set it down and decided not to buy it. I was approached by loss prevention on my way out and told me to show him where the case was. I did but he was very rude about it and when I asked him for his name he refused. I spoke with the manager and said he was a private contractor, regardless people should be responsible enough for their behavior to give out their first name. I wrote a letter to the store manager and corporate office but all I really want is an apology from the "officer". Regardless I wont be shopping there again. read more

I have shoped at this store over 100 times with good luck 90 times.the problemcame when I bought a QCA spa hot tub for over $4,000. thes spas are cheaply made and low quality after 5months a had to replace the pump and motor,the shipped it UPS but I had to do the work myself. then after afew more months one of the jets started leaking,it turns out the pvc hose was not fully glued into the back of the jet.,and I fixed it myself. one year later another leaking jet, Now its five years old and in sacramento Ca. and I'm still reglueing pvc hose and pipe. read more

They would not take it back, the gave me a place of an authorzied service center called Ben's Rental and Sales to take my equipment to. I was alittle mad but he assured me that these people are friendly and will be more the happy to assist me and have gotten gotten very good comments about this place.
