I recently purchased a few Atlas garden tools including a lawn trimmer. Spent close to $700.00 for the tools batteries and charger. After the second use, the lawn trimmer motor housing completely broke away from the handle rendering the tool useless. I called the store manager John at Harbor Freight Tools, Arlington Heights, IL and he would not stand behind this product and totally didn't care! My review is for many reasons. The basis is because I bought a product with a coupon and they would not honor the 25% off which after I found many other stores honored this and bought for $100 less. I showed copies of receipts for this. So I contacted corporate and.... One Star- For corporate because they allowed it to take over 2 weeks to have the district manager call me and then the district manager would not call me and had the store manager do her dirty work. The store manager had to check back with her for everything I questioned. Zero stars for district manager because corporate told her to contact me but had her store manager do it instead. After all done she left a message (probably because I complained to corporate) and her message said I calling to make sure you got my final decision on your issue. 5 stars for store manager who should get promoted to district manager because he had to do their dirty work. Why do many others get the discount I asked for and I was not allowed. Telling me they were not suppose to get it does not justify not giving me the same discount. I provided 3 other copies of receipts to show this and all they say is they shouldn't have gotten that. Bad business and this was my first and last time shopping there because of it. My boyfriend bought me a leaf blower from Harbor Freight for Christmas which I just unpacked and tried to use. When I opened the box I could clearly see that this blower had been used before as there were scrape marks on the different pieces. So, I plugged it in and it does not work. We tried to return this item, with the receipt and they would not take it back because it was over the 90 day limit and the extended warranty was not purchased. The item had cost $65 and the extended warranty was $25 so he did not get the extended warranty. They would not even offer a credit. This does not seem like good business. At least a credit should have been offered. What a horrible experience. We will NEVER shop at any of their stores EVER again. Please check the item that you are buying at the store first because they do not stand behind their products. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.... read more

Apparently this Harbor Freight Tools location is subject to shop lifting. The manager clearly chases customers around the store offering assistance. Said another way it's an anti-shoplifting technique.... In short I picked up the item I came into the store to purchase, but I was totally offended by the manager's behavior. read more

bought a universal car crossbar set here. asked if it really fit every car and she wasn't sure. got home and it didn't fit. tried to return and my husband had already thrown away the receipt. they wouldn't refund based on the credit card we used to purchase. we offered to show the charge in our bank account and they said no. wouldn't even give us store credit so now we're stuck with crossbars that don't fit our vehicle. it's 2022 how can you not look up a previous purchase? read more

Okay. Five stars. For this place. Why? Price. That's really it. I can get the tools to get just about whatever I need done here. Will they last forever? Probably not. But they'll last as long as I need them to. When was the last time you bought a corded tool and it came with extra motor brushes in the box? This anticipates a need, folks... so, caveat emptor. And buy the extended warranty. So far, so good -- and I always get great service from the guys here. I need an anvil dug out from the back? No problem. Might be a little wait while they locate the one they have in stock... but they seem to be cheery about it. And this place does attract a curmudgeony crowd on a Saturday morning -- but they always seem nice to me. The place is wall-to-wall "Made in China." Some of it is sheer junk, some of it can be nursed along, and some of it will defy all expectations and outlast stuff that cost twice as much. You never can be sure. But the place offers cheap extended warranties and guarantees -- just to make sure that if you bought a 'lemon,' you can come back to the tree. I've bought a cordless tool set, belt sander, welder, an anvil, silver & deming drill bits, an angle grinder and countless other little things here. All of which are humming along beautifully -- for a fraction of the price of other places. Sure, I have to set a six-hour timer to get my cordless batteries off the charger, but its a trifling thing. The tool store everybody loves to hate. Quite honestly, I love quality tools. 99% of my collection is from quality suppliers, but there is always that need for some beater tools and that's where Harbor Freight comes in. Prices are excellent. Quality is all over the board. I have found some items to be of excellent quality and other items last for a couple uses and then break. If you are careful and look each item over before you buy, you shouldn't have any problems. Some of the better items I have found include screwdriver sets, nut drivers, boxes of rubber gloves, razor blades, engine hoists, parts washers, bench grinders, etc. When I'm looking for some beater tools for nasty jobs, Harbor Freight will have it. read more

I love Harbor Freight -and this is a pretty good example of one of their stores. The store is clean and the people there are always nice (especially Hilde -who is a cutie). My only regret is they don't have any stores in the city. It's a real trek out to Bufu Arlington Heights. I'd go to HF every day if they had one in my neighborhood. read more

This Harbor Freight Tools is located in a shopping center on Dundee Road--east of Kennicott Avenue and west of Ridge Avenue. There's plenty of parking although I had to park about a block away to find an open space. I received several Harbor Freight catalogs in the mail and have seen their ads in magazines. A few years ago I purchased something from their on-line store and was satisfied. I was in need of some screwdrivers and didn't want to spend a lot of money, because they always seem to disappear from my toolbox. I happened to be in the area, so I stopped in and found a 32-piece screwdriver set in a nice plastic case for $6.99 and a set of six small screwdrivers for $4.99. If I had gone to Snap On, I probably would have spent more than the price of these two sets for one driver. Apples and oranges, but close enough for me. I purchased a lighted magnifier hood for $4.99 that was slightly damaged in its unopened box, but I probably won't drive out there to exchange it. I purchased a few more items--all at incredibly low prices. It looks like the quality is ideal for a DIY. It disturbs me to buy Chinese made products, but in this case it made sense. The store is fairly large, I'd guess about 3,500 SF and chock full of all kinds of hand and power tools, tool chests and more. On my visit there were only two employees visible and my contact with the cashier was pleasant. read more

Thank you for NOT giving customers the run around! It seems that most stores love to screw the customer over by really restricting how coupons are used. I love using the 20% off coupon on a regular item and then getting the free item with a coupon. Never had any problems using both coupons at once. Keep it that way Harbor Freight!! One of my favorite low cost tool stores. If I needed & used a specific tool every day, I'd buy a higher quality name brand, however the few power tools that I've purchased here (angle grinder, pad sander, rock tumbler, detail sander) all for under $20.00 have not given me any problems. They are only subject to occasional use, but have been able to do anything I've asked them to. 36 disposable 1" paint brushes for $6.00. Blades, storage containers, chisels, wrenches, & lots of other stuff for Much Much less than you'd pay @ Home Depot. I haven't spend more than $25 on any one item, & would check it out thoroughly if I were going to. read more

This place doesn't exactly have high ends tools but you get what you pay for. The stuff tends to be cheap and it feels like it. If you want something you might only have to use once and you don't want to spend a lot of money then this place has the tools for you. The staff are helpful but some can be a bit cranky. All in all its clean for the most part and I can find what I need. read more

I have always loved this store. The prices and selection truly can't be beat, and I will probably shop again. As a retiree, I have even considered applying for a job at the Dundee Road store. But my experience there today was so terrible that I felt it necessary to comment, and made me realize I would NEVER want to work there. The woman who rang up my order-who I assume was a manager-was speaking ANGRILY with a checker at the next register about another female employee's transgression and how she (the manager) was going to 'WRITE HER UP'. Her OVER THE TOP behavior kept me waiting longer than I really deserved to as a loyal customer. This particular incident happened on 11/11/15 at 2:30 in the afternoon, so I hope you can figure out who this person is and tell her to 'tow the line' in front of customers when discussing employee matters which should ALWAYS be kept private.
