Their prehung interior doors are terribly made! The jams are particle board that's wrapped with a wallpaper type material. Jams are very flimsy and hard to keep plumb. I wouldn't recommend any of their interior doors to anyone! read more

It was 5:39 pm and the garden center was busy. I ran in real quick to get 5 plastic flower pots . I go to the registers in gardening and the person at the register said they are closed... it's 5:39 pm. She points at the sign on the counter, it doesn't say closed. Come on do better. Nice big store. Lost stars at the check out though. When I go to a store that has me bag my own merchandise, it is normally because they have lower prices. But no matter where I go to Menards their prices are always the same. So why am I bagging my own merchandise here? Prices aren't cheaper. On top of it when we paid, we rang ourselves up as we put in our debit card & took our own receipt. The cashier even rudely insisted we get it ourselves. Since we unloaded our merchandise onto the conveyor belt, I'm not really sure what the cashier did. Push a couple buttons. Might as well have been self-checkout. Not impressed with this store. Check-outs there represent poor customer service. read more

Though the products have a decent selection for almost everything. Service isn't great. I am a former employee. But every time I come in to ask something that I am or am not familiar with they never have the answers or experience. They sell products they don't know much about especially when it comes to application or dos and donts when using two different products together. A lot of the advice they give can result in a bad result and/or it wearing and having to spend more than you would like. Overall, it's not a terrible place to go for your shopping needs. But, I would recommend asking a professional when it comes to problem with certain projects or mixing products. The employees need to take their training more seriously because it results in ruining or making projects harder for the guests. read more

I just received a vanity and sink via home delivery. What I thought was rattling building parts inside the box at the time of delivery turned out instead to be the sink. It is in multiple pieces. I called Portage store (where I thought these items were being shipped from) and spoke with shipping manager. I gave her all the information I had, i.e. my online order confirmation number, the packing slip order number, the tracking number from the packing slip. She was completely unable to locate this order on line. WHAT???? She could find no reference of this sale. She directed me to call the Michigan City store because she thought that the order number indicated that it came from there. I did. It didn't. In my understanding of customer service, especially with a customer who was as clearly frustrated as I, it is the duty of the customer service individual to find a way to help the customer understand what has transpired. This person didn't even make an attempt. Rather, she simply shifted blame to other stores or the online store. It doesn't help that I really HATE big box stores. But now, I really HATE them. Sadly, we the consumers have few options but to buy from these behemoths who don't give 2 beans about us. At this point, I am now going toe to toe with the online presence...this will be a major uphill battle, I am predicting. YUCK. read more

I have been a customer of Menards since the stores opened the one here in portage and the Merrillville store. My Husband used to work at Lowes but we shopped at Menards so for those complaining about prices then go to Lowes you will pay a whole lot more. I have never had a problem returning merchandise. and as far as rebates I send every rebate i get in. for those that dont realize how rebates work. You fill out the form and send it in to the address on the back. Its not a instant rebate. the only think I wish with the rebates is that they would also refund the price for postage. I am learning really quick not to do on line ordering. I have not done so with menards but I have with a couple other items from other places to have a real nite mare. Anyway I can truly say I love Menards. Note to Store: You definitely need a lot more handicap scooters. read more

I was able to go through the whole store and get everything I needed... But they refused to check me out at the register because I didn't wear a mask... In a state that doesn't require a mask, I won't be back to any Menards ever... They have went downhill for years, this is definitely the nail in the coffin... I assure you I am a real person with real feelings to the other person who wrote on this review. I am not an employee and I've been coming to this store for over 5 years now. Today has been a great day. I've been in here since 6pm and it is now almost 9pm. We went from building materials with a young man who was awesome and a few more smiles and a really wonderful guy (Mr. Shawn)who has helped me find the perfect front storm/ screen/glass door!!! Mr Steve the manager has continued to keep me a faithful Menards customer! I appreciate all the people who work here with a smile. Not only do they do a great job, but they make my life less stressful by making it easy to remodel my house with the help of professional people. Can't wait to finish this project!!! read more

I generally do all my project shopping at Menards in Valpo, but with the round-about construction going on for the next who knows how long, I started going to Menards Portage. While the store layout is different, it's not that bad. The almost self-checkout kinda sucks, and customer service is not what it should be. With all that said, and the 11% rebate deal, I think I'd rather go to Home Depot, where they give 10% at the register to Veterans, rather than the mail in deal. Plus, HD is MUCH less crowded than Menards. But, alas, HD Valpo is hung up in the round-about construction as well. So, maybe go to Michigan City? Lol. read more

Horrible customer service from this entire establishment, including the manager BRANDY and general manager BILL. I am sure nobody from the Menards corporate office or company even monitors these or checks but at least I can warn future customers of the poor customer service and ability to help quality and loyal customers. read more

We placed an order for a $1200 gazebo through the official Menards website on May 1, 2020. We went today for the pick up to be told our order has already been picked up. This Portage, Indiana location has totally screwed up! Who the hell picked it up? Why the hell didn't someone check the person's I.D.? This is fraud! We will go back until we are given our order! Again, I shop in Indiana because I am there for work and the frickin taxes are cheaper. This is a fairly new store and it is huge. Which makes it easy to navigate when it gets busy. The guys in the paint department are great. They are on the ball and very helpful. The prices are a lot cheaper than HD and you can win a car. Woo Hoo! read more

Yet another wonderful moment at this Menard's location. I stopped in to purchase some gutter guards for the cat shelter I volunteer at (some are warped, some are missing) and they were advertised for $1.49 with a mail in rebate for $1.49. At checkout I noticed they were not ringing up with the rebate. I stopped at the service counter on my way out. They were brown and in the box with the white ones, so they themselves were not on sale. They counter girl and the staff gave me the discount anyway and gave me immediate store credit due to the mistake. Thanks Menard's! Our shelter appreciates it! read more

When there today. Bought $117.00 dollars worth of stuff. All I have to stay is costumers service sucks at this store. Every employee walks right past you. Even thou you are looking around lost trying to find you products you are looking for. I bought two 25 lbs bags of Fertilizer, and some other things. One bag broke open when the cashier moved it, small whole. Product was falling out fast. I had to ask for some tape. The cashier said she did not have any, but I can look for some tape at the other cashier lanes. Now I was pissed. I said to her the was above her pay grade to help someone. I got some from the costumer service desk to tape up the whole. I paid for my stuff. I did not get a thank you, have a nice day, nothing. read more
