This place is so close I could walk from my home. I last visited over 3 years ago, and I sure found out what I have been missing! Rick and Mena are great hosts, the tasting room is lovely, but you come for the wine. And you come back for the wine! This area has new vineyards and wineries popping up every month, but the Spanish and Portuguese wines MenaRick produces are special. I had never tried an Albariño before, and that's the bottle I bought. Their red table wine (blend) was one of the most delicious wines I've ever tasted, and since it will be totally different next year, I'm going back for a couple bottle of that. Save room for the blackberry wine though, even if you "hate sweet wines". If you are from out of town, don't let the drive in worry you, you will eventually arrive somewhere wonderful. read more

This is a smaller, boutique-type, winery that specialises in wines in the Spanish and Portuguese style. The wines, especially the reds, are excellent and a real standout from the wines of the region. The owner is very knowledgeable and friendly and can talk at length about his wines. The view from the outside patio is really beautiful and the winery is also very dog friendly despite having several (very friendly) cats inside and out. They encourage you to bring a picnic to enjoy with their wines. read more

Wine Tour Stop #1: MenaRick Vineyard & Winery A vineyard specializing in Spanish and Portuguese wines, the tasting room definitely reflects this. We were able to sample 11 wines for $10 which included the glass. My personal favorites were the Touriga Nacional, Rosalina (a blend) and the Peach. My group ended up grabbing a glass of wine after the tasting for $8 and sat outside to enjoy the beautiful views. Rick was awesome during our tasting, super friendly and knowledgable. Not a fan of Mena, she was a bit rude. While checking out the machine messed up and she was not pleasant to deal with. This is in response to Crystal S. from a regular patron to Menarick Vineyard. You are not by any means a wine connoisseur. I was sitting there when you came in and when you left. You stated to the owner that you were a connoisseur of wines. Yet you did a tasting out of a plastic cup, which was barely touched. A true connoisseur would have asked for a glass or brought your own. How could you get the true fragrance out of a tiny plastic cup? I think you just came in to try and give the winery a bad review. Maybe on the behalf of some other winery. Rick and Mena are truly wonderful people and we enjoy the experience they have shared with us, in the style of wine from another country. Ok, bear with me as I'm playing catch up on a few reviews! :) I visited MenaRick with a girlfriend on November 17th. We were popping into a few places to try wines and enjoy views. I love that MenaRick's style of winemaking sticks pretty strictly to the Spanish style. Their wines were very tasty, and we really enjoyed our time there. Rick started our tasting as we were there before a few parties came around. They had a lovely cat who had a cozy seat by the fireplace. All around, this place is rustic, homey, with a very pretty view, and a good example of what NC wines can be! We really enjoyed ourselves! read more

When you pull into this place, it's not really what you might expect from a winery and vineyard. It appears to be a little sketchy until you turn the corner and see the owner sweeping the porch and welcoming you into the warm and inviting tasting room. There is an expansive porch and sitting area that you can take advantage of or throw a little party, as one group did while we were there. The owner was very personable and answered all our questions about their wine. I really enjoyed the variety of the Spanish wines. I will be back! read more

Popped into MenaRick this past weekend for the first time. It is not hard to find at all - located right near Elkin. There are beautiful vineyards all around you on the hillsides, a pond, barn and cozy tasting room with lots of windows looking out on the beautiful view. There are tables inside and out to linger and have a bottle of wine. The neighbor pups came running up at some point and delighted us with their antics. Such a fun time! We went for a Low Country Boil and had a tasting as well. Everything was made on site and was so fresh and delicious! There is a wide variety of wine - my favs were the peach and blackberry. Can't wait for summer to enjoy these more. There is a case discount and a half case discount. The tasting is $7 bucks a piece (which i think they forgot to wave since we bought wine?!?!) Definitely head up - rain or shine and you won't regret it! Hope to be back soon! :-D read more

A charming vineyard owned by really special people,Rick & his wife Mena. They offered us some truly special wines there was a red that we all said we had never tasted anything like that before I believe it was the Touriga. Outstanding. I dont want to spoil the surprise but Rick does something amazing with lemon peel!!! I was afraid I wasnt going to like the fruit wines that they would be too sweet, but like he says "you can taste the fuzz on the peach" they were all so fresh tasting not at all sweet or cloying. This is got to be hands down my favorite winery in all of North Carolina. I have finally found a winemaker who's red's do not have that "North Carolina taste". I'm not sure if you guys understand what I'm talking about, but every North Carolina red I have tried up to this point has had a specific taste no matter the varietal. As most of the other yelpers have previously pointed out, the Vineyard specializes in Spanish and Portuguese varieties. This day we sampled two white wines, an Albariño $24 and a Vinho Branco $21 (a white Portuguese table blend). Of the two I prefer the Albariño. It has that nice acidity and keeps the white and stone fruit aromas. There were six red's that we sampled. Grenache, Merlot, Tempranillo, Rosalina (a red blend), Syrah, and Touriga Nacional (which is another Portuguese varietal). These were really nice! The only NC reds to this point that DO NOT have that same taste. I really enjoyed them as did my lady. She normally does not like Syrah at all, but she even ordered a glass of it after the tasting. I had a glass of the Grenache and Rick shared a glass with us. You guys have to get there to see what I'm talking about, This will be a great visit and a pretty drive there too. read more

A quaint little vineyard tucked away. In all that is the beauty of the place. I had the oppurtunity to visit during a special night where they were doing live music and a low country boil. Although it was a bit chilly outside, the wine tasting room provided for a cozy and warm spot. I particularly liked the oversized chairs in front of the fireplace. You can rest assured two things at this winery. First, you will always get personal service. The owners are always on site and eager to explain the wines and give you all the background for the different wines. Secondly, the wine. While I'm not a huge NC wine fan because the majority are sweet, they do it right here. I really liked the peach and the blackberry wines but my favorite was the Syrah because I prefer a bold and spicy red. Being a short drive from Charlotte, this winery should be on your list to visit when headed north. There are several other places around to help fill the day up. read more

Great little mom and pop vineyard! Some friends and I went crawling around the vineyards over the weekend and this place was our first stop. I'm going to go ahead and preface this by saying that I am not anywhere near being a wine geek so when it comes to wines I'm fairly clueless. That being said though, Filamena and Rick (the owners) or this vineyard were extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating when it came to explaining the different types of wines they have and their particular process in making them. Right now, they have a selection of 5 different types of wine however they told me that in the next year or two they will be adding a couple Portuguese wines to their selection and if I'm not mistaken (which I may be completely wrong here) that would make them one of the few, if not only place in North Carolina that bottles those types of wine. read more

Best wine in the Yadkin Valley with the two best owners in the Yadkin Valley. Seriously. When you are in the area, don't miss this one. They have a fantastic staff who refer to themselves as "wino children" of the owners. We brought a picnic and had a nap under some trees near the vineyard. read more

5 stars for service and view but we tasted 5 different reds and all were undrinkable. Cloudy and tasted over aged. We have had wine from all over, including other NC vineyards (which we love). Based on other reviews we were very excited to visit this winery on the way to pick up our other club bottles nearby. Rick was great at describing all the options and nice. I was sad to leave without even liking one we tried. I asked him if maybe the bottles had been open a while and he said no, and was disappointed to hear it from me being that he was the winemaker. don't go for the wine. read more

On our recent getaway to Elkin I noticed a winery on the map we hadn't been to the last time we were up this way which was surprisingly near some of the other places we had gone for tastings. We decided to venture out and try MenaRick. We arrived to the owner Rick taking down the Christmas tree. He was super nice and very chatty. The wines were very good. They offer wines made with Spanish and Portugese varietals so it was nice getting to try some that were not the usual cabernet, muscadine, etc. We had some lunch with us and had it not been super cold out would have loved to have eaten outside and enjoyed the view a bit better. Rick even went to the house nearby and brought us back some homemade bread samples which were excellent. He mentioned some events they have coming up this year which sounded fun so hopefully we can make it back up there for one of those. read more

If you are looking for a great family-owned winery with a smaller feel to it, MenaRick is the place to go! My husband and I received a great tasting of their ten wines from Mena, who owns the winery with her husband, Rick (hence the name). They make a great Portuguese style wine, Tempranillo, as they have Portuguese roots. Not only was the wine great, so was the conversation! It has a smaller feel to it than Raffaldini but it was great to see how they can still hold their own. read more

We arrived with a large group (1st tasting of a Sunday morning) and everyone got one-on-one attention and pleasant chats after the tasting. Rick is a knowledgeable winemaker with an easy manner in sharing his love of wines. There was an interesting range of wines to find what you liked. The ties to Spanish and Portuguese grapes worked for me and I came home with a collection of bottles. Our favorites were the Albarino, Syrah, and the Blackberry but we honestly enjoyed them all. Let me start by saying that I spent a few weeks in Italy in July, and this vineyard blew some of those out of the water. The wines were delicious (in fact I couldn't even decide on one, so we left with 4!) and the staff was very warm, welcoming & knowledgeable. We stayed long after the tasting was over just chit chatting. You also cannot beat the price. We did a tasting which included a sample of every wine on the menu and a cute MenaRick wine glass for only $10. With so many vineyards around, make sure you stop by this one for a visit! We visited MenaRick Winery recently and loved it. Actually, we loved the entire experience from the wine tasting, winery tour, to the customer service and elegant decor'. First thing I noticed when entering the tasting room was elegance and attention to detail. Standing at the front door looking toward the back is a welcoming tasting bar and friendly faces. There's seating inside and outside. The sitting area outside treated us to a view of the vines and pond. Robin, my wife, and I chose the semi-sweet tasting experience. Peach and blackberry were the sweetest of all. The BlackBerry combination was very good especially when paired with the specialty a hint of lemon. If you are looking for great wine, an exceptional experience, and elegance MenaRick Winery is for you. I give them five stars because I enjoyed it. read more

This is one of my favorite wineries in Yadkin Valley. After going to 3 wineries in the area, we definitely saved the best for last. The winery and tasting room was beautiful and I loved walking around exploring. Very relaxing. Also there's a small pond filled with koi fish which was cool to check out. My tasting experience was awesome. Rick was very friendly and accommodating and explained the wine we were tasting very well. What makes MenaRick different from other wineries they served Spanish and Portuguese wines. My favorite being the Tempranillo. Definitely coming back here again! read more

This may be one of the most biased reviews I have ever done with my history and ties to the vineyard but I will try and be straightforward. Although it is one of the newest vineyards, I honestly believe Menarick has some of the tastiest wines and most inviting owners. So far they have an Alberino, two chardonnay's, merlot, and syrah. Granacha and tampranillo are on the way for next year. The tasting room and winery is a very quaint and extremely welcoming. The lumber was claimed from the land and has a very rustic feel. We were on a wine tour with a group of friends. Menarick was our second stop. We were struck by the beautiful view from their outdoor area. It happened to be their third year anniversary, so they had complimentary food from their smoker. Our group, however, brought a potluck picnic lunch. Mena conducted our wine tasting. There were a number of wines presented with the price of only $8.00, and, we each received a beautiful stemless wine glass. There was not a bad wine in the bunch, although my favorites were the albarino, Syrah and tempernillo. They also offered some fruity dessert wines which were suitable for those with a sweet tooth. Menarick featured live entertainment. We sat by the fire and listened to a talented trio that was headed by a singer/guitarist named Luke. They played a lot of older blues based music, including my favorite, Led Zeppelin. We had a great time and anticipate a return to this cozy mountain winery. read more

The wines were delightful and fit right in with the beautiful and friendly atmospheric.
