This is a great little pharmacy that does compounding for pets as well as people. When we sudden,y had problems getting our cat to take the meds she had previously taken without problem, I called and talked to the tech for recommendations, she suggested we try a different flavor in the suspension. They made the script quickly and I picked up. Unfortunately, our cat was pretty inconsistent sister about taking the med and we were headed on vacation. I called and asked about transdermal application of the med. this was available so I contacted our vet to get the script called in and the was able to pick up later that afternoon. This will make it so much easier for our kitty sitter to administer while we are gone. Appreciate the cleanliness of the place, the kindness of staff and the ability to get compounded pet meds in town. They also offer free shipping. Great local resource. read more

Small, yet full of some of the important, obscure items you may need, which you can't find at any other pharmacy in the area. Seriously. I've tried to find a place closer to my home, and can't find any other pharmacy which has what Menaul Pharmacy has. On their website it says they have free city-wide delivery service to most areas, which is a bit of an odd statement. Several times I've called them to find out if one of their hard-to-find items is in, and I mention that I live on the other side of town, but have never been offered free delivery. And normally when I purchase stuff from them, I buy in quantity so I don't have to go back there for many months. Being a compounding pharmacy, they can, I believe usually with a prescription, make their own concoctions, which can be customized to the individual based on what that individual's physician observes is needed. This is the worst pharmacy experience I've ever had. They gave me the wrong prescription & I was in Chicago for a medical procedure, so instead of crediting me the $95, they had me mail the prescription back, then said once it leaves the store, they can't take it back! No one is in charge there, no manager, no owner ... My advice is to use any other compounding pharmacy. read more

Called and asked if they could fill compound med for our dog, and read prescription over phone. Hearing affirmatively, I arrived 40 mins later to, "We dont have that in stock right now, you'll have to come back". How much will it cost? "$30-$40". Called 3 days later, asked if it was ready. "Yes". Arrive 40 mins later, it is not ready. Furthermore, it is $70. No pharmacy in the U.S. operates like this. Furthermore, I think the NM state board that regulates pharmacies would frown on giving customers incorrect prices on meds. Other reviews seem to suggest similar experiences. read more

This is my first Yelp review as I don't relish spending my time reviewing businesses. But I feel a responsibility to warn others away from this pharmacy. I was sent here by my doctor for a sterile compound a couple of years ago, and believing this was my only option, I tolerated the poor customer service that others have reported. Originally I was told that my compound is volatile and only good for exactly 21 days, after which I'd have to throw it away. Every time I called in a script, they said they'd make it up that day or next, then ship out the same day it was prepared. However, when I recently had to request shipment for a specific day, I discovered that they had been misleading me. I learned that for some time, they have only been making sterile compounds 1 day a week. The phone person explained to me that it got too expensive to do multiple times a week, so this change was purely motivated by money. If that's all they can afford, then too bad for them, but they never bothered to inform me. Instead, they continued to let me believe they were making up each order the day it was shipped. So this very volatile script with a strict 21 day expiration date could have been sitting in their refrigerator for over a week before it shipped out, leaving me with only 12-14 days of viable compound to use. Either that or they lied about the strict 21 day expiration period. I had to talk to the pharmacist to clear this up, something I dreaded because I know him to be an unreasonable hot head. The one time I was in their store, I saw him in the back, raging at an employee like a crazed chef in a kitchen about to throw pots and pans. The one time I spoke to him on the phone, he was condescending, interruptive and disrespectful, calling me some insulting pet name the minute he identified me as female. But as I had to clear this up if I was to continue doing business with them, I tried asking him how it's feasible to keep my compound in the fridge for up to a week and still deliver a viable 21-day prescription to me? He ignored the question and instead started aggressively demanding my name, address, the day I wanted to pick up the compound -- all information I'd already given the phone person. I tried to stop him and restate my question, but he is incapable of listening. When he finally demanded I tell him when I'd be coming for the prescription (???), I said never. You haven't answered my question. After a hostile silence, I said I only have one question: is it okay to leave this in the refrigerator for 5+ days before using it? He just yelled "NO" as rudely as he could. Realizing his dishonesty was exposed, he spiraled into a literal hissy fit, saying he REFUSED to to fill the prescription because he didn't like the tone of my voice. HA! Never mind that he'd been barking at me rudely from the beginning, the "tone" he didn't like was the sound of a woman who didn't buy his bulls#it. He'd been selling me a 21 day script with 12-14 days left on it. So be warned -- as others have noted, this pharmacy is purely money motivated and greedy at that. They do not adhere to honest business practices, they do not communicate critical information to customers, and when exposed, this absurd barking pharmacist tries to cover it all up with nonsense and bluster. Trying to preemptively refuse to fulfill my script when I was in the process of questioning his business practices is a perfect example of the defensive and dishonest way this pharmacy operates. No need to fire me! I wouldn't buy gum from them knowing what I know now. Thankfully I found another sterile compounding pharmacy that makes my prescription for half the money! Very polite, very knowledgeable, willing to take time to answer all my questions, and honest about their sterile compounding schedule (3x a week). There is also another pharmacy in Albuquerque that is building a huge new facility that will include a sterile room by the end of this year, so Menaul is about to have their lunch fed to them. So much for the monopoly mind-set they have adopted. Though I wish I'd discovered Menaul's shady business practices earlier, I still give many thanks to the ragaholic pharmacist who made it crystal clear that I can do so much better, because now I have. I was so excited to give a local independent chain a chance. They filled a script for my mother when she was visiting from out of town. Her independent pharmacist was able to work with this pharmacy to get it done. A big factor in that was that her script was not a c2. I went in on 3/1/19 to fill my script and the technician announced to me that they would be phasing out normal pharmacy operations and only dealing in scripts that are compounded. I'm not going to start a customer relationship with a pharmacy that has given into greed. They are sure happy to fill their lobby with over priced trinkets and home medical equipment for sale but choose to not help the general public. Why not close your doors to the public and just compound. read more

The pharmacists here seem to really know their business, hence the three stars. That said, I no longer frequent this pharmacy due to lacking customer service. That's a shame because I really wanted to support an independent pharmacy, but on more than one occasion, they really dropped the ball and didn't follow through with prescriptions. Really great pharmacy. Wife has been a patient for over a decade. I've been a hormone replacement patient at the VA for over a decade and for both hormones I was receiving and the numbers never came up even kept getting lower. My wife mentioned it to somebody named Mohamed He asked her a couple questions then recommended we check to see if I was taking active or inactive Thyroid & Testosterone. He explained the difference. We had to go to a non VA doctor to get the prescription For an active Thyroid and Testosterone. Did the 6 month testosterone implants. Then did the the thyroid compounded from the Menaul Compounding Pharmacy after a couple years of buying the active from virtually every branded pharmacy in Albuquerque assuming It would more expensive at a compounding pharmacy. Some months paying almost $100 for 1 month supply if lucky could find it 60 to 75 dollars for a month supply. I had it filled at Menaul Compounding Pharmacy it was $135.00 not bad in comparison. Plus my wife explained the meds she got from them really seemed to work well. When We picked them up it wasn't a one month supply it was a 3 months supply. The difference was night and day. Without active hormone I had been suicidal for over a decade. With active hormone Just a few dozen times a month. With active from Manual Compounding Pharmacy I eventually noticed I just didn't have that issue any longer. When I asked a competing pharmacy what the difference between active from them versus what I was getting at Menaul Compounding Pharmacy. He explained that the basic difference is they are both active hormone but MCP just uses very high quality raw material that are hard to get and more expensive to get and is actually closer to what people are calling BIO-exact hormones. He explained that they probably have a lot of years experience doing it and are very exacting on their standards for raw materials. He cautioned me that that could lead to times when those ingredient are in short supply or you just can't get them. I don't know about you but it is costing me less per month. I don't want to sound rude but I don't want to kill my self dozens of times a month. Call ne crazy but I'm going to Keep getting it from MCP. I made an appointment with the non-VA doctor to get a prescription for Testosterone pills. I just cant afford the implants and I'm hoping the quality of the testosterone is as superior quality. Kind of pissed I didn't go to them when I first was diagnosed with hormone deficiencies. Would of saved myself a lot of years thinking I was going crazy when it was just a hormone deficiency. Remember not all drug ingredients are created equally go with the guys that won't compromise on the ingredients. It really does make a difference. Not to mention I want the guy mixing my meds to care more about me getting the best health outcome. Not making an extra buck because technically it is still considered the same class of drug. read more

Staff is very rude. I was directed by my provider to call this pharmacy to ensure the script had been received and to give my mailing information. I called yesterday to ask if a script was called in, and it had not been. I called my provider who stated they would get it called in. Today I called to make sure they had the script and everything they needed to fill it and was met with "we are very busy and we will call you to get your information". I let them know I was a new customer and she probably didn't have my information, but she stated "yeah, we will call you". Not without a correct phone number right?I am a pharmacist who has had to communicate with the public as well as other health care providers for over 25 years. I know it is stressful, but I also know, if you don't like your job, find something else to do. I filled a script at Walgreens this morning and had a pleasant experience, even though I waited in line for 25 minutes, and they were very busy. I have had issues on and off with this pharmacy for years. As the only compounding pharmacy near me I haven't felt I had much choice. I ended up going out of state more than once just to avoid them. Choosing to give them a second shot with my cat's meds, they at first were great but this time didn't fill the prescriptions in a sensible manner. .2 refills, 1.5 refills. They claim that these meds don't last on the shelf for three months, and I just need to find a magical eighty dollars a month to give them., The problem with this is one of these medications has been given to my cat for multiple years. I have been using Roadrunner Pharmacy in Arizona. Those worked fine for three months in bulk, but they're just greedy and expect someone on a fixed income to magically have enough money for their meds, cat meds, and food. My cat had a stroke, I'm sick. There's enough stress without a rude pharmacy worker who hangs up on you before you can even say hello, lies, and the other crap. I DO NOT advise you shop here. If you do, shop around as there are other options. read more
