I finally made it to Menchie's a few weeks ago at Edmonton's location on 109 Street, just south of the High Level bridge. Menchie's is a frozen yogourt specialized store founded outside Los Angeles in 2007. Menchie's has many yogourt flavours as well as toppings, which includes chocolate, candy, fruits and syrups. The paying system is a little different from other places - you pick up a bowl at the entrance, take the yogourt and toppings and finally, you pay by weight. Edmonton's location was very bright (in the sense of bright and vibrant colours) and nicely decorated. I went with my wife and friends and it was a very enjoyable experience, while enjoying delicious frozen yogourt. It was my first time at Menchie's, and I really liked it, the flavours I chose, including dark chocolate and orange flavours, were really delicious and different from regular ice cream. read more

it was a horrible experience and horrible costumer service. the worker would tell us that we couldn't try any of the flavours and would talk to us like we were stupid. she was very rude and impatient to us. she also made disrespectful comments and faces towards me and my sisters. also half of the machines were broken and the yogurt was very watered down which was disappointing experience because me and my sisters were really looking forward to it for months. overall it was a frustrating and disappointing experience and would not recommend. read more

Menchie's is so so so good. Menchie's has perfected the custom frozen yogurt experience. As soon as you enter, you go into an open seating area with some merchandise, plenty of seating, and right in front of you, where the magic happens: the frozen yogurt selection. There are 14 different frozen yogurt flavours to choose from, include two dairy free sorbet options. I'm not sure how often they change the flavours, but there are always some that are consistent. If you haven't tried a flavour before, you can try any and all of the flavours for free! They have little sample cups near the tills, which are also conveniently located near the frozen yogurts. Once you have chosen your frozen yogurt flavour(s), you then go to the next counter which has every kind of topping you could possibly think of. Among the dry toppings, there are nuts of all kinds, chocolate bar bits, marshmallows, coconut, yogurt covered pretzels or yogurt chips, chocolate chips, sprinkles and the list goes on! There are syrups as well: chocolate, caramel, sugar free chocolate and peanut butter sauce. My favorite toppings sit right in between the syrups and the dry toppings, which are the perishables: chocolate chip cookie dough, cheesecake pieces and bobas (little jelly balls that burst in your mouth). In my opinion, you only really need these three in any frozen yogurt you get, but they also have fresh fruit, nanaimo bars, peanut crackle, etc. The last two menchies I had was cotton candy and cake batter frozen yogurt with the 3 toppings above for one, and the other was roasted pistachio and festive eggnog with the 3 toppings and yogurt chips. Each one had a large giant sour soother to top it off. Head to menchie's and make your own creation! It is so worth it! The creations are charged by weight, so keep that in mind when you are putting toppings in. Of course fresh fruit and bobas will weigh more than nuts and sprinkles, so if that is a factor, then plan your toppings accordingly. read more

What can I say, it's a decent Froyo stop and it's in a great location: near the University campus and also near places like the Metro Cinema which makes it a great place for a date night treat or something before or after exams or other campus events. In the summer it's a great place to stop before or after a walk in the river valley too! Lots of options for toppings and for frozen yogurt flavours as well. I liked the fact that there are games on the tables and lots of space to sit and relax. We had a good trip here on my most recent visit and I'm sure we'll visit again. read more

I love this place from the decor to the location to the oh so yummy Purely Tart frozen yogurt. I never bother with the toppings, as I am a purist at heart. But there are certainly no shortage of them, for those who do indulge. I love the Smileage club which gives points on each purchase and even gives you free froyo for your Birthday. Best of all, the hours are awesome. I live right next door and usually get a craving at 1045pm which allows me just enough time to whip down there and fill up. I am a frozen yoghurt fanatic - it doesn't twist my gut like most other dairy products - so I absolutely had to try the new location of Menchie's near 87 Avenue and 109 Street in the Garneau area. I was impressed with the number and variety of flavours. I wish the chocolate and vanilla dispensers worked a bit better. I ended up with original tart flavour as well as tart cherry. I could have just done a twist of them, as they were in the same machine, but oh well. The number of self-serve toppings was also huge, and leaned on the candy side, as well as nuts, chocolates, granola, and fruit. I went with a rather diverse assortment of Smarties, granola, Skor bits, chocolate rocks, and chocolate macaroons. Did I mention this was my lunch? Stop judging me. Payment is by weight and there is only one size of cup. Staff are very friendly. This place bodes a definite return visit. read more

These guys are running a huge scam, so beware. I went here once and decided to just try the blueberry cheesecake yogurt by itself just to see if it was any good. It was terrible, terribly bland and hardly any taste to it. It was so gross after 2 bites I threw it out. Then it dawned on me - these folks charge by weight so they've intentionally made the yogurt bland so you load up on toppings, increase the weight, and they can charge more. Terrible frozen yogurt place and I'm never coming back. This is the only frozen yogurt place I've been to that had bland froyo - mind you it's the only place that charges by weight too.... I'm a late acceptor of the self frozen yogurt craze, which isn't so much a craze these days as it is more of the norm. The fact is I trust myself very little to create a decent froyo concoction worthy of consumption. It seems most places I try exacerbates the underdeveloped nature of my froyo mixology skills. The exception to this is Menchie's. Maybe it's the happily smiling yogurt cup character sending dangerously positive vibes my way, maybe it's the helpful staff, maybe it's the celebrities photos on the walls that makes me think I'm cool, maybe everything has just the right amount of whatever chemical that makes everything taste just right. I'm not sure. But it seems like no matter what I put together here it's very good. Salted pretzel yogurt with blue whales and rain forest frogs ... So good! Blue raspberry and fruit punch yogurt with cantaloupe, papaya and kiwi ... So good and fools myself into thinking I'm going healthy. Load up on everything chocolate ... So wrong, but so good! Everything here just makes me happy. The atmosphere positive and Garneau! I can't think of a better place to spend 30 mins satisfying that sweet tooth. read more

Menchie's. Menchie's. Menchie's. You are Edmonton's froyo queen. Menchie's is one of my favourite froyos joints in Edmonton. First of all - FREE UNLIMITED SAMPLES. Well I shouldn't really say unlimited as you will need to pay for your froyo at some point. There are sample cups that are accessible to customers so that you can try the froyo flavours before you make your ultimate decision. There's always so many different flavours to choose from such as red velvet cupcake, cake batter, salted caramel, grape soda, cotton candy, chocolate, malt chocolate, and many more. The flavours are always changing so you never know what they might be serving. Now the best thing about having the ability to have a sample of any flavour is that you discover that some flavours are really not as good as they sound. But it is all a part of the fun. Other froyo places do not let you have samples or they require the staff to dispense the samples. However, having the freedom to be responsible for your own samples is a fabulous thrill. After making the big decision, you can choose from a large assortment of toppings! Nanaimo bars, M&Ms, maraschino cherries, and Skor bits caught my eye. No samples of these though unfortunately. At the end of the adventure the froyo is weighed to determine the price. Oddly enough, last time my friend and mine both cost $4.41 each. How is that possible? Conveniently located in the parking lot next to my house, this is my treat place. When it first opened, I'm pretty sure I was in here once a week. The flavors of frozen yogurt are generally good, and I love how you can taste test them yourself at your leisure. I make sure to check out the toppings first, due to sometimes my favorites not being in stock for that time. The Smileage Club is a great idea, as I have racked up many many points. The concept is simple. Pick up a bowl. Fill it with frozen yogurt. Add toppings if you wish. Pay. Eat. Enjoy! read more

I LOVE frozen yogurt, so I was interested in trying this place out! I've been here a few times now, and I'd say it's pretty good. I basically taste all the flavours, which is the funnest part, and go with the ones I like the best. The yogurt itself varies. They have some of the best-tasting flavours I've ever had, like the Pure Chocolate and the Pina Colada Tart and some of the weirdest, like Chocolate Covered Banana. They even recently have a blue flavour to promote the new Smurfs movie. Kinda cool. Everything is clearly marked: gluten-free, no sugar added, calories, dairy-free, etc. The toppings are most impressive: the widest range I've seen at any frozen yogurt place. They even have karob chocolate chips, and I really like that they have sugar-free chocolate syrup! I pile a ton of that stuff on. I'm not sure if it's just me, but this place does seem a bit more expensive than Tutti Frutti; however, they do have a rewards program, so that sort of makes up for it. I do like the yogurt here, but I prefer to take it to go. The atmosphere is kind of weird. Seems more like a kids place. But Menchie's is definitely on the top of my list for frozen yogurt places! I started off the wrong foot. After a co-worker raved about her daughter's yogurt flavour (green apple tart, I believe) from several nights before, I went to the Menchie's website and was teased by all the flavours they *might* have at any given location on any given day. Several caught my eye. I've been in a fruity mood lately, and I was dying to try the blueberry cheesecake or lemon. I finally made it down several days later and wound my way to the wall of yogurt. I searched frantically for the flavours that had made my sweet tooth tingle ... and not a one was there. I must be the silliest, whiniest Menchie's customer ever--a bajillion flavours to choose from, and I didn't want a single one. I should have gone for plain old vanilla or chocolate and enhanced it with some of the offerings from their generous toppings bar, but for some reason still unknown to me, I chose the cookies and cream. Don't get me wrong--it was good and I slurped down the entire 245 grams within minutes--but I was left unfulfilled. I'm not giving up on Menchie's, and I will return soon. read more

Edmonton has a range of frozen yogurt establishments and I decided to try this new one out after pilates at Bodyworks next door one day (you know, as a reward). I'm giving Menchie's 3 stars because although their frozen yogurt is good (hello cake batter!) and reasonably priced, the concept of the topping buffet (à la Tutti Frutti) creeps me out a little for communicable diseases reasons. As in, I'm not confident that all patrons are as conscientious with food handling as I am (particularly, perhaps, on a weekend where the crowd on this street gets a little drunk and disinhibited). The service was also a little sluggish but they are new and possibly still working out some kinks. I'll probably go back but will save my fro-yo calories for Pinkberry (where toppings are carefully doled out in a controlled setting) during rare WEM excursions. read more

As the first Menchie's to open in Edmonton, the Garneau location is an eye-popping, colourful and fun cafe that serves delicious frozen yogurt to suit any preference and all tastes. "Mench" is traditionally a Yiddish word and means "a person of integrity or honour" - the froyo chain has adapted this to mean "someone you'd be happy to befriend." I think it serves the cafe well; with a frozen yogurt mascot and the tagline "We make you smile," Menchie's channels all the charm and sweetness of its playful build-your-own yogurt brand. During the Grand Opening, the owners of Menchie's Garneau provided us with a history of the franchise before convincing us all to participate in a build-your-own froyo competition. We were given a chance to taste the different varieties of frozen yogurt, and I was surprised to learn that Menchie's not only offers traditional froyo, but gluten free, nonfat, low carb, non-dairy, vegan, and kosher options, as well. The dairy options, when possible, are made using milk from Alberta cows, giving Menchie's a local YEG touch. I've always been a fan of froyo, but the frozen yogurt at Menchie's is on a different level. Creamy, tart, fruity, chocolatey, and minty, the combination possibilities are endless. The cafe also offers a wide variety of topping selections, from skor pieces, to cookie dough, to kiwis and popping lychee balls (boba). We didn't win the make-your-own-froyo competition, but it was still fantastic! I'm also a fan of Tutti Frutti, but Menchie's definitely has more options, especially for those with particular dietary concerns. So good! read more

BEST FROZEN YOGURT OF ALL TIME! I hit Menchies every single week and I seriously think I need Menchies rehab! The flavours they have are phenomenal and there are SO MANY to choose from. Every flavour they have tastes exactly like the realt hing and it is mind blowing. The best part is they give you sample cups and let you try each flavour before you fill your cup - which is perfect for an indecisive person such as myself. AND THE TOPPINGS!! Seriously what don't they have! Any type of candy, fruit , chocolate you can imagine. Also brownies, cheesecake, naniamo bars like is this real life?!?! I'm a fan of frozen yogurt in general. It's a great little treat that you don't have to feel too guilty about eating (unless you go overboard on the cheesecake topping. No judging. We all go there once and a while.). We were there on a spring night on a Tuesday, so it wasn't too busy. The system is pretty easy to deduce: grab a bowl, choose your froyo flavour(s) - I went for a swirl of papaya and black cherry, a great combo it turns out! - add your toppings, then weigh & pay! Awesome, awesome fro-yo! The selection is always changing so you have something new to taste every time you visit. There are peanuts and nuts offered as toppings, so just fyi if you have allergies, but there are many, many other options that range from gummies to chocolate chunks to fruit! The more you load up the more you will pay. My average is about $7 with about a half cup frozen yogurt, nuts, and a couple of gummie bears :! Get the smileage card to get points and then earn money off! Furthermore, the place is clean, has plenty of seating, is close to the University and its open super late, which is superb in the summer when it's hot! read more

I love Menchie's!! I finally jumped on the Menchie's train late this summer and have been obsessed ever since! I find it so exciting to walk and see a wall full of different frozen yogurts and sorbets to try! Then you can have your choice of the many toppings such as fruit, candy, cookie dough bits, chocolate sauces or my personal favourite skor pieces! I was excited to see if they would have any holiday flavours. In which they did! Gingerbread, egg nog and candy cane. Menchie's where have you been? My search for the best fro-yo is over! I have a new addiction and it is Menchie's. There are probably 16 flavours or so available, and each machine holds 2 flavours which can be swirled to combine flavours. Not only is there regular frozen yogurt, they also offer sorbet, sugar free varieties, non fat versions, soy yogurt, and Greek yogurt fro-yo. After deciding which flavour(s) to choose, don't worry, they offer tasting cups so you can avoid making poor choices that you may regret, you head over to the largest topping bar I have ever seen at a frozen yogurt establishment. We are talking mini cheesecake pieces, pieces of cookie dough, lots of candies, every type of chip ( yogurt/chocolate/peanut butter etc) invented, loads of crushed candy bars and popping bobbo! Both times I have filled my bowl ridiculously full and gotten out for under $7. (It was my dinner though - mmmm). I hope there are many more Menchie's planned for YEG, I am a big fan! read more

This has to be one of my favorite nightly getaways. While living in downtown edmonton I loved walking across the high level to enjoy this glorious treat! I'd come here with friends or my fiancé truthfully it's good for any occasion. I love the flavours available and all the treats you can put on top of your frozen yogurt. I'm a fan of Menchie's. They have a good selection of frozen yogurt and toppings. I usually go to Tutti Frutti, but Menchie's definitely has more topping selection, which is nice. But this Menchie's is kind of a pain to get to. It's in Garneau by Remedy and if you're driving south on 109 Street you can't turn left to the building you have to go up the block and around and then down the back alley. The parking lot here is usually full, and it's quite busy. I find it kind of funny that there are only two Menchie's in Edmonton and they're both within a few blocks of each other (the other location is on Whyte Ave). As good as the froyo is here, and it is good it's also pricier than other froyo places. If I'm on the right (literally the right side) of the road (109) and in the area then stopping at Menchie's is possible. For the most part I'm content to get my froyo at other places. If you're in the area it's a solid place to check out. read more

I love this place! The only thing I can harp on is that the vanilla flavoured frozen yogurt dispenser seems to be shot and the staff don't seem to be willing to fix it. You really have to work for your yogurt. read more

Every time I've been to Menchies the Froyo is watery. It's terrible, it's basically already melting when you squeeze it out of the machine. The taste also leaves a bad after taste in my mouth, like I've ate something sugary. I'll stick to Tuti Frutti thanks. Never going back. read more

We attempted to have a menchies treat today though when we pulled in the parking lot a very angry Asian man in a safety vest was yelling and screaming at us. We advised him we were going into the menchies that we parked in front of. This guy was rude and crazy. We left without gracing your door. Went there the other day and I have to say the service was phenomenal! The two workers (I believe their names were Sara and Mansher) gave the best customer service I've ever experienced. They helped me choose the BEST toppings and BEST yogurt flavour aka cake batter. Love it!! And the tables were absolutely spotless....I can never go to another frozen yogurt place after going to 87th ST Menchie's ... if I were the manager I would give Sara and Mansher a raise.... $20 an hour.
