We really rented a car to visit the Mendenhall Glacier but once that beauty was seen, off to the world's smallest Costco side quest for lunch!! What's different here: - No gas/fuel center - No rotisserie chicken - No in-house bakery. They have baked goods, but from an outside bakery and selection is small. - No pizza in the food court. They have mostly everything else food-wise - we got the usual $1.50 hot dog combo. The food court is inside, and there's a small covered seating area outside. Besides the compactness and difference noted above, seems to me just like a regular Costco. The samples here are tasty and the same friendly staff. The outside backdrop is beautiful (just like the Costco in Bend, Oregon!). I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but will indulge him in Costco tourism for novelty reasons since we already had the car.

One of the most fun things to me is to visit Costco stores wherever I visit. I know that sounds…read moreweird, but each store has a section that stocks items that are unique to the area. This location in Juneau, Alaska is supposedly "the world's smallest Costco," and I have no reason to doubt that claim. This is a compact yet fully stocked warehouse that's a blast to browse! The parking lot is small, and the store is located off the main drag. there's a spectacular towering mountain as a backdrop. This Costco is tiny but has everything you may need. Note that prices, especially on produce, are a lot higher than you'd expect back home. For example, we regularly buy the huge bags of fresh oranges in Las Vegas for $8 a bag. Here, they cost $11. But it's a landlocked Alaskan town, so that's to be expected. I got a kick out of the Alaska-specific items on offer, like value packs of bear spray and clam guns. They sell a lot of gear that's useful for campers and people going fishing, too. There are even crab traps for sale! This location has a very tiny snack bar that's extremely popular with the locals. And yes, their famous hot dog still costs $1.50 here. Note that this location does NOT have a fuel center. They DO utilize the new scanner machines at the door, so you can easily use the electronic version of your membership card on your phone for easy and quick access (in case you forgot to bring your physical, plastic membership card). If you're looking for some retail entertainment, check out the Juneau Costco.

They also have a…read moreseparate section that sells clothing and small appliances, so it's like a supermarket and department store all in one. There's a massive parking lot with plenty of spots, a full-service pharmacy, and an on-site fuel center too. Since this chain is owned by the same one that runs Kroger and Smith's I was excited that I could earn rewards points with my purchase! The store has a big deli and bakery with fresh items, and has all sorts of local and national brands. The prices are on the high side (this is Alaska, after all), but they carry just about everything you could ever need or want. There's even a small section that sells generic Alaska souvenirs if you need to pick up something for the folks back home.

A Well-Stocked Retail Chain with Room for Improvement in Customer Service! This longstanding retail…read morechain is a one-stop shop for everything you might need, from groceries and fresh produce to apparel, furniture, electronics, housewares, and more. Walking into the store, I immediately noticed the clean, well-organized layout, making it easy to navigate through the different sections. The selection is impressive, offering a variety of styles and options, whether you're shopping for clothing, home essentials, or fresh vegetables and meats. One of the biggest conveniences is the ample parking space, so you never have to worry about finding a spot, even during peak hours. Inside, the store also features a pharmacy, appliances, electronics, and plenty of other interesting finds, making it a great place to explore if you're looking for everyday essentials or even a few unexpected deals. While the store itself was clean, well-maintained, and had great promotions, the customer service was unfortunately not up to par. What really stood out was my experience at self-checkout. I expected a quick and smooth process, but the cashier assisting at self-checkout seemed unprepared and overwhelmed. When I asked for help scanning the barcode for my loyalty discount on the app, she didn't seem to know how to find it. Instead of trying to figure it out or asking another employee for assistance, she appeared stressed, nervous, and ultimately didn't make an effort to resolve the issue. She also seemed distracted and wasn't fully listening to my questions, which was quite disappointing. A little more attentiveness and willingness to help would have made a huge difference in the overall experience. Sign Up for Membership. Despite the customer service hiccup, the store does offer great promotions and discounts, but to take advantage of them, you should sign up for the free membership. It's fast and easy to do online by simply downloading the store's app. This will give you access to special deals, reward points, and additional savings at checkout. This store has a lot of potential, with its wide selection, fresh produce, and clean, organized layout. However, they could improve their customer service training, especially at self-checkout, to ensure a smoother experience for shoppers. Would I come back? Yes, for the convenience and selection. But I'd be prepared to navigate checkout on my own if needed.
