S is such a Costco fanboy that I'm convinced he rented a car from the cruise terminal simply to make a trip out here. I kid! We really rented a car to visit the Mendenhall Glacier but once that beauty was seen, off to the world's smallest Costco side quest for lunch!! What's different here: - No gas/fuel center - No rotisserie chicken - No in-house bakery. They have baked goods, but from an outside bakery and selection is small. - No pizza in the food court. They have mostly everything else food-wise - we got the usual $1.50 hot dog combo. The food court is inside, and there's a small covered seating area outside. Besides the compactness and difference noted above, seems to me just like a regular Costco. The samples here are tasty and the same friendly staff. The outside backdrop is beautiful (just like the Costco in Bend, Oregon!). I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but will indulge him in Costco tourism for novelty reasons since we already had the car. read more

One of the most fun things to me is to visit Costco stores wherever I visit. I know that sounds weird, but each store has a section that stocks items that are unique to the area. This location in Juneau, Alaska is supposedly "the world's smallest Costco," and I have no reason to doubt that claim. This is a compact yet fully stocked warehouse that's a blast to browse! The parking lot is small, and the store is located off the main drag. there's a spectacular towering mountain as a backdrop. This Costco is tiny but has everything you may need. Note that prices, especially on produce, are a lot higher than you'd expect back home. For example, we regularly buy the huge bags of fresh oranges in Las Vegas for $8 a bag. Here, they cost $11. But it's a landlocked Alaskan town, so that's to be expected. I got a kick out of the Alaska-specific items on offer, like value packs of bear spray and clam guns. They sell a lot of gear that's useful for campers and people going fishing, too. There are even crab traps for sale! This location has a very tiny snack bar that's extremely popular with the locals. And yes, their famous hot dog still costs $1.50 here. Note that this location does NOT have a fuel center. They DO utilize the new scanner machines at the door, so you can easily use the electronic version of your membership card on your phone for easy and quick access (in case you forgot to bring your physical, plastic membership card). Love the Costco Juneau location. It's a bit out of town for cruise passengers but there's a city bus that goes near it. I found fantastic bargains here and some much needed snacks -since cruise ships never seem to put out potato chips. read more

I'm a major Costco fan and a very reliable customer. The tire center has repeatedly let me down over the past couple of years. Mainly having to do with them not keeping appointments and long lines. Each time I get tires swapped it takes hours of my time instead of just a quick drop off of keys and pick it up when it's done. I will continue to shop at Costco because of the value, but the tire center needs help. I've started going elsewhere. read more

Yes, there is a Costco in Juneau. Apparently it serves several nearby towns as well. It's Costco. Very much like any other Costco, though I'm pretty sure I saw a small crab trap ("pot"). Won't find that in my local Costco (Arizona)! There is a shuttle that runs from the pier at $10 per head (at least that's what we were told), but we went in with a few others who wanted to go and called for Lyft instead. We were able to get what we needed, teamed-up again and got a Lyft back to the dock area. Or was it an Uber? Whichever. Anyway, this is a Costco similar to any other, and if you need SD cards or anything like that it is probably worth the trip over here. No tourist pricing, but this is Alaska and everything has to be shipped in. read more

I visited Costco a few times this week. Recently, I read an article about a Tinde couple that had their first date at Costco, ate samples, tried on hats, and shared a slice of pizza. Monday, I didn't have anything in my cabinets to eat for lunch. So, I got the beef hot dog (no more Polish dogs). 8" and pretty big, but a little too much meat for me. Yesterday, I went for the new acai bowl (for breakfast today) and a chicken bake. The chicken bake like a giant stuffed hot pocket filled with creamy cheesy bacon goodness. I probably could've eaten the whole thing, but saved the other half for my snack. I was a little disappointed that they were out of the cotton candy grapes (in which I had to run back to the grocery store for fruit and cheese). Samples were 7 layer dip, a chocolate panda cracker, white cheddar, hummus, Nutella with crackers, pepperoni jerkey sticks, and an oh-so-amazing 5 cheese tortellini with pesto sauce (so easy to prepare and I went back twice- guilty). Now as far as the acai bowl, it was beautifully presented with a curly-cew. At first bite, I was struck by how artificially sweet it was compared to other acai bowls I've had. But, the farther I got in the better it tasted. The best part was the crunchy granola to balance out the creamy taste. As sweet as it was, I added a little honey to it. Costco seems to have been made for me. I love meat and they have the best deal in town, I found the clothing brand I prefer to be stocked there! The various other brands are quality too. It's like a fancier version of "As seen on TV" store. And the only real catch is you must buy more of your choice for less money! 9 out of 10 shopping experiences are good. read more

Some prices are good but most is the same as if you went to a regular store for meat. Only difference is buying larger quantities but you can do that anywhere. On the bright side I do like to see what samples they have as everyone else does. I know if the meat prices were cheaper then they would have less waste and more sales. read more

Can't complain too much about this smaller Costco. It really does carry a lot for its small footprint. They have a pharmacy finally with just about everything commonly needed. Wish they had a photo center, and the apples are usually not the freshest ever. Also the prices are always a few bucks more than the lower 48 prices. I also noticed the expiration dates on things are a lot sooner vs. later. Therefor I still try to order most of my shelf stable items from Washington state for better expiration dates. They do mail order here for the "bush" which is nice for us small town folks! read more

Dear Costco: cook your damn churros. They are dough with cinnamon on top. Moving on to the enormous, also undercooked chicken bakes, here's a tip: don't stuff your chicken bakes to breaking point. That will give it a crunchy outside and a disgusting inside. Also, lay back on the cheese. Dear Lord, it's overpowered by cheese! And finally...the hotdogs. What even. I was sick for an actual week after eating half of a hotdog. I had no idea that it was possible to undercook everything consistently, but they've pulled it off. The place is small but is well stocked up. We found our things easily here and at similar prices as in our regular California Costco stores. One serious problem I found in this place: Guarding its door, there is a bully-type "bouncer". When we entered, this meaty and somewhat threatening-looking guy asked to check our Costco membership card in street-thug style dialogue; and when we were leaving he yelled at us: "hey, hey, hey, let me see your receipts". I don't pay a hefty annual Costco membership fee for them to "hey, hey, hey" me. In our regular CA Costco stores, there are guards in security uniform politely asking to check our membership cards and workers use the magic words, "please", and "thanks" to customers. Don't know why this Costco store treats customers differently. read more

These guys got me in for an appointment within a week of asking for one, which given that this was during "PFD" season, was amazing to me. They even alerted me to the failings of another auto shop in town regarding my lugnuts, and took the time to educate me on the matter and do the job right. On top of that, they offered to take another look within a few dozen miles of driving to make sure it's not a problem with my car. If you desperately need a tire change with no notice whatsoever, you may struggle to get your car into this shop in a timely manner. But when it comes to seasonal tire changes, or tire replacement due to worn tread - both of which are easily predicted - these guys simply can't be beat. read more

I bought new tires at the Costco Tire Center and the prices and service was excellent! I was able to get an appointment within a few days. When I showed up they were able to take my car in early and finished it very quickly. I'm very happy with their service. read more

Plus it's the cheapest booze in town and you always need to keep a stock pile of the Kirkland vodka (red label not the blue) on hand in case friends come over. It's horrible! They have no special or unique Juneau, Alaska items nor do they have any Great 50% off gift cards for anything other than a carwash. You have to pay $10 at the port to even get to the Costco if you're visiting. Don't waste your time and just shop online. read more

I've visited here twice, once to look into buying an iPad Pro, and recently to help my elderly friend shop. Both times, because I haven't previously known some rule or another, I've been treated like a criminal by either a security officer or a cashier. Small and major appliances, groceries, tires, books, clothing, beverages, electronics, computers, LED televisions, consumables on a large volume is moved from their warehouse into consumer's hands. Selection of choices are limited and not always at the best prices. You may buy basic needs i.e. shirt, shoes, underwear is fairly simple and straight forward at this membership warehouse. read more

Worst Costco in the Country. This store is half the size of a normal store. Why? They are constantly out of goods. It serves all of south east Alaska yet seems to have been spec'd for only Juneau. They closed the bakery and now sell more eyeglasses? Just crazy. No where is more obvious that this company is only in it for the highest possible profit margins. There are no paper bags available, but they are in all of the lower Costco's. This store expects to bring your own bags and pack your own groceries. Basically give us your money and GET OUT! There are no Juneau Alaska specific products. This is the Store Costco forgot about. The only thing warm to eat is hotdogs or chili, go figure. read more

It's a lot better to shop here than it is to work here, I'll tell you that right off the bat. But you can't get a cheaper lunch in Juneau than grabbing a hot dog or a polish from the food court, and they have some other good food there too, like the awesome greasy turkey provolone sandwich that sits in your stomach like a boulder (in a good way), or the greasy chicken bakes, or the somehow-greasy churros. Super cheap booze, too, and now they have an eye doctor contracted, so you can get cheap glasses once you get an eye exam there. Note that the eye doctor doesn't work under Costco's optical department, though, and you should ask Eye on Health directly if you have questions about exams. Anyway, who can forget the free samples? You do the circuit, taste some cool treats, then go grab a hot dog. If you can stand navigating packed aisles full of people standing around discussing their life stories, it's not a bad way to spend a Saturday! read more

Nik and Tuey are the best. My GPS broke. They got it exchanged after a ordeal of trying to find the item in the warehouse. It is a long story but they took care of everything. These two were very nice. Best Costco experience ever! read more
