The location is perfect if you prefer a beach hotel that is a little further away from downtown and you drive to the island (I know they have a shuttle but we never used it). If you do bring kids, they have a lot of onsite events and you get a full schedule to sign up upon arrival. They also have adult and family events as well but always make sure you sign up ahead of time as slots fill up quickly. Because you can walk to the beach, all rooms come with beach chairs that you can take with you (they're very light). TIP: The rooms themselves have been recently renovated (around 2024-2025) and they are beautifully decorated. The East Chop Suites are our favorites as the bedroom is next to the patio / facing the ocean while the ones on the West Chop have the living room connected to the patio/balcony and the bedroom is by the entrance door (makes it a little louder with people walking by in the morning).

There are tidal pools on both the far left and far right of the the beach. In the the summer high season ithe beach is only open to West Tisbury residents. In the past , it was possible for non-residence to use the Beach in the off-season. I believe it is the best beach on the island.

NOT FAMILY-FRIENDLY…read more The beach itself is excellent. The overall experience is not. The town of West Tisbury permits only one car *per house* to park at the beach. So if you have multiple families (with little kids) sharing a house, and everyone in the house wants to go simultaneously, then they must be shuttled. Which potentially means adding & removing car seats. The town also doesn't seem to have accounted for the case where multiple families from the same house may arrive at different times. (Ex: One family in the permitted car, another family dropped off by someone who doesn't want to go to the beach.) The town gives only 1 set of credentials. Fine, allow only one car. But why not give one beach access card to each family? Finally, this information's buried. We learned it at the pass office; it wasn't in the guidebook we bought, the websites we'd checked, nor our rental's info packet. Hopefully this review will help other families avoid this pitfall. ‍

Van Leesten Memorial Bridge in 2020; it opened in August 2019. It was built on existing piers from the old highway, I-95. The bridge goes over the Providence River and connects two neighborhoods, Fox Point and the Jewelry District. There's a park nearby, called District 195; events are hosted at this location. The bridge was beautiful to walk on day and night. There were railings, benches, tables, and chess tables; at night there were LED lights that brighten the area. A wonderful area for walkers and cyclists. The view of the city skyline was breathtaking. One evening we were there, we saw the star-link satellite flying by, it was awesome. The downfall was, this bridge cost the city $21.9 million when the original budget was supposed to be $2 million. People were opposed with building this bridge because RI had the highest amount of bridges with structural issues. In the end, the bridge was built and it's become a popular attraction and landmark.

I don't comment often on wait staff, for the price you pay here they should train better. They were super slow, never even got water refills we asked for. Slow on all food entrees too it was like a two and a half hour dinner. When we first got there when it wasn't crowded they were attentive when they got crowded they got bad. We were on a tour to the Cape Poge Lighthouse-- also great, but the trip there was wonderful too because of the wetlands landscape & colorful commentary by local resident guide, Mary.
