I called twice inquiring about their services. I never received a response. Very disappointing.

Seems to be maybe a step up from a homeless shelter but that's about it. Zero care. Staff apathetic

Be very careful when choosing this place for your loved one. My mother (age 80) broke her hip, a…read morenon displaced break so no surgery but a good deal of pain. Hillcrest was, as usual, top notch. Discharged to physical therapy only bed open was Montefiore. There is no direct chain of command at Montefiore. There are a good many contract workers there. My mother was there for the PT and OT to get her up and walking so she could return home. COORDINATION OF CARE IS A DISASTER - Day one PT picked her up for PT and she had not been given her pain medication first - SO I HAD TO LEAVE WORK, GO THERE FIND OUT WHO THOUGHT SHE COULD HAVE PT WITH A PAIN SCORE OF 10 WITHOUT MEDICATION. I THEN HAD TO COORDINATE WITH THE FLOOR NURSE AND PT AN OT TO COME UP WITH A COMMON SENSE SCHEDULE AND PUT IT ON MY MOM'S WALL SO THAT SHE KNEW WHAT TO EXPECT. Day two they forgot about giving her breakfast so by the time she got out of PT and OT it was 1:30 and she was weak from hunger I HAD TO LEAVE WORK TO GO THERE AND GET HER SOMETHING TO EAT.... there is much more and I have had to go there EVERY DAY and TAKE TIME OFF WORK for something or another - TODAY we are on day 8, she was supposed to have showers on Wednesdays and Sundays she still has not had one....TODAY at 9:45 the nurse told my mother she was out of pain medication and needed another order from the Nurse Practitioner, Mary, MARY was nowhere to be found. They took my mother to PT and OT but of course she couldn't do any work - I HAD TO LEAVE WORK AND GO THERE TO FIND OUT WHY on day 6 they did not go and find out if my mother would need more pain medication so that she could have good CONTINUATION OF CARE. I waited for 75 minutes for NP Mary, our floor nurse said MARY was aware of the situation and would get to my mother. MY MOTHER HAD ALREADY MISSED HER PT and OT because she was unable to do them without her pain medication. OUT OF FRUSTRATION I went to the front office and found a woman named JENNA who tracked down the NP, got a paper order, and brought it to the nurse so she could dispense the medication 11:40 at this time - then I HAD TO GO TO PT and try to coordinate a PT and OT time in the afternoon when the medication was still giving her enough relief to go through the exercises but not too late, as the effects would wear off. They said they would tell her a time in the afternoon that they would come and get her for PT and OT. I THEN LEFT BECAUSE I HAD TO GO TO WORK I WAS 4 HOURS LATE ALREADY - as of this writing at 1:48 the NP still has not gone to my mother's room. She might have thought, well I gave the paper order for more pain medication BUT SHE SHOULD HAVE GONE TO CHECK AND SEE IF THERE WERE ANY OTHER ISSUES - AND SHE DID NOT. I come from a family of physicians. WE HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH POOR COORDINATION OF CARE AND CHAIN OF COMMAND. UNREASONABLE AND OUTRAGEOUS. I will go over the Medicare billing with a fine tooth comb, I will report medicare fraud if I find it.

Montefiore was told the wait time would be 60-90 minutes!! Totally unacceptable. From the time we were told the ambulance was called, until she arrived at the Emergency Room..... almost 2 hours had past. TERRIBLE!!! Why couldn't these people call 911? Bed sores, pneumonia, etc. How did they miss all of this?

My parents have lived there for about a year…read more My mom fell getting into bed early one the morning. She pressed her emergency button and it took almost two hours until someone responded. Luckily she was not seriously injured and was discharged from the hospital the same day. The executive director and I discussed this and the system has been tested and modified and her pendant will be checked. The dryer has been replaced once (with a used one from another apartment) and still takes hours to dry a single load. This is very stressful for her. After discussing with the executive director, the setup will be replaced and technicians will be in to check the installation. Maintenance requests are an issue. I am not sure if the requests are being entered correctly or are being lost or if there is an issue with how they are being communicated. The cleaning, dining room and front desk staff are caring and try to help. I am more comfortable after a discussion with the director, time will tell.

She was very apolgetic and she said all of my complaints have been reviewed with the staff and my mom would receive much better care. My mom was telling the staff that they didnt need to help her she could do it herself. She didnt want to inconvience anybody. All is well and I'm sure there will be much improvement now that these issues have been addressed. Thank you Kimberly for all of your help.

The building itself is always clean, homey and well-decorated (non-institutional). Much thought has been given to creating a pleasant experience for visitors and residents alike. Garden areas are wonderful during spring, summer and fall for walks, bird watching, gardening. There are plenty of events, celebrations to meet various interests/abilities. They have just built a new addition which was handled in such a creative, thoughtful way -- residents' lives remained normal and calm despite construction. Plus, it is beautiful! Most important, I am thrilled with the level of care, concern and genuine affection/compassion the staff provides and exhibits toward my mother, as well as the other residents. Patience, understanding, creativity and sense of family are very evident whether a resident's family member is present or not. Nurses and caregivers have gone out of their way to meet my mother's needs and mine as well -- so I'd don't need to guess how she is doing. They share anecdotes of what she's said or done during the day; if she's happy, sad; ate well/or not so well; was up all night or slept well -- without my asking. This is very important to me as her primary caregiver. They are truly extensions of me and do it better than I ever could at this point in her journey. We are both blessed to have found such a wonderful place for her to live.
