I had a beard trim yesterday and it was the worst trim I've ever had in my life. Had to go home and trim it myself and it still looks terrible. $20.00 for 5 minutes to destroy my beard. No straight razor used and complete lack of training on bread trimming. read more

(8/10/19) I gave MUG another go, and I have returned with a new tune. Treating the anomaly that is my hair has been my greatest cosmetic undertaking since moving to Arizona. As I have remarked before, there is one stylist who for years -- no matter the travel expenses -- I have trusted with my hair. However, before tending to matters of style, practicality should always be accounted for. Today, I am pleased to say that a much more local stylist has my confidence, as does the Men's Ultimate Grooming in Tempe. I was greeted this morning by Tanya. With a glance at my reference photos, she methodologically performed an excellent haircut. As a point of contrast, every other cut I've had in Arizona has been touched up at home, albeit badly (I don't know how the hell to cut hair), with an old pair of makeup scissors. That was not necessary today. The length on the sides and back was perfect. The top, though on another glance I'd enjoy little lower, was still exceptionally done. In addition to the successful trim, I elected to receive the "Ultimate Cut", which includes an aromatic face massage, shampoo/conditioner, and hot towel treatment. Tanya took her time with all these services, and I left MUG feeling rejuvenated. Best of all, the following morning, no amount of bed head seemed to adversely impact the integrity of the cut. All in all, it was a job well done by Tanya. Finding a good barber shop when you've moved far away is tough. Proper hair care demands reliability, and I defer to the scruples of Ron Burgundy when it comes to entrusting my hair to a new stylist. From this visit, I have restored my faith in MUG. I'm glad to have come back, and I am looking forward to scheduling my next appointment. read more

I don't enjoy posting negative reviews, but when my husband called me on his way home expressing his thoughts, it was hard to resist. My husband went here for his first time, and the barber did not listen to what he wanted. His hair is a bit complex, so he informed her that he wanted to keep a lot of length to his hair. Unfortunately, it's the shortest both he and I have ever seen his hair. He specifically asked for his sideburns to be faded and they're not at all and it looks slightly odd. She missed a couple other small spots on the front/side and it doesn't look great. Not sure if the barber was having a hard day, feeling lazy, or is inexperienced (he doesn't remember her name), but in a couple weeks when his hair grows, I'm sure it'll look a lot nicer. The barber was incredibly kind to him, but she didn't heed his wants at all, and he is a bit insecure by his hair now. This was for our trip out of state in a couple days, and now he will most likely be wearing a hat most of the trip. I'm sure a lot of others benefit and enjoy this place, but unfortunately it was his first and last time going here. read more

Do NOT go to this location. Poor management, unreliable staff and they do not care about their customer's time. Not sure why I kept going back, but they're a joke. Always booked appointments and often the staff member would forget their keys and need to reschedule or just not show up at all. Prioritize your time and go elsewhere. read more

When I first relocated out to Arizona in 2015, I was nervous to find a new stylist. I tried out MUG at Westgate, where I met Tanya. She's absolutely phenomenal, and her attention to detail is unrivaled. Fast forward to now, and I'm driving to Tempe from the West Valley to get my hair cut by her. Horrible first impression. MUG opened up close to our home so I made an APPOINTMENT for my son with Mckenzie.I get a confirmation text and we arrive on time. There are two stylist and two clients in the chair upon our arrival. I check in and we were advised it'll be a few minutes. 15 minute passes and we're still waiting. Mckenzie approaches me after her client was done and advises that she'd be ready as soon as she cleans her station. She comes back few minutes later and decides to take another client that walked in - she probably thought that she'd have a better chance getting a repeat customer from this guy than an upset mother! We waited 30 minutes over our appointment time. Elaine, who cut my sons hair was wonderful and apologetic. Mckenzie, not so much. Not even an apology. She traded in long term gains for short term gains! I was planning on sending my husband. No a great business practice! We'll drive further and stick with Floyds Barbershop! Don't waste your money on businesses that don't adhere to their own practices and treat customers poorly. read more

I moved to the neighborhood about six months ago and found MUG and thought I'd try them out. The location is upscale and is one of the nicer barbershops I've been to - they make it easy to schedule with an app, too. I had a great first cut, and second cut, and keep coming back. I got a great haircut from Elaine at MUG. Best haircut I've had in a long time. She listened to what I wanted and helped me refine my hair so it looked even better than I thought it could. I've received a ton of compliments on my haircut in the two days since she cut it. She even used a straight razor to trim up my neck and beard. Warm towel, little neck massage, flat screens by every chair. I think I even got some free therapy... I left feeling great. I've been searching for someone to go to consistently because it sucks explaining what you want to a new person every time, and getting a different haircut every time. Well I think I found her. **UPDATE: I attempted to use the haircut offer mug put on my account , but they are trying to charge me. No thanks! ** I came here to their Ultimate hair cut and I was sorely disappointed. As my hair was cut, I noticed visible patches the lady cutting my hair missed. When I pointed them out, she seemed surprised. And it wasn't just a rogue hair hiding, it was a couple patches. The patches were corrected after my hair was shampooed, which pretty much negated having my hair shampooed and washed. After the large visible patches were cleaned up, I could still see some inconsistencies and asked fur them to be corrected. But all of them weren't fixed. If I was given a mirror to check the final cut, I would have been able to spot the other problems. Finally, the lady put some kind of moisturizer on her hands and massaged my scalp. It was nice, however, she didn't wipe her hands off and ended up smearing hair all over my forehead. Needless to say, I'm not happy with my experience at this place. I've been to barber colleges and had a better haircut. read more

I got there on time but I was told they were booked solid and could not accommodate me. I showed them my confirmation email and that I had a valid appointment.
