I brought my son in today to get measured for a suit for his upcoming prom. Sam was the associate that helped us and he gave us outstanding service, was very helpful with all our questions and when we didn't find something in the price range we were looking at he gave us all the sizes and fits he liked and recommended checking the website for specials. Rude, Incompetent, No understanding of customer service, No effective supervision. In mid January I went to Men's Warehouse on Dixwell Ave. in Hamden, CT to order rent formal wear for my son's wedding for my son's wedding two months later. I was met by a rude woman who insisted I had to wear the same formal wear as the grooms party even though I was not part of that party. She became very insistent of this and I almost walked out if it were not for the free tux my son would receive for having others rent there. I was measured twice for my order and told I would be receiving an email notifying me when my suit came in. I had received no notification from them and finally called 3 days before the event and was told my suit had come in without any explanation as to why I was not notified. I went in the following day to try on the suit to find out that that the pants were 5 sizes too small. I was amazed at how this could happen after they had measured me twice. The only thing that I could conclude was that this was a malicious action by the rude employee who took my measurements. I was told that they would be able to replace those pants with the correct size and that I would have to come back again tomorrow. The following day I came in again and picked up the suit with the correct size pants. One of my other son's was in the groom party and attempted to pick up his suit that day as well from Men's Warehouse. When he tried on the pants they had apparently triple hemmed them so the pants just came down below his kneecap. He also had to come back again for the proper fitting pants. If you want to be treated rudely with no customer service to either notify you when your order is in or ensure that that you receive what you order then go to Men's Warehouse in Hamden, CT, otherwise go elsewhere. Based on the other reviews I have read here this unfortunately appears to be a frequent occurrence rather than an isolated instance, as a result they have earned a position on my banned for life list. I will not be making this mistake again! read more

Absolutely horrendous customer service. The guy that assisted in the return of a wedding tux today was extremely rude and totally unprofessional in his tone and demeanor. Will never use this location again. Men's warehouse in general has really gone down hill in recent years, and I can see why now when dealing with an unstable employee like that. I went to four different men's warehouses in Connecticut before I found this one on Dixwell Avenue. Every other store I went to I found the employees to be rude and incompetent. At this location the employees were courteous and went above and beyond what was expected. Odell was one of the most helpful and friendly employees I have ever encountered, and that's including any other business. My fiancee and I returned three separate times to have alterations done and each time we entered the store he greeted us and remembered who we were. If I were to recommend men's wearhouse, I would most certainly recommend this one. read more

Incompetence and apathy. Staff do not know how to measure. Tux pants were 4 inches too big in the waist and 3 inches too long. I questioned if they had pulled someone else's order by mistake and we double checked the name of the bag. Nope. This ill-fitting nightmare was "ours". The shirt collar was also two inches too large. When my son tried it on, the saleswoman was insistent that he "looked great". I asked for a second opinion and the second salesperson said "oh no, that's wrong." I found this ironic since the second salesperson was the one who measured him in the first place. So the one who thought he looked great (he actually looked like a little boy dressing up in his father's too-large suit) was either clueless or just didn't care. People usually rent tuxedos for formal, once- in-a-lifetime events. This experience really took some of the fun out of our important event and added a ton of stress. I will not be back. read more

Do not go here! I knew something should have been wrong when the sales associate was too busy trying to talk to his friends instead of pay attention to my rental. Nevertheless, my jacket was oversized and I spent the event swimming in it. No one thought it would appropriate to tell me they have a 24 hour turn around on returns, so my overpriced, wrong sized jacket cost me an extra 21 dollars. Please, do yourself a favor and find some where local where the people working there will actually care about you. read more

This place gets very low rating in my book. Because they're customer service sucks. I came in for a simple black bow tie. I asked for the cheapest tie because it was for my daughter music recital and this was her last year at that particular school. Anyway I asked for the cheapest bow tie the lady starts to show me $80 -$100 bow tie. I tried to give her a benefit of a doubt and ask was she new and she answered no. She then asked her coworkers were the other bow ties was at. They pointed out $50 -$60 bow tie. Finally fed up!! I turn to my daughter and say we are going to another store. That's when they find a bow tie for $20. Two registers are going there is one person in one line and I'm the second person in the other line. The guy in front of me just got finished ringing up. But the cashier does not want to ring up my items and passes me over to the other cashier. Who simply walks away from the register without saying a word to me. I am biting my tongue at this point. Trying to refrain from making a scene. But this was it. I simple stated that me and my family will not be shopping at this store any more and walked out. read more

Rented two tuxedo's from Hamden Men's Wearhouse. I found the staff to be very pleasant but the price to rent was ASTRONOMICAL. I would never go there again for a rental. Also, both my son and husband had fittings and both their tuxedo's did not fit. My son was only home for one day for the wedding so we had no choice but keep the tuxedo that did not fit as it was going to be 24 hours to get a new vest and the wedding was that day. I have rented plenty of tuxedo's in the past and always had a pleasant experience. Not this time. read more

*** Please Read *** Please don't ever give this store business! I am not one to write reviews but this store ruined one of the most important days of my life! I purchased a suit from them for my grandfather's funeral and spent a good bit of money to do so. They told me they would have it ready by 4pm on Friday (the day of the wake). I stated I would not have time to try it on so not to bother. They insisted that all they needed to do was hem the pants and sleeves a touch and that there was "nothing to worry about". So my mother (in her 60's) picked up this suit on Friday afternoon and drove it over an hour to drop off to me out of respect for my grandfather. A man she had not seen in over 20 years, she hasn't even spoken to. Knowing that she still hates my father like they were divorced yesterday. Fast forward to Saturday morning (funeral day) I wake up, shower, shave, and start to get ready. I open the suit bag to find Not My Suit!!!! I find a suit in the wrong color, the wrong jacket size, and the wrong pant size!!! A day where I am supposed to be a pallbearer for my grandfather, a day where I had "nothing to worry about" and I am left without a suit to wear! When I got to the store I was told, "I remember that is the suit you tried on"... until they checked the computer... "Oh, you're right... this isn't your suit... what would you like us to do about it?"... I would like for you to not embarrass me in front of my entire family... I would like you to have given me the right suit... I would like you to give me this day back! What I got was a refund... like I was some schmo that wanted to return a tie because it didn't match their shirt. No "let us refund your money and give you the suit you deserved", no "let me see what I can do and get my manager", no "holy crap I am so sorry"... just "there isn't anything we can do". So I say BOOOO this place! BOOOO Men's Warehouse! I beg of all of you still reading to shop anywhere but here! I will be happy to provide you with the name of places with better suits, cheaper prices, and better people! (Except Odell who treated me great the night my grandfather passed in helping me to pick the suit I wanted but didn't receive.) read more

If I could give 0 stars out of five I would, and I would like to believe I am a rational and objective person who is extremely slow to temper. I went in for what I thought would be a routine pickup. I'm in a wedding and I needed pants, vest and a shirt. The item's SKU were on a receipt and all they needed to do would be punch it in the computer and find the items. Oh boy was I was grossly misconceived. Our first assistant put in the wrong ID or grabbed the wrong item, and I almost purchased this wrong vest. By pure chance, my fiancé found a vest which was by the same company and she called the bride to see what the groomsmen's vest looked liked like. Bam, it was the exact same one my fiancé found on a rack. And even after the fact, the assistant tried to tell us she had it right, we were wrong. We quite literally had to grab the ticket from her and match the ID of the vests for her to believe. Next, they didn't have the shirt in the store that I needed. Okay, no biggie, let's just get it ordered and shipped. After 50 minutes of phone calls, the shirt was finally found and ordered. "Okay, great!" I thought. No; they ordered the wrong shirt despite having the SKU in front of them. This assistant quite literally gave the wrong SKU again. So we had to call back and get it right--another 30-40 minutes. To finalize the purchase, they needed my information and gave me a Men's Wearhouse ID card for future purchases purposes. The first assistant didn't even finalize the card, so when we came to ring up (for the third attempt) we had to go back and redo this process of creating a card ID. Next, the manager comes over to try to finish checking us out. He uses the MW card, only to realize it won't work--again. We give him our information for a third time and we're ring up. The price is $200 over what we're quoted by the first and second sales associates. Still calm, I tell him this can't be right. He insists it is, and goes as far as to say "this is what is on the groom's order, this is the price." I know for a fact that it isn't, and I tell him "No, this isn't right, and we've been here for 2.5 hours, can we please get something right." After I say this, it's complete silence on their end. After 10 more minutes of what I now believe is blind key smashing with no real intent of correcting the price, the manager becomes visually upset with an employee for leaving the desk because other customers are getting backed up. We're finally rung up at price which mildly resembles what my friend's (the groom) was, and I couldn't even muster the energy to question if it's right again and I just swipe. It doesn't stop here though... The associate began to put the pants and vest I purchased in store into a gallon-sized plastic bag--NOT hung up on a hanger and wrapped in plastic. My fiancé asks him to hang up the items, and he obliges. I know that sounds kind of pretentious, but seriously? Stuffing a "$400" valued wedding vest and pants in an undersized bag? Guys, come on. I have never even considered writing a review for anything in my life--and I have had plenty of poor customer-service interactions in my days. But this just shy of 3 hour, mistake-filled, being-rude-to-the-customer visit has pushed me to write my first review of my life. Starting with the new girl and ending with the manager, I've never seen anything quite like it. My fiancé and I work in healthcare. Do you think if I order the wrong meds I'll get a free pass? No, my career would be over. This store ordered the wrong 'meds' 13 times, and their conscious effort to increase their diligence between errors didn't increase at all. I sincerely hope this Hamden, CT Men's Wearhouse isn't a reflection of the company in its entirety, because if so, I strongly advise customers to take their precious time, energy, and money elsewhere. read more

This review is about the customer service this chain of businesses offers as well as quality of products rented. My husband rented a tux here for a wedding that he was in, taking place in Boston. Part way through taking photos with the bridal party, the sole of one of the bottoms of the shoes completely separated from the base of the shoe. This was incredibly disappointing given the price he paid in order to rent these shoes, but luckily, there was a Men's Warehouse 5 minutes away from the wedding venue. So he walked there, broken shoe and all, to be given attitude by the sales associate and a new pair of shoes that were not broken in, tight and very uncomfortable. Given the circumstance, I am shocked the associate was not even the list bit apologetic and frankly was rude. My husband figures, whatever, I will deal with the Men's Warehouse in Hamden, since that is where he rented the items from and had to return them to yesterday. One would think the logical thing to do if you had good customer service would be to apologize about the situation and maybe even knock the shoe rental fee off the bill, since they FELL APART in the middle of the festivities, but no. Once again, no apology was given or credit or refund, nothing. All he got was a "Well that's why it's a good thing we have locations everywhere". Unbelievable. I am so glad we didn't use Men's Warehouse for our wedding and I would never recommend anyone use them, unless you want your rented items falling apart in the middle of your occasion.
