We came here with some outlet Armani in need of alterations for an upcoming wedding. My partner also purchased a shirt and pants from her to match the jacket. We got it all back today. The shirt is not fit to his body at all. The pants were not altered, to the point rhey still had chalk in the bottom. And the jacket, still had the pockets stitched up. He doesn't have time to go back and have it fitted with his schedule leading up to the wedding - which is stressful - especially when you pay so much. When I asked the owner her rate she said she would have to see the garment and judge for herself what it would cost. I felt fine with that because the item I had in mind was a dress that just needed the slit closed. A Reformation Dress--pretty simple work if you know the design. When I came to pick up the dress I was charged $60...!!! --to close a slit in the dress. If those are Madison prices I will not be returning and warn anyone to steer clear. Never again...! Angie Lou destroyed my wedding dress for $650. After the first fitting, I returned (supposedly to pick up my dress) and my gown looked horrible. The dress was six inches too short, frayed at the edges, and the sheer fabric on the bodice was torn in two places. Worst of all, after a year of dieting and working out like crazy (and losing 30 pounds!), the dress was altered far too small - AND SHE BLAMED IT ON ME! She told me I had to be bloated and kept asking me if I had gained weight since the first fitting (I had in fact lost 5 more pounds). I was there by myself and burst into tears. Her response? She told me I was being dramatic and over-reacting. Even when I picked up my dress on the third try (that's 10+ hours total in the car driving back and forth for Angie Lou) and she swore it would be fixed, it wasn't the same. It still looked beautiful on the day-of thanks to some handiwork by my wedding planner and maid of honor, but it never looked the way it did the day I chose it. I was heartbroken, but after $650 already spent on alterations, I had no choice but to go forward. Angie Lou was recommended to me by Chelsea at Everthine Bridal. Though I had a wonderful experience with Everthine, I strongly recommend NOT using Angie Lou even if Everthine recommends her! Lena is an absolute gem in a business that deals with an art that is becoming obsolete and some of us really appreciate that. Not only is tailoring a gown incredibly pain staking in itself that requires a life long amount of endless evolution and the styles and construction of gowns evolve, but they are also the face of your wedding or special event and can often have to balance the clients nerves, anxieties and insecurities along with the initial job at hand which is to tailor your gown. The shop/studio itself is absolutely beautiful with a newly remodeled alteration section complete with immaculate herringbone floors that you can eat off of, a wet bar, and coffee/espresso. You go in feeling like the only person in the store. Pinning a gown doesn't take long, it's completely painless. The service itself is incredible. I walk in and they know me by name, the employees are very nice and accommodating. I've had 3 gowns tailored here to perfection and had a custom Italian suit (which they sell in the shop) tailored to perfection. When investing in a special gown, you should also invest in a perfect tailoring job. The 1st thing I notice when at a wedding is a dress that could've been perfect, if only the tailoring was taken more seriously. Shouldn't have worried! I took a huge gamble a month ago and dropped off three dresses with Angie, who I had never used before. One was a bridesmaid dress for this upcoming weekend. Unfortunately I didn't have time to pick up the dress to make sure everything fit, and had my parents pick it up for me instead. I just tried the dress on right now, and it fits like a glove. I have to say, I've been freaking out because three other bridesmaids have had huge tailor related dress mishaps. Thankfully, Angie is a great tailor and all of my dresses fit true to the measurements she took on the first fitting! Just a note, the tailoring is pretty expensive. I had the best experience possible with Angie Lu tailors for my wedding gown. Lina and her staff could not have been more friendly, welcoming and warm throughout my experience. My dress needed a fair bit of work, but Lina truly did the most exceptional job. She helped us make decisions throughout the process as well - suggesting what would look good, how much we should hem, etc. and her advice was 100% spot on. Her prices are extremely reasonable for the exceptional service, and she doesn't ever make you feel rushed the way some tailors can. Overpriced for poor quality I brought in a very basic bridesmaid dress to be taken in - no beading or lace. I think i ended up being about $60. Other bridesmaids had the same work done elsewhere for about $20. Additionally, it was still too big and she removed the hanger straps for no apparent reason. My husband brought his suit jacket there around the same time. The sleeves were cut way too short, ruining the jacket. He was also charged more than double what other tailors would cost. The location was close to us so we were hoping it would work out but I would never recommend this place. read more

Lina, her staff and shop are very nice however, I paid $600 for a hem to a simple chiffon skirt and cups to be sewn in to my wedding gown. Three fittings and four months later, my dress was ready three days before my wedding and was still too long. Lesson being...1. Unfortunately I am writing a negative review. Lena came highly recommended from the bridal salon I bought my daughter's wedding dress from. Our first visit was beyond amazing. The cost was rather high however she assured us that the gown would be perfect when it left her shop. Six visits! Many tears from the bride. Lena actually was rather insistent that nothing more could be done to the gown that was now puckering at the bust line. What should have been a wonderful, once in a lifetime,Cinderella like experience turned into a nightmare. As my daughter so eloquently put it - Lena is a BULLY. Ultimately the gown was finally tailored to her figure and she looked spectacular. Yes Lena, something could be done if only you put your mind to it. All she had to do was try! Hours away from my workplace and my daughters were needlessly taken - if only Lena listened to her brides and stayed off her cell phone. Another bride, whose appointment was after my daughters, approached us in the local coffee shop. She lived in Providence RI and traveled to CT to purchase her gown in the same lovely shop we did. Because she was referred to Angie Lu she took her gown there to be tailored. Her experience was similar to my daughters. She felt bullied and was emotionally exhausted from what should have been a once in a lifetime experience. Five appointments traveling from Providence and all she wanted to do was pick up her gown and go home! Yes, I did inform the Madison bridal salon that I purchased the gown from of this terrible experience. I also relayed Lena's last comment that she would never tailor this gown again even if she was paid $12,000 - AND in the end she felt that she made no money on the work she did! I took my very delicate all-lace wedding dress that I had purchased from Everthine to Angie Lu and she did a STELLAR job! The alterations were fabulous and the dress fit me like a glove. She even saved the day when I had a near-meltdown... my dress is SUPER formfitting and I really wanted to wear Spanx with it so that absolutely nothing showed. Well... every kind of Spanx or undergarment showed some sort of line through the delicate lace. So she had the very creative idea of using what I was going to wear as a headpiece as a belt with a ribbon and it masked the line! Not only did she solve that issue, but I got so many compliments on the dress and its beautiful belt ;)! PLUS, she didn't charge me any extra (her prices are completely reasonable and in line with other wedding dress tailoring!). Her and her staff (shoutout to Sandra, who even helped me get into my dress once when no one else could accompany me to an appointment) are so sweet and helpful (even giving us suggestions for lunch!). The space itself is beautiful--there's a big bridal salon-type of dressing room with mirrors at every angle in the back, and they're making even more room, specifically for bridal appointments! It's also located on the main street of Madison, CT, which is the cutest little town (think: Stars Hollow), so you will never mind going to an appointment there. Thank you guys again! Although this place is a little pricey, it is very high quality. It cost me $90 to alter my dress but they shortened the length and took in around the chest and it looks amazing now. Before I didn't think id look good in in but now it fits like a glove. They also had it ready in days which was helpful since I only had about a week. Lastly it is quality work and does not look altered at all. The stitching is neat and even and the sides around the chest look untouched. I will always come back here and am willing to pay a little more for the quality work. read more

I had my wedding dress altered here for my wedding in Italy. The dress needed to be taken in and the shoulders taken up. They charged $600.00 for the alteration. A few days before the trip I went to try on dress for final time, and decided shoulders were still a little loose, no problem she said come back tomorrow. Since the alteration was so small I picked up the dress and left for Italy. The night before the wedding I hung the dress in the bathroom to steam out wrinkles only to find that they has sewn one strap backwards ( inside out ) There was no way I could wear it. I resorted to cutting and pinning! Would never return would never recommend! Stay away! read more

I just had a mother of the bride dress altered at Angie Lu Tailors. They did a wonderful job. When I tried it on after the alterations were finished, I thought I was happy with the fit. I tried it on once again at home and thought I wanted an adjustment to the bust line. I took it back the next day, and left it for the small alteration. It is now perfect!! There was no charge for the extra adjustment, which made me even more appreciative. All those I dealt with at this business were welcoming and extremely competent. Angie Lu Tailor's was the absolute BEST experience I have ever had with a tailor in my life. She is a consummate professional and goes far above and beyond what you ever hope to find in a tailor. After a few alterations, we realized there was a manufacturer's error with the dress. She not only accompanied me to the store where I purchased the dress but then did alterations on my new dress at no extra charge-even when the fault wasn't hers. Very expensive. They should tell you what the cost will be before alteration then just assuming they can charge$$$$$ for alterations. I checked with few other places and they were outraged what we got charged. This is taking advantage. People work hard for their money and shouldn't be over charged. Had pants altered, not made from scratch. He could have bought new ones for what he was charged. It's a real shame. This was a VERY expensive lesson. Although Angie Lu's customer service and friendliness were top notch unfortunately, their workmanship is not. I had my beaded wedding gown hemmed there for a lot of money. Then on my wedding day, the hem fell apart. I was literally tripping on pieces of string that's started to fray. Then the beads started to fall off because everything was coming undone. I totally get a few beads falling off throughout the night but this was the hem on the bottom, it was a disaster. My wedding coordinator literally had to hot glue the bottom hem of my entire dress so that it would stay in place. Luckily I did not let this ruin my day but it was certainly disappointing. read more

I had problems with a wedding dress and jacket for my son's wedding that needed altering. When I went to pick up the jacket, there was a lump on the shoulder. After leaving it to be fixed, I picked it up to find it in the same state. I took it to another tailor who said she could not fix it because there was not enough fabric left. I felt that the owner just wanted me to say everything was fine with the alterations, but later when I called to complain, she agreed to halve the rate that was charged. I took my wedding gown to Angie Lu and she did a phenomenal job. I should say, I took my wedding gown, and lace to Angie Lu -- I liked the shape of one dress, but the lace of another, so I ordered the dress from one designer and the lace from another. I asked Angie Lu to remove the existing lace and replace it with another, and in doing so, change the shape of the back of the dress. The result was EXACTLY the dress I wanted. I came in for fittings during the weekdays since I went by her shop on the way to and from work, and they were always very upbeat and accommodating. Her new store is top-notch. Everything is crisp and clean. I cannot say enough about how warm and welcoming the whole crew is at AngieLu's. I hadn't found a tailor in the area prior to getting my wedding gown altered, and I'm sure I'll take other items to her as well. read more

SOOOOO glad I found this place last minute!! Was visiting Connecticut for a wedding I was in. When I picked up my bridesmaids dress (last minute of course) from the tailor from my home town it was basically butchered. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to take it as it was. This place has now ruined 3 of my dresses, including my high school graduation dress, in the past 5 years. I would never recommend this place to anyone. The dresses were all taken in WAY too much and I could barely walk in them. My graduation dress also fit terribly at the top and all I could think about all day was how it was falling down every time I took a step, even when accepting my diploma. I should never have gone back there for the dress I am wearing to the EMMYS and that job was the third and final straw. Will never go back there. read more

When I took my vintage wedding dress to Angie Lu to be altered I figured for $600 I would be getting perfect alterations. After all, that price was just to clean, press, add pockets, bring in the bust, and take out the waist. Needless to say I was less than impressed. The majority of the problems were in the bust, which I was assured would look fine after pressing. When I picked the dress up it looked as though it had been crumpled in a ball on the floor for weeks. It was two weeks before my wedding this place is a 45 minute drive from me, and since I was less than impressed with the end result I took the dress elsewhere to be pressed. When I addressed the problem with the owner and asked for a partial refund she told me since I did not bring the dress back to her, there was nothing she was going to do. In fact, I don't think she heard a word I said since she barely gave me a chance to talk. I wish I went with my gut and realized we were being ripped off when we first got the $600 quote. read more
