Menya Ramen House caught my eye with pics of its clear broth, so i paid a visit for a quick lunch on a Sunday. It's a small restaurant located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. For lunch, I tried the shoyu ramen with a soft boiled egg and side of spicy oil. The broth was light and flavorful. The chashu was very tender and seared nicely. The shoyu came with straight noodles instead of wavy, but it was still good. The bowl had menma, as well as red and green onions. I enjoyed the bowl so much, we went back for dinner the same day. For dinner, I tried the shio ramen, which was basically the same thing, but with a sea salt tare instead of soy sauce. I also got wavy noodles this time and I definitely prefer the wavy noodles. Once again, it came with red and green onion, which i think is a bit overpowering. I would get just green onion next time. The family/couple sets seem to be a great deal. I've been to Menya a number of times and they are consistently high quality, fast, and a good value. My mouth is literally watering as I write at 5a. In fact, if they were open now I might grab some breakfast. They are located outside of the main downtown in the plaza with Greenway. That's a good thing as downtown can be a logistical nightmare to park and grab a quick bite. Menya has a small, comfortable seating area. The menu is simple with a few delicious broth bases and a wider variety of noodle, protein or veggie ingredients. Service is quick and friendly, and you'll wonder how you got that bowl full of goodness in your tummy so quickly! read more

Very good ramen spot. I was surprised about how much protein was in my ramen. Typically it's thinly sliced, but not here! This spot is not that big, so during busy times you might find yourself waiting to be seated. I would definitely come back for more. read more

Came here for lunch with my husband on a Saturday and got seated right away. The restaurant is small with only a few tables, and the atmosphere is laid back and very casual, but the food is excellent. We got the Couple Set, where you pay $50 and get to pick three appetizers to share, and two entrees. It was very reasonable. We ordered the edamame, which had a unique seaweed seasoning on it that was very good, the kimchi gyoza that also had pork and was delicious, and the Chicken Karaage, (fried boneless chicken). For the entree, I had the Spicy Miso Tonkotsu which had pork and my husband had the Tonkotsu- we both liked our dishes very much. Food: 8/10 For the spicy miso broth, was really spicy and I think they really use a lot of chili oil for the spicy Ramen option, but the broth was pretty rich, and the chashu was well cooked. They have enough veggies and toppings, even without adding extra, but it's only one piece of Chashu. The karage and gyoza was also really nice appetizers had a great crunch to both of them and they fry it immediately after you order it. It's really hard to find a good ramen in Bergen County --- for the most part, you have to take a drive down to Edgewater or Fort Lee to find an authentic bowl of ramen. Menya Ramen is an unassuming ramen shop in Ridgewood, and judging by the ratings both on Yelp & Google, I was intrigued because many reviewers stated their ramen was top-tier. The inside probably can fit 25-30pp total, it's not that big. The kitchen is open so you can see the chefs moving around and doing what they do best. There was one server; she was quiet, but very proficient at her duties as server. For the food: I got the lunch kit ($17), which included a choice of any of there ramens (excluding, I believe the Spicy Kaisen), plus 4 fried gyoza. My lunch kit included the Spicy Miso Tonkatsu Ramen (added an egg for $2) + 4 kimchi gyoza, and and order of the Fried Karaage ($8). First the Karaage: Delicious off the bat; plump, savory, seasoned pieces of popcorn chicken, topped with a seaweed sprinkle garnish + kewpie mayo. Was it the best karaage? No, but it was damn good karaage. Second, the lunch kit: The ramen, off the bat, looked pretty decent. It looked put together, cohesive, and the broth looked rich. All the flavors were amazing....my only complaint? The noodles, for me, were not the right consistency. They were too short, a bit too undercooked; I was looking for those long, chewy noodles...these weren't it. Besides the underwhelming noods - which were still good - , everything else was absolutely DELICIOUS. I would definitely come back again, and maybe if they're open to some of my criticism: possibly explore different ramen noodles for the best consistency. 4/5 read more

I didn't have much expectations when going to Menya Ramen but came out wanting to return once I left. We had the honey butter wings shishito pepper, gyoza and takoyaki as apps. They were very tasty. We also ordered from the couples menu which is very unique. This allows the couple to order their own main and each an app. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen which is served with garlic oil. It was amazing, how amazing? I ordered extra broth. It was goooiod. My wife got the spicy kaisen, she enjoyed it but don't think as much as I enjoyed my tonkotsu. Perfect meal for a cold wintery night, or a savory yummy treat any day of the year. The Spirit Lifter Ramen bowl was true to its name. The vegan miso broth was flavorful. You can pick between spicy levels from 1 to 3. I asked for 2, but this resulted in a rather mild spicing. So, if you like a bit of a kick like me, you should ask for level 3. The owner was very welcoming and friendly. The dishes came out all together even though we were a party of 6. The ambience is not that of a tablecloth restaurant, but modern, clean, and minimalistic. It made for a pleasant dining experience. There are a few tables and they all filled up while we were there. I suspect it won't take to long for them to outgrow their breeches. Ramen is terrific here. I'm spoiled living in NJ and working in NYC. So I've had great Ramen. This is the real deal without having to drive to palisades park or Fort Lee. Noodles are perfection. They get them from Sun. Broth is layered and so rich. Pork is done perfectly with the finishing of the blow torch. Spice is perfect. Your nose will be slightly running when you're done. The vegetables are added at the end so they remain so fresh and crunchy. I love the chefs understanding of why that important. Great people. Can't recommend enough as there is no good Ramen in the area. I get the spicy miso tonkatsu here. Again it's perfect you won't be disappointed. Our whole family (especially our kids) really love that we have a ramen specialty shop in Ridgewood downtown, and really enjoyed the food and experience. The food was authentic and great, we ordered various ramen dishes as a family - Tonkatsu, Shoyu, Truffle Shio and Spicy Kaisen - and all were great in their own ways, with each of our family member preferring different ones. Staff is friendly and helpful too. The Takoyaki (octopus puff balls) was surprisingly really good as well, which wasn't expected at a ramen shop, which I would order again also. We ordered takeout from Menya and to start, the turnaround was so quick!! For an order for 6 people, it was ready in 15 min. The food was very flavorful and offerings for the family and couple sets was more than enough food, and well worth it too! We'll also note that the Kaisen had a decent amount of seafood in proportion to the rest of the ingredients. They were very nice upon pick up and also gave us an extra dessert (we were so excited that they offered mochi from Mochidoki in NYC)! I highly recommend and will definitely return. read more

Very very good ramen! 1. Broth - not too salty, perfectly balanced and not too much oil. Their spicy broths are not over top hot, just right and really full of flavor. 2. Spicy Kaisen Ramen- excellent! One of the best seafood ramens I've had, and I've had many. It's definitely the only place I've been that's featured fresh whole scallops. One jumbo shrimp, deelish! A true delight! 3. Noodles - egg with excellent firmness, really would love to know how they're made. 4. Vegetables - overall good balance... they love red onion, maybe a bit too much but was a nice change up. Personally I'd prefer scallion. The marinated shitakes are in one word - phenomenal. 5. Chashu Pork - without a doubt the best you can find in this area of Ridgewood. Really nice hard sear, tender, and not too fatty. Get yourself an extra slice !
